Gaurdians Of the Millenium : Into the Fire:
Chapter 4: Rescued from Fears

1. Rei = Raye. Ami = Amy... I'm not sure now
as I send this which one I used, and once
this is in a text file I can't spell check
or find/replace to correct it. You know
who I mean. Enjoy!

Zoicite intercepted Jaedite as he passed by
the room Endymion and Malachite were sharing.
Since Endymion was pretending to be a mere
High General, rather than a Prince, he'd been
put in a room exactly like the rest of them.
"Hey Jed, Lord "Darrien" needs your advice
about his attire for this evening's event."
Jaedite rolled his eyes. "I'm no fashion
consultant...he's on his own, excuse me."
"Where are you off to in such a hurry? Now,
Nephrite I understand is meeting the Princess
Jupiter...perchance you are to meet a lady
as well?" Zoicite inquired nosily, trailing
after Jaedite.
"Mind your own business for once...its
bad enough I'm sharing a room with you
right now--I don't need to share my
entire personal life either." Jaedite
said in a low growl.
"You even sound like Nephrite now." Zoicite
laughed back. "You aren't usually in such
a hurry...You might as well tell me.
I'll find out eventually you know.
I have my sources...."
"I'm sure you do." He replied continuing
down the hall.
Zoicite's laughter rang out again, as he turned the
corner. He could still hear him
say "Oh,and thank you for
distracting the Lady Rei today--Otherwise
I should have been deprvied of the most interesting
chess match with Lady Mercury..." Zoicite's laughter
still rang in his ears, louder than the bell clear
sounds of the musicians who played to the waltzing
crowd.
Rudely pushing through the crowd, Jaedite entered
the room, scanning for the waterfall of black
hair that would mark his target...he didn't see her.
He glanced at Queen Serenity--shocked to see none
other than Queen Beryl seated with her. He hadn't
known Beryl was going to be here...no wonder
Endymion was fussing about what to wear. That thought
made Jaedite smile...at least he wouldn't be the only
one in a bad mood...Usually he and Endymion worked
such balls together--pointing out the prettiest
women and betting each other who would snatch
the ladies' affections. Tonight, Jaedite didn't
want to play that game. He only wanted to
see *her*...but he'd probably blown his
chance...suddenly he felt someone bump his elbow.
"Do you mind?" He said annoyed, then sharply
drew in his breath as he realized who had touched
him. "Lady Rei!" He bowed slightly...as their
eyes met. "Forgive me, I didn't
see you." He couldn't think--she was there..
"Lord Jaedite...I'll forgive you for not
looking where you were going...but not for
breaking your word. You never did
dance with me that night on Mars." She said.
"I promised that?" He asked. "I don't think
your father or your cousin would have approved."
"Yes...but neither of them is here *now*" She
observed dryly.
"No...I don't suppose they are..." He smiled.
"And, it would be most inappropriate for
someone like Lord Darrien to intefere should
you agree to dance with me..."
"Exactly." Her smile was wider now, as she
placed her hand on his arm.
"Then, if you will so honor me..." He led
her onto the floor. He felt as if
he were holding a cloud, so gracefully
did she turn through the steps of the
dances. The music spun round them, gently
folding them in its rhythym. The rest
of the crowd faded away, and all they
felt were each other.

Present Day
*********************
The second boat was nearing the first.
"Ok, Girlie, make a sound and your friend dies.
You're gonna come with us" The words
were not spoken--yet, but Rei heard them.
The sun had set, and Rei who had been irritaded,
directing Chad on the best way to row to shore
quickly and stop the circles in which they spun.
He was standing up, leaning over the boat to see
if he could see the boat house.
When she'd felt that premonition of danger, scant
seconds before the other boat approached, she knew that her best chance of
fighting was if Chad didn't see what she did. With the oar, she gave
him one strong push, and he fell into the pond. Internally she thought
"Sorry." She wanted him out of harms' way.
The next second she heard the words spoken. "Ok, Girlie, make a sound
and your friend dies. You're gonna come with us" The voice
was directly behind her. She prayed that Chad, splashing away
on the other side of the boat, would have the sense to do nothing.
Of course not. "Rei? What's going on up there--I can't swim!"
He cried out.
"You won't need to." The other figure said, as the first grabbed Rei and
pulled her into their motor boat. He laid out a hand as if to help
Chad out. Rei had another premintion--he was going to
shoot Chad! Without thinking, she shrugged off the man holding her
and jumped,so that she kicked the thug in the head. He fell over, into
the water, his foot catching Chad in the head. Before Chad could
sink, Rei grabbed his unconsious form and hauled it into the boat.
She had scarcely done that when the big thug recovered from her
scrambling away, and picked her up, throwing her over his shoulder.
She tried to kick at his Solar Plexus, but unfortunately he was
holding her in just the right way so that her feet couldn't move.
It was times like this, she wished she were as strong physically
as Jupiter. Then it occured to her, she probably would be
stronger if she transformed. In fact, the power of it
would probably knock this oaf right out of the boat.
But then, he'd know who she was...and she couldn't do that.
The other assailant climbed into the row boat. "You'll pay
for that trouble, bit--" He swore as the boat rocked, nearly knocking him
out
again... "And then your rich Daddy will pay for you!" He smiled a lecherous
grin.
"Ssay goodbye to your fiancŽ!" He turned to focus the
gun on Chad's prone body.
Helpless, Rei watched from the motor boat--her mouth now covered by the
thick
hand of the man who held her helpless against him, having
shifted her from his back just so she could watch the execution.
How could this happen? In the middle of this pond? She had
to risk the transformation! She couldn't let Chad die! She struggled
to get her mouth free long enough to say the three words--"Mars Star Power"
that would save them both.
She didnt' have to...out of nowhere, a man *appeared* and hovered right
above the man with the gun. With a kick, he pushed the man back
into the water. The gun clattered onto the floor of the boat.
Rei's eyes widened as she recognized her saviour---Jaedite.
His uniform was similar to the one he'd worn while fighting
her...but different..it tugged at her memory ...She knew it was from
the time in the Silver Millenium...
"Let the Lady go." Jaedite said confidently.
"Duh, I dont' know how you did that flyin trick Man,
but I aint lettin her go." He said...
"My friend, you can hardly steer while holding her--and you
can't let her go...she'll only fight you."
"Not if I knock her out!" His hand came down hard on Rei's
head. Jaedite's eyebrows rose, the only outward sign
of the shock he felt. He couldn't lose
his control, or let his enemy know he'd thrown him of
balance.
Rei felt the blow, but had anticpated it. Expelling
her breath, she tensed her muscles and absorbed the impact.
It hurt more than it would have had he hit muscle tissue,
but still didn't do a thing to her conciousness.
She winked at Jaedite, and slumped down. She hoped
he'd realize she was ok, and was biding her time
to attack.
"You just stay away or I'll kill you." The thug
yelled. Beads of sweat trickled down his face,
carrying the stale odor of his body uncomfortably
near to Rei. Please, she thought, Jaedite
do something to move him away from me before
I really *do* pass out.
"Try it." Jaedite said holding the gaze
of the thug. "You're no match for me."
The thug lowered his eyes. "How's about I kill her
then?"
Jaedite hovered closer, his eyebrows
lowered as he smiled menancingly.
"Why? Afraid to take me on??" He said
cockily.
His ears trained by battle heard the sound of the other thief
reentering the boat, picking up the strange metallic object.
Jaedite didn't know what it was, but he knew it must
be a weapon. Some strange memory told him that much.
"He'll shoot" Rei gasped, watching the scene through
half closed eyes.
Jaedite didn't understand the warning--but trained by battle, he
instinctually teleported to hover directly *behind* the smaller
attacker. Enemies never expected that. A quick blow
with his sword's hilt knocked the man down--but not before
the shot rang out--going through the space where Jaedite had been
a split second before. It travelled on, lodging itself in the
arm of the first thug. Rei quickly hit him in a specific place...
"Duh, the boss ain't gonna like this!" He passed out.
"Lady Rei are you all right?" Jaedite asked, grabbing
her arms and looking searchingly into her eyes.
"What--how--" Rei said in shock.. "You were flying!"
"Yes...among other things, My Lady." He smiled. "I've done it before...
Part of being a Warrior General...." He started
to lean in and kiss her forehead. "I'm glad
you are safe..."
"Well, reverse your transformation..-we have to get to the police."
She abrudtly shrugged off his embrace, and avoided
his kiss.
He nodded. The word was unfamilar...but he knew
she meant help....and that he needed to power down.....
his ability to understand her was part of the reason he'd
sworn to protect her always...
He concentrated. Suddenly everything grew more familiar...
especially the expression in Rei's dark eyes.
Police..yes, he knew what that was. His thoughts of a moment
before, however, didn't make sense. He'd been
about to kiss her on top of that....what was he thinking?
"How did you do this?" She asked. "This transformation?"
The only sign that she'd conciously avoided his kiss lay
in the dark rose blush on her cheek. Her voice was cool
and business like.
"I don't know--I just knew you were in trouble...and
I ...transformed...Dont look at me like that. I didn't know
I could do this..or even what it is...." Now that the danger was
over...he felt his head careen inside out. "My head hurts" he said.
He placed both his hands on his head, and massaged his temples.
He'd felt like a different person for a minute there...
"You're lucky that's all that hurts...with a stunt like that! We'll
talk about it later." She said.
"Yeah, but that was so cool! Rei! Did you see me?" He said amazed
at what he'd done. "I was awesome!"
She didn't seemed thrilled or awed now that her initial shock
wore off. "I thought you might eventually display
such talents...I told you...we'll talk later."
"But have you ever seen anything like it--it's like the
powers of the women that rescued me, those Sailors."
"Sailor Scouts. Not "sailors"....AND LET'S NOT TALK ABOUT IT NOW." she
said. She hopped in the row boat with Chad's prone
form. "I'll make up a story to tell
him...but it would be best if you motored the thugs ashore. We'll
tell the police they attacked you..no, better keep
you out of it." She paused thinking.
"I don't want to explain to the police how they
got injured...or have them explain
that...I wonder what Sailor V did in these
situations..."
She sighed. "I suppose we'd just better call the
police. Go home Jed...it'll
be easier to explain without you here."
A few hours later, Chad and Rei left the police station.
"You did end up pushing me into the
lake as I feared Rei!"he laughed.
Only he could be amused by that, Rei thought. "Sorry."
"No I understand--wow, I can't believe we got attacked
like that. I thought that park so safe...I'll be sure not
to take Sarah there....not unless you're there to protect us!"
He laughed."I always thought no body
in his right mind would mess with you!"
Rei, embarrased, excused herself " You go on home...I
need a drink of water." She turned back to the Police Station.
Surely there was a water fountain somewhere in the
dingy building. Standing by a water cooler,
she punched a shiny balloon that was hanging in the hall
of the station, to celebrate the year of "no strange monsters." She
tried to focus her mind....she had no idea how long she stayed like that.
After awhile, she opened her eyes and looked around. A poster
hung on the wall "The myth of Sailor-V: how to deal with vigilantes who
think
they're superheroes by Wolf Malder, formerly of the United States FBI"
Rei didn't read any more, her anger cooled, she turned around to leave.
A man in a suit was right behind her. "Well, Miss,
you sure are lucky. Those are hired
guns, with a history of crime a yard long...They still
haven't explained why they
tried to abduct you. They won't talk about who hired them...
but eventually, they'll talk."
"What have they said?"
"Just some weird story about a flying guy attacking
them!" The man said wryly, a hint
of amusement dancing in his green eyes. "That's
one for the Myth lecture.."
"I suppose." Rei said, not humourously.
"But Miss,uh, Hino is it? You never told us exactly how you stopped
them? Their version is very far fetched...
""They had maybe a few too many blows to the head....
IÔve already given my statement." She said tersely.
The man nodded...His green eyes focussed sharply on hers.
"Yes....you did. " he said slowly. "They're just a
couple of loose ends."
"Loose ends?."
"Your friend Chad--I can't pronounce that last name,
and your stories aren't exactly ...complementary...He seems to think
he heard three voices--three *male* voices. "
"He was unconsious." Rei replied dismissively. "He saw no
one else. He also hit his head pretty hard. Nothing
strange about this."
"Maybe. I thought it was strange that you apparently
were fairly uninjured, despite
the criminal's having a gun....That's pretty
strange." He said evenly.
"Oh really? "Rei retorted. She made as if to pass, but the
man wouldn't let her. "I'm a 5th degree black belt in Karate. You
can ask at my Dojo if you don't believe me."
" Really....Even still, a couple of things don't line up.
Number one: Everyone except you alludes to
another man--either by sight or by voice."
She shrugged, flicking her dark hair "So what?"
"Number two: If you were the only one concious, how did you *get* to shore?
Rowing one boat, steering another, while handling three unconsious men
would be a bit much...even for a black belt like you. And
you weren't wet--so you didn't swim back to get first one boat then the
other."
Rei frowned...this man was sharper than the usual officers who just
wanted to get home and get a donought at work. "Why do you care?
We're the victims here! You should be happy the criminals were stopped
.....I don't understand...."
"I don't understand either....I just don't understand how you
took out, by yourself, two longstanding career criminals... "
"I was lucky...it doesn't matter how. Who are you to ask anyway?"
"I'm Wolf Malder...and I believe you may be protecting another of those
deluded Super hero-vigilantes."
Suddenly the name of her questioner rang a bell.
"You're the lecturer!" She gasped, eyes widening in
surprise.
"Yes...I am. Now tell me, am I right? "
"If you are from America, you have no authority here. Leave me alone."
"In a minute..Miss Hino, I need your cooperation...
I've been brought all the way from America,as a consultant, to help your
police force deal with the weird disturbances that have occured here.
In particular to deal with these "superhero" sightings...."
"Good for you. I think its a waste of time to track down
superheroes--you should be thankful they exist."
"I disagree...Let me explain: These vigilantes disrupt the
peace...but a lot of victims feel grateful, and try to protect them.
They break the law, destroy property--but they are just ordinary
humans...and not above the law."
"I'm not protecting anyone, but what's wrong
with what they do?" She asked.
"You have to understand Miss Hino--these people
are loose cannons. The police
are supposed to protect, not some silly girl in
a short dress playing cop, with
expensive and explosive toys. If that's who helped you--we need to know.
We need to be able to stop these people." His passion made his voice
go up a pitch, so he ended on a squeaky high note. "And if they
really are "super" heroes, we need to understand how that's possible."
"I'm cooperating fully,Mr. Malder." She said.
"It's late, and I need to go home. May I leave now?"
He sighed. "If you care to add anything to your story, Miss Hino,
here's my card." In dark letters, the name spelled out "Officer
Wolf Malder, Federal Bureau of Investigations" In pen, he'd crossed
out the FBI part, and added the name of his Japanese hotel.
Absentmindedly, she crumbled the card in her pocket...of all
the people to ask, Rei thought it was ironic she was the
one he grilled....Bet he'd like
to know he was staring at SailorMars...The thought
made her smile wryly as she walked off.
She had barely exited the building when she felt someone
tug her arm. She looked up and saw Jed. He was leaning
against a lamp post, arms folded, head slightly bowed
in concentration. Something about his posture
conveyed a panther like readyness to attack,
rather than leisure. A black leather jacket
and jeans had replaced the shrine robes she'd
grown used to seeing on him. He looked
dangerous in a rather appealing way. SHe suppressed
that thought, wondering where it had come
from. She must be tired.
He looked up as she approached,
relief spreading across his face pushing
aside the tenseness.
"Hey there you are...I was worried." He said. "Chad said he'd
left you here a while ago." He took her hands
and peered into her eyes. "Are you sure you're all
right? You've had quite a day."
"Did he call me?" She asked, ignoring his question.
Her pulse quickened a little at the feel of
his hands on her. She told herself that it
was just her thoughts of Chad, as she
tugged her hands away.
"No, I called him...he's shaken up by it all. If you
wanted to make an impression Rei, you certainly did."Jed
motioned for her to follow. "I didn't think
it would be a good idea for you to walk home
alone after what happened."
"You think I'd be safer with you?"She snapped.
Jed's face went still and devoid of emotion.
He'd had enough. He'd done nothing to
deserve this treatment from her, and he
wouldn't take it.
"Fine walk home alone." He said coldly.
"Wait..."She said, regretting her sharp tone. "I don't want to
be alone." he continued walking. "I want to walk home with you."
He smiled, but adopted a serious expression
as he turned and gave her a half bow.
"Would a motorcycle
ride do?" He gestured to an old worn out bike.
"Where'd you get *that*?" she asked, surprised.
"Grandpa...It's his old bike..he said if I could
fix it, then I could have it ...as
long as I let him use it."
Rei laughed picturing her grandfather poping
a wheelie on the bike. She'd have to warn him
not to use the bike when she got back.
She hung on tight to Jed,as they sped through the night.
Neither noticed the tall, lanky
suited figure of Malder observing their conversation.
The next day:
"So that's what happened last night...." Rei sighed, as she yawned,
Tthey entered the airport diner for a snack.
They had half an hour before Ami's and Mina's flight
to England.
They chose a long booth, and grabbed the menus. "I've asked him not
to transform again, and I think he will listen to me. I'm not sure
what it means."
"You know, Darrien mentioned he felt something strange last night--
but he didn't know what it was. I guess that explains it." Serena said.
"You had quite an adventure! It's so romantic how Jaedite saved you!"
"Are you insane, Meatball Head! Romantic!?" Rei yelled....."I was trying to
spend
time with Chad, and then Jaedite's there floating in space, attacking
those thugs....what if someone had seen him?"
"At least you didn't have to transform." Ami said reasonably, while Serena
merely stuck her tongue out at Rei..proving old habits die hard, . "And he
did save you."
"I could have handled it. All he did is create trouble....
As it is this Malder is asking questions
...what if the Scouts are needed again? What if the police try and arrest
us?
What if someone finds out who we are... " Rei snapped out.
"Cool your Jets Rei!" Lita said. "First: Jaedite
only transformed once to help
you...Second: The police'll never catch us. Third:
I dont think Jaedite's going to run
amok or anything. Fourth: I've seen that Malder guy on TV,
and he's *majorly* cute...."
That last point earned Lita a patented Rei scowl as well.
"I just meant I wouldn't mind him asking me a few questions" Lita
said under her breath.
Mina nodded in agreement, but added "Still, all's swell that ends swell.
So stop asking "what if"--and just enjoy our lunch.
It'll be a few weeks before we can hang out again...."
Everyone nodded and looked at their menus,
except Rei who just stared out the window, obviously troubled.
Noticing this Mina looked at Rei with her big innocent stare
she said "You know, you shouldn't distrust Jed so
much....give him a chance. A lifetime ago, you trusted him with your
heart..."
"And he betrayed it....Stop it, all of you." Rei asked the others
"Stop what?" Mina asked, as she eyed the milk shake on the Menu.
"Stop thinking I should fall back in love with Jaedite...
Just like the Silver Millenium came back, as if nothing ever happened.
....just as easily as Serena and Darrien" Rei said accusingly.
"I wouldn't say it was *easy* for us-" Serena said...unusually serious
She paused, her eyes clear and bright. "Darrien and I had to learn to love
the people we've become in this life. The moon princess is me, but so is
Serena..."
Serena nodded for emphasiss..."I don't think you have to be in love with
Jed...especially with Chad on your mind."
"Yeah...Chad's great...but Jed..." Lita's eyes
fogged over.. "He's really cute, those blue eyes, that baby
smooth skin, that low voice... ..." She blushed. "He sort
"your old boyfriend" They said in unison.
Rei rolled her eyes, ignoring Lita.
"Serena, you might not feel that way...but its different
for you. I'm trying to point out something. Lita, if you saw Neflite
again
--and we cured him, what would you do--or Zoicite, Ami, or Malachite--? "
"I ....don't know." Mina said. "I can't hate him..even though we don't
know what happened. We forgave Darrien when he was brainwashed, and the
people turned into Negamonsters...We even forgave Galaxia...
just because people do evil things doesn't
mean they *are* evil or beyond investing."
"Beyond what?"
"She meant redemption ... I think." Ami said.
"Does that mean saved?" Serena asked.
Ami shook her head. "Rei, I would forgive him.
I just would not be in love with him." Ami continued "As
Serena said, we are not quite the same people that
we were--so I understand you don't feel anything for Jed.
I don't see why the past has to control the present."
Lita took a breath, eyebrows lowering in concentration.
"I agree. At first, when we remembered everything about
the destruction of the Silver Millenium, I was angry at
being betrayed...but then...." Lita's voice softened "If Neflite
were the only one I could love-- like Darrien is for Serena, then,
I'd live my whole life without love. And if I really
loved him, I'd forgive him.....eventually. I'd probably
still be angry for awhile though, if I got a second chance."
"As for Jed, Rei, I'd say you should
listen to your heart---but let it open first."
Serena smiled. "Enough of that--I"m ready to order.
Lessseee, I want a tripple cheeseburger, and
onion rings,..oooh and cheesefries. What about you guys?"
"Hey it's a long flight...I'll have the same" Mina said.
"And a milkshake..."

"Every second I spend with him is not enough!" Princess
Serena said. "What am I to do? I must see him again!
Rei, you must help me. I shall be miserable if you don't!."
"Are you CRAZY." Princess Rei yelled, before she
could stop herself. "Weren't you listening when I told
you there is a WAR on Earth?!"
"Don't you want to see Jaedite, your fiancŽ then?
We could both go... War or no War!"
"I do want to see him, but I won't...I'll wait." Rei said.
"Besides, your situation is different. Once was enough,
but it can't continue."
" Oh yeah? Why can't I be with my Endymion?"
The Moon Princess retorted, folding her arms
across her chest.
"Because Moon brain, He's engaged...and not to
you. He's from Earth. His FiancŽ's kingdom
is under attack! That alone is
enough of a problem." Rei disrespectfully
shot back. Princess Lita frowned,
stepping forward. "Rei, let up. But she's right
Serena. Earth means trouble right now."
"Oh! What about Neflite, don't you want to see him?
You've got to help!?"She pouted..."If you won't help me--
I'll go by myself!"
"DON"T YOU DARE!" Rei stormed "IF you do, you'll prove
yourself more of an idiot than I thought!" Her
mind filled with visions of Serena being killed
by ignorant earth peasants, while Rei and the others
serached frantically for her.
"But I love him!" Serena said. "You're my friends,
how can you not support me? Have you no faith in
love?" She began to wail loudly. "I want to see my
Endymion!"
"I've given you the advice that duty and honor demand...
but as the Princess you can choose to follow it or not.. ."
Rei said. Her voice softened. "I don't want you to be
miserable, Princess....don't make everyone miserable as well."
Serena's eyes grew large, her voice grew
quiet. "Rei, my mother has said she will put up
a magical shield tonight.....if I do not see
him tonight it'll be too late..."
Rei frowned... "What do you mean?"
"Even if she does, I'm sure this time it is
a temporary, precautionary measure... She'll
take the shield down eventually.." Ami interjected,
over her book. She wasn't really following
the conversation--but the bit about the shield
caught her attention. "She won't return to the
former Shielded policy, I'm sure. "
Lita nodded. "Sure Serena...you just need to be patient."
Mina swept in hurridly. "Artemis just
said that Earth Generals
Malachite and Zoicite
transported here unexpectedly..." She
exclaimed... "Does anyone want
to go greet them?"
Lita's face fell, "Are you sure it was
just those *two*?"
Ami's eyes glazed a bit, as her book
fell to the ground unnoticed.
Tears welled up in Serena's eyes. "I...don't know..
I just have this feeling...it has to
be tonight...Rei, you know why." She pleaded
Rei frowned. How had Serena known of
the dreams and dark visions she'd seen the
last few nights? She hadn't told anyone.
"I can't stand your whining anymore
moon-brain. So I can get some peace
I'll help you. If the Shield is to
go up, Queen Serenity will have to allow me
to transport to see Jaedite-you
can go when I do. My spell will
cover yours."
Rei didn't even blink before she
felt herself swamped by two
bouncing blonde pigtails, and
all of Serena's joy. "OHhhHH
THANnnnnnnnKKKKKKK YOU!!!!" Serena said.
Serena and Rei shook their heads.
"We need to go work on something."
They said dissappearing.
*******
A few hours later, a white and red
light blurred and formed the figures
of Serena and Rei. "Now, hurry
Serena...you can't be late this
time." Rei warned her. "I'll
leave in half an hour--with
or without you." She really didn't mean it--
but that was when the shield went up so she knew she
needed to make a credible threat.
Serena nodded. "I'll be here."
"Good." Rei turned and dissappeared into
the gardens of Endymion's palace. She smiled,
thinking of all the stealthy meetings over
the last few weeks where she and Jaedite had
played "chaperone" to Serena and Endymion.
Tonight though, she wanted her privacy...
He stood, waiting for her by the Cherry Blossom
Trees as always. She ran to him, and he
enfolded her in his arms.
"My love." He whispered. "I was
surprised when Malachite gave me your
note today....why did you risk coming
if the shield is to rise tonight?"
" Queen Serenity has officially
declared the Moon Kingdom's neutrality
...Jaedite,if the scourge attacking the
Mineral Kingdom and the borderlands moves
to your kingdom..."
Jed laughed. "That won't happen..."
She was somber. "It may..." Her color
faded... "I've seen it in the fire's winds."
He nodded..."Neflite seems worried as well.
I should have known. This war...it came
up so suddenly...." He cursed low..slaming
his fist into his hand. He turned to
look at her again. She smiled
bravely up at him.
"Queen Serenity may be overcautious,
but I'll rest easier if you are safe
behind shields. I suppose it is good she refused to
help." He said. "Though I admit
I was angry at first, as were the
other Generals. Queen Serenity is not
in favor here on earth, at the moment."
"I didn't realize...is that why Malachite
and Zoicite came to see her?"
"Yes...she refused to hear them out. She
simply said the Moon would not intercede
in the war on Beryl's behalf or on Ours...
A Gracious refusal, but refusal all the same."
He sighed....fingering her face..."But
Rei, my love, promise me that no matter
how long we are separated, that you'll
wait for me?"
She kissed him..."Jaedite I don't think
I could love anyone but you! Our souls
are bonded now...even if we can't wed
until after this war. But..."
She pulled something out of her cloak
"Take this..."
He stared at wonder at the small silvery
scroll. "What is this?"
"Jaedite--show that to no one. Not even
Enydmion. I...haven't told anyone
about it--but with this you can bypass
the shields of the Moon Kingdom and
transport in...but use it only if
you are in mortal danger!! If Queen Serenity
knew..." Her eyes were large.
He tucked it behind his Jacket,
next to his heart "Don't
worry--I'll keep it safe..."
"Let it keep *you* safe....I must
leave now..." She said sadly, as she
grabbed his hand and held it next to
her heart. She then pressed it to
her cheek and he pulled her in
to kiss her.
"Hey, don't cry...it's not forever."
He said...as he tasted the tears
trailing down her cheeks, stealing into
their kiss. "This little war
will blow over-and I'll be back up
on the Moon with you, dancing in
the Grand Hall at our Wedding. You'll
see..."
She nodded yes, smiled weakly. "Promise
me...you'll pray to the winds of fire, so I can
feel you in it?"
He nodded.
He stared at the spot where the red glow faded
long after she'd transported back to the moon.
*******************************************************
They arrived back at the temple to find the police
swarming around. Chad was slumped over in a corner,
and Grandpa was about to start yelling at the cops
for disturbing sacred rituals. Rei quickly moved
to intercede and prevent him from getting arrested.
Lita looked about, unsure what to do, when she felt
her elbow tapped. She turned, her eyes meeting those
of Wolf Malder. He smiled, and she flushed. He was
exactly her height, so their faces were very close.
"Why'd you run off before, Miss Kino?" He asked.
"We went to find Jed....but, we didn't catch him."
"Ahh...spoke with him already...interesting man...
Doesn't seem to know much about himself."
"He was in an accident awhile ago..." Lita said.
"Rei took him in out of...kindness."
"Is that what they call it in Japan?"Malder said,
looking over at Rei and Jed. Rei was obviously
furious, but too much to even say anything. Jed kept
apologizing, and even handed her one of the roses that
had fallen on the ground. That amused her even less.
"What do you mean?" Lita said.
"Look, Miss Kino, your friend doesn't seem to feel like
talking, but there have been some mighty strange events
around here...Again, your friend is attacked by two
career criminals, and though one got away, she took
down the other."
"Are you saying women can't defend themselves?" Lita countered
"Would you like me to try me?" She challenged.
"Some other time" He said quickly. "Fine. If
you feel like....talking, here's my card." He handed
her the same type of card he'd handed Rei.
"Chief" One of the officers called. "Headquarters just
got a tip that paid off-they found the other guy that
was partner's with this one--and get this! The sailor
girls tied him up like a present for us!"
The Chief swore, as he took the phone. He spoke quietly
for a few minutes, and then came to speak to Chad.
"Mr. Yuchiro, I'm very sorry..but we have no leads yet on
Miss Tamaguchi...it makes sense that these attacks on you
and Miss Hino are connected to the kidnapping, but then again, .
these guys refuse to talk.... Someone may be
threatening them into silence. Can you think of
anyone at all that would do this?"
"No...I can't...there's been no note?" He asked.
"Mr. Tamaguchi says just the one--that his
daughter will have a funeral ceremony instead
of a wedding if he does not deliver the 10 million
Brittish Pounds..."
"We don't have that kind of money...not without
selling the companies! And even then!"Chad threw
his hands up. "What are we going to do!"
The chief frowned. "I need to go back to the station now.
Maybe something will turn up. Malder, " he said
addressing the man. "You may be some hot shot
back home, but that's the last time you demand we come
see something...this was a waste of time."
Malder swore... "Miss Hino has been the center of two
strange attacks--supposedly overcoming some very
dangerous thugs.. And the way those two girls ran off...
I'm telling you, Sir. There's
something strange going on here at this shrine."
"Yeah, you going on about your theories is strange.
I've had it. All we have is an attack--maybe connected
with the kidnapping. That second girl looks rather
...er, tough, and I'm sure Miss Hino's black belt
in Karate would certainly explain her defensive capabilites.
Nothing odd at all...Stay out of my way Malder." The Chief
dismissed the man. "We have real work to do here."
The Chief left, while Malder stared pensively after him.
Rei approached him. "I think you should leave now.
We have things to do."
As he was walking away, Lita swore and looked at Rei "Come on,
he was *cute* you didnt need to send him away like that!"
"Why don't you follow him then!" Rei said, not too
nicely.
"All right then, I will...don't have to meet
Joe until six!" She laughed and hurried down
the steps to catch up to the dissapearing figure.
"Watch what you say Lita!" Rei screamed out.
She turned towards Chad. "A Sailor Scout
handed this to Jed...any idea where 53 Grain--
something street is? Should be a wharehouse....
SailorMars told me the thugs were to take Sora there."
Chad shook his head. He fingered the ripped
sheet of paper. "I can't believe the scouts
would help with something like this...but its the first
good thing I've heard all day."
"Chad, I could try reading the fire if you want."
"You've already done so much Rei...thanks." He
said kindly. Rei wondered not for the first time,
if he knew she was Sailor Mars...Maybe he did...but,
she smiled to herself...Maybe he maintaied Ôplausible
deniability on purpose.' She thought. Or maybe
he really was that dense.
"I feel like I haven't done enough." She said.
"I better go check with Mr. Tamaguchi...and if
there's word, he'll have it. I felt better being
here for awhile...this place always is peaceful."
"You should always feel free to come here--you
and Sora both." She said brightly. "You'll
get her back, you'll see."
Chad smiled weakly, and left. "Well, if they
got her, at least they won't attack you anymore."
Rei narrowed her eyes and thought to herself--
not unless I attack them first!
@)->----------->
Jed fingered the scroll that had been inside of his jacket,
which had been inside the motorbike's back seat when
it had been stolen.
He hadn't been able to tell Rei of its existence...it was
the one posession he had that linked him to his former life.
He hadn't noticed it before, but the other day, when he'd
felt those weird powers, he'd suddenly found the scroll.
And then he'd remembered....it had been instinctual
to him not to lose the small object...Cradling
the scroll, he tucked it inside
his shirt, resolving not to put it somehwere secure
this time. He still hadn't unraveled it...something
stopped him everytime he started to untie the knot.
His memories were almost within his reach. The longer
he held the scroll, the more the layers of
fog slipped away.
Underneath one of the lamps, and bathed in the fuzzy
moonlight, he could make
out some words...what were they? His frustration
made his breath spill out sharply. And then suddenly,
he was not himself. A rush of memories swirled about
his head, and he felt himself fading....into another
world.
He knew without knowing how, that he was on the moon
but there was no kingdom--it was a devastated
ghost world, now. Not the grand palace he remembered.
"General Jaedite, I wish your return to the Moon
Kingdom could be under better circumstances." The
voice came from a small ball of light--it was Queen
Serenity. He knelt.
"I do not deserve to be here--I caused this."
"Beryl caused it. Do not take that blame on your
shoulders. There is too much misery there already."
The queen said gently.
"I did not protect Endymion--I betrayed your
faith in me!" He said.
"If you are here now, then you did not betray
the Moon Kingdom." She smiled. "You had the power
to give Beryl entry to our world--but you refused."
"I didn't stop her--I fought with her!"
"With your body...but not your soul. She never
had that...or else your love for Rei would never
invoke the spell that brings you to me now." Queen
Serenity shimmered briefly. "I once
gave Rei permission to love you...I do so again."
"Why? She must hate me." He said.
"Just as my daughter and Endymion are bound
for eternity, so are you and Rei. You complete her.
Go to her." The Queen shimmered again, and
a moonbeam enveloped him. He found
himself back at the shrine. In his palm
lay a ring...carved of gold, adorned
with moonstones and rubies in an infinity
sign.... He had given
this once to Rei...His wondernment
at the newfound knowledge was short
lived...a sudden sense of panic
enveloped him. Rei was in trouble.

1. Here's chapter 5. Two more to go.
Again, I apologize for messing up the spelling
of the names...so much for my resolution to
be consistent! I'm too busy with
schoolwork to edit right now, and as I
have internet access for only a month
and 1/2 more, I'd rather post hastily
than not at all. The one promise i
*will* keep is to post the whole
story--I refuse to leave people hanging. :).
2. If you want more, before its posted,
write alinasan@yahoo.com and tell me what
you've read up to (so I know which chapters
to send you) and I'll send it to you as soon as I can.
I have the next two chapters for this, and all of the
next two stories after this. (Lita's and Amy's
stories...the final one is Mina's. I've
only written the first chapter of
that.)
Chapter 5:***************Silver*******Millenium********Ball*********
"This was a good idea, it was extremely
hot in there!" Rei breathed in,
as Jaedite escorted her onto the balcony
room overlooking the Gardens of the Moon
Palace.
He laughed. "That's because you kept
wanting to dance...you do that very well
by the way!"Forming his powers he concentrated
and produced a small white lily like the one
she wore in hair...
"A Casablanca....these are my favorite
flowers!" "She said enchanted
by the simple spell... "Oh it's beautiful..."
"Not as much as you..." He whispered, leaning
forward to caress her cheek. "You're
something special... " She blushed.
"You shouldn't say these things...I might think you
mean all those compliments." She teased.
"You think I don't?" he said, his tone light.
A smile played on his lips.
"You aren't the serious type...OH! Look,
I never noticed it before, but all the
trees form the pattern of a Rabbit!" She looked
out over the gardens below, neatly changing
the subject.
He leaned over the balustrade next to her.
"You're right! Funny..from the Earth all
we see is the back side of the Moon...
The side with the craters."
"That's the ugliest part of it too! How
sad!" Rei commented. "It's a beautiful
place though..."
"The Moon does look beautiful on Earth--
the thing is I mentioned the craters
because they *form* a rabbit--at least,
that's what I see when I look up at it.
I wonder what the significance of the rabit
is?"
"Not everything has symbollic meaning.
Look at the Earth! It's beautiful, but
I don't see any patterns in it. And isn't that Mars"
She pointed. He leaned in closer...
"Where" he whispered in her ear--"I don't see
it...but then, I'd rather look at *this*
Mars..."
She turned, her eyes meeting his.
Slowly, her face moved into his, and
he leaned forward and gently kissed her. She pulled
back surprised.
"Lord Jaedite!!" She said.
"I've wanted to do that for a year."
"Then what stopped you!?" She blurted out, her
hand coming up to late to stop the admission.
"Your cousin, your father...and You." He smiled.
"I hope you didn't mind?"
She turned away, so he could see her only in
profile..."And now?" She asked... "What changed?"
He smiled, and moved forward to hold
her again... "I decided that I was more afraid
of not telling you how I feel, then of
telling you."
"I see.."She seemed to be weighing his
words. She turned back towards the garden.
"So...are you going to give me another
punnishment now, for insulting you?" He asked
smiling boyishly.... "We're a little far
for me to clean the canals..."
"Oh no!" She blushed again, half-turning
to face him... "I was so mean
to you that day! "
"You weren't, I deserved everything you did...I
thought too much of my self, and needed to
be taken down a peg or two." He took her
hands in his. "But, then I've never enjoyed a punnishment
so much either...." The movement
pulled her around to face him again.
Her blush and smile deepened. "So you said."
Her voice was coy. "And I told you
then you'd enjoy the reward much more..."
He grinned and lowered his head again to hers--
"About that reward..." Rei closed her eyes, as
she felt his arms encircle her...She was so
glad no one else was there...it was like
their own private world...
A little while later, Jaedite went to refill
their glasses of Moon Punch, and Rei gazed
over the gardens. As she heard him approach
she said. "Isn't that Queen Beryl?" She pointed
to the figure of a woman stalking through the gardens.
He peered down. "Wonder what she's doing out there?"
"Does she know Endymion's here? Perhaps they
arranged to meet...That's so romantic...I didn't
know he had that in him..." She smiled down.
"Actually, I think he's avoiding her. I wouldn't
mention him to her if I were you." He cautioned.
"But why? They *are* engaged.." She said sipping
the frizzy white beverage.
"I doubt he's meeting her...he can't stand her."
He laughed. "I'm sure she doesn't know he's here...
He's not supposed to be after all."
"If he doesn't even like her, why is
he marrying her? He never told me that!" She asked
her voice softening out of sympathy. "Why is
she so awful?"
" To know Beryl is to...dislike her." He put down his
glass... "I can't explain why....I feel bad for him..."
"Oh! I do too...I wish he could marry for
love!" She sighed. "But I suppose politics
and duty prevent such things..."
"Would they prevent that for you?" He asked, his
voice suddenly serious.
She frowned... "I don't know...but then, I
had not thought about that..." She blushed. "Somethings
you cannot talk about...."She said more quietly,
as she drained her glass and set it down.
"I'd like to know...." He
said leaning down and taking her hand, as he
knelt below her. "Otherwise, I'm not sure that
a lowly warrior such as myself has a right
to court you."
"Be serious." she said pulling her hands
away and pushing his shoulder playfully.
"I am, though I feel too happy to be serious
...Will you marry me?--" He said, the words
forming of their own accord....
"Rei? Did you hear me?" He asked as she
leaned against the balcony wall,
wide eyed in shock.
"What did you say?" She said, regaining
some composure.
"I said I want to marry you...The Goddess
of the Moon protect me, but I think I
fell in love with you the moment I saw you!"
"This...it's too much!!" She said, pulling away
and leaning over the balcony. She took a huge
gulp of air. She was drawn to this man...she
felt alive and warm when she was near him--but
marry? How could she when she'd just started her
duties gaurding the Princess? He was the Prince's
gaurd...She was only eighteen!
She heard him utter a low oath... "I'm Sorry,
Princess Mars....."He bowed slightly.. "I..."
IDIOT...he thought to himself...why had he said that?
He shouldn't...at least not so *soon*....
He couldn't shake the feeling though,
that he would never get another chance..."If you
would prefer, I never said ...what I just did."
She looked up, and then turned around to face
him. She met his eyes, holding his gaze
she stepped forward, leaned in and kissed him.
He held her, until his curiosity won over passion
and he pulled back and asked "Does this mean..."
He trailed off again.
"I mean yes." She said. "Yes I will marry you,
Lord Warrior Jaedite!" Her eyes shined... "That
is...*IF* My Father and Queen Serenity approve
and permit me to do so...and IF" She smiled
coyly "You earn such a reward!"
He laughed, the tension shooting out of him.
"And...how would I do that, My Lady?"
She merely smiled. "You'll figure that out..."
He grinned... "Would it hurt my cause
to give you this?" He handed her a small
case, holding a delicate gold ring
of rubies and moonstones,forming
an infinity symbol. "This
was my grandmother's ring." He said.
"It's so..."She didn't complete the words
..."But I can't wear it...not yet! I
have ..."
"Permission from the Queen? Surely
you could wear it as a necklace then?" He
asked..."I wish I had one...or that
I were Mal, he can form gold with his power...
Or..."
"There..." She said having put it on
the simple gold chain she was wearing. "Until
the ring can answer for my heart, I shall
wear it near my heart..." She smiled...
"If only you weren't leaving tomorrow!" She cried
then.
"Then let's make the most of tonight then,
my love..."he smiled, at being able to
finally call her that.
She blushed, but moved closer in his embrace.

*******************************present day******
After the plane took off, Serena went to meet Darrien and Rei
and Lita walked off together towards the temple.
Lita smiled, admiring the view "It's too bad
Ami and Mina will miss Chad's wedding, ...I bet
it'll be really pretty here with the Cherry Blossoms
in bloom."
Rei suddenly noticed a flower box with two dozen white
roses in it. " If things work like I think, there won't
be one to miss. Chad'll come to his senses before this Saturday
...."Rei said excitedly, noting the expensive floral shop signature.
"These are probably to thank me for saving him last night!
She smiled, lost in her fantasies as she said.
"I better go put these in some water."
Lita began to read the card. Rei returned with the vase
just as Lita's breath drew in sharply.
"What's that?" She said, tenderly touching the flowers--
revelling in the scent. She noticed Lita reading the card.
"Hey, that's private!" She said snatching the card away.
"They're not from Chad! "
"Well who else would they be from?" Rei asked her voice growing sharper
"They're from Sarah! The card says--"thanks for saving
my love...do you think these flowers will work for the
wedding? See you for tea? Sarah"" Lita could barely finnish
she could not stop laughing. "Sorry Rei" She wiped the
tears out of her eyes
but your're expression when I told you that!"
Rei's face grew as red as her jumper. She opened the card,
and read for herself. Lita could almost see the steam coming
out of her ears.
"She's got really bad handwriting doesn't she?" Lita said, soothingly.
"GET OUT!" Rei screamed, shoving Lita, card, and the flowers out the door.
Unfortunately, she didn't do this too gracefully, and Lita ended up getting
hit
with the vase.
"OUCH" Lita said. She grumbled looking back at the door,
and rubbed her head. Fortunately, all the vase broke was
the clipholding her hair, so not much
impacted her skull. She shook her hair loose, its brown strands
framing her face. It felt messy and in her way--Lita was a
little annoyed. She turned around
and pounded the door. "REI--YOU WENT TOO FAR THIS TIME--CHAD OR
NO CHAD!"
Though both were prone to fighting, they usually
didn't get into it with each other. This would
probably be a dangerous situation that sensible people would
avoid.
Two men who didn't ordinarily visit temples
observed this, but were not sensible people.
"This is the temple all right where the wedding is to be--"One said.
"Yeah, and our source said that the girl was coming here for tea.."
"That must be her!" They said to each other hearing the girl
yell out Chad's name. "Looks like the right color and length
of hair...seems taller."
"Got to be her. Let's get this over with...the boss wasn't
too happy that the first team botched the job--turns out
it was even the *wrong* girl."
"What idiots. Let's show Ôem how its done." The first said.
They charged and grabbed Lita, who, not expecting to
do any fighting other than verbally with Rei was at first shocked.
But not too shocked to be taken down. She shrugged, throwing her
assailants into the wall,at that moment Rei opened the door. "Lita
get in, I felt something ev----"
Seeing Rei, one of the men tried to grab her. She threw him backwards,
and he fell down the first set of steps. The other sunk as Lita
got in a good roundhouse kick to his chest.
"Rei...what's going on here?" Lita asked, confused. "Why
are thugs attacking you?"
Rei looked up from checking the pulse of the man she'd pushed
down the stairs..."I don't know...twice in two days...."
She looked up to see Chad's whitened worried face.
"Rei--have you seen Sarah?" his voice
was barely a gasp.
"What?" Rei asked, letting the thug's head fall to the ground.
"Oh god...you've been attacked again! They've got Sarah then..."
As if someone had drained his energy, he lowered himself to the ground...
"We got a ransom note...but I thought she was coming here....she'd
have been safe if she were here...." He muttered to himself
inchorently..."But
they must have taken her before she got here..."
He looked at the man at Rei's feet. With one hand he picked him up, slapped
him awake "TALK DAMN IT--WHERE IS SHE?" He barked.
"I don't know man...stop it" The guy whined. "I didn't do anything...
This psycho priestess just attacked me..."
Roughly, Chad shoved the guy to the ground. "Yeah, well tell
that to the police...you're in a lot of trouble."
"Not half so much as your girlfriend" The other
thief said crawling up, clutching his stomach.
Lita turned, but he was too quick, as
he scrambled away, leapt onto Jed's bike and drove
down the steps of the temple.
That sound brought Jed out quickly, his robes swirling about him
"Rei--what's going on, did Gramps--hey"
He saw the figure speeding away on his bike. "That's my bike!"
Without thinking, he took off running...and as he ran, almost unbidden
the words formed in his mouth "Earth Mineral Power" and suddenly, he was
flying
over the side of the temple away from the steps.
Fortunately, Chad's back was turned, staring at
the thug. But unfortunatley the remaining
thug, as well as Rei and Lita saw the transformation.
The thug kept saying "Flying man" in a litany...
"So much for your four points." Rei said under her
breath to Lita. "Chad, you'd better call
the police. Come on Lita, we've got to follow him."
"One second, I was right about point number four.... look behind you."
Lita was staring and blushing, Wolf Malder strolled up the steps. A light
sheen of perspiration glazed his brow, and he was breathing slightly quick.
He raised an eyebrow. "Another attack, Ms. Hino? Rather
unusual at a Shrine isn't it?"
"What are you doing here?" She said unceremoniously.
Lita began to try and fix her hair.
"I told you I had some questions for you...thought of a couple more...
But now it looks like I'll have to add to that." He glanced over
at the shocked thug.
"Flying manflying man flying man"
"He hit his head." Rei said.
"Oh really....pattern with you isn't it?" Malder said, looking over and up
at Lita. "Who's your friend?"
"I'm Lita...Kino..." She smiled shyly.
"Care to tell me what happened here Miss Kino?" He asked.
"Sure thing.." she looked at Rei who was saying "But not right now."
The two took off running down the steps...when
they were around a corner,
Rei shouted out "Mars Crystal Power" as Jupiter
cried "Jupiter Crystal power"
Each was bathed in her color right, as warm winds
spun them around,
their uniforms appearing and replacing their clothes...
they stood for barely
a second, poised for battle, before they started running
faster than humanly possible.
"Where are we going Mars?" Jupiter said.
"After Jaedite." Mars said, jumping over a fence, to land on
the other side of an alley. Jupiter did the same.
The buildings flew by beside them
"Gathered that--but how? I can't see him"
"I just *sense* where he is when he's transformed...it's odd...
But I can tell which direction to go--" she stopped short
as they almost ran into a brick wall. "He's on the other side"
"Guess it's up and over then--" Jupiter said, boosting her
friend over the 10 foot wall. Then jumping and scrambling
over herself. Gingerly they landed on the other side...
"I lost him" Mars said.
"See him--over there" Jupiter responded, pointing to
a young man in a temple robe lovingly checking out a bike.
"Where'd the man go you were chasing?" Mars asked.
He looked up his face shocked---"HEY! You're the one
that saved me!!! Sa sa sailor Mars?" he said in shock.
She sighed. "Would you answer?."
"Ssssailor Jupiter--you're real? I thought it was a dream..." He
said wonderstruck.
"Look Jed,"
"You know my name? Did you come about my powers?"
Jupiter noticed something then. "Mars, look up there!" She pointed.
To a balcony in one of the apartments. The two deftly jumped
up the fire escape and scrambled, kicking in the glass of the window.
The thief shrank back. "Oh no!"
"Oh yes!" Jupiter declared, posing, ready to
attack. She and Mars circled around the small room, trapping him.
Mars exhaled sharply "I thought she'd be here....but its empty."
"Why were you attacking that girl at the temple?" Jupiter demanded.
"Hey they attacked us....how do you know about that?" he whimpered.
"Don't like to us." Mars said. "You know who we are don't you?"
"You don't really want to experience what its like to be hit by lightening
do you?" Jupiter threatened.
"All right! I was supposed to kidnap that girl" He said. "Why do you
care....
Please don't hurt me." he added as Jupiter edged closer.
"We'd rather not." Jupiter said. "But if you tell us what we need to
know, we wouldn't have to hurt you, would we?"
"Who hired you?"Rei asked.
"I don't know" He reached behind him and pulled out a gun.
"Ok girlies, tables are turned aren't they now? I'm going to leave...
And next time I'll get your friend." He laughed evily. He barely turned
his head as he tried to open the door, but it was enough. Jupiter
leapt forward, kicked the gun out, and trapped him in a headlock.
"Talk. Answer the lady." She growled.
He whimpered as Jupiter tightened the hold."I just know
he's some rich guy, never lets us see him." She pushed him again.
"I swear I"m telling the truth. He just leaves us instructions in the
mailbox....." He mumbled it. Rei concentrated...
"He's not lying. Ok, second question, Do you know
where Sora Tamaguchi is?"
"What?...Isn't she at the temple? OUCH--(Lita shifted her hold again) all I
know
is we were supposed to take the girl to a wherehouse near the harbor...hold
her there." He paused, and continued. "Maybe one of the others got her...
If she's already missing.....I'm going to be in big trouble"
"You already are" Lita thundered. "So which wharehouse?"
"All I know is on that" He said, nodding
to the picture on the floor. "The wharehouse street's on the back"
They picked up the picture of Sora, which
was ripped down the middle, and flipped it over.
In blurred numbers it read 58 Grain...The letters looked as if
