Little One
Part 3

I don't own SM. Sorry, but I dn't feel like long AN's like usual...

The small creature looked up at Ami in fear. Ami
wasn't scared of it, but more or less worried for it.
She kneeled down on to her hands and knees and
crawled around the bush to the baby. She now could
see it better, since her body wasn't blocking the street
lamp's light. It was a baby, in a sense. It couldn't
have been no more than two or three years old. It was
another tiger based gargoyle. Except, instead of it
being orange like the one that attacked her, it was
blue with the darkest blue eyes she had ever seen. It
had human like hair on top of it's head, that was in a
tight braid.

Ami slowly reached her hand towards it. The small
tiger leaned away from her, so Ami kept her hand
still. When she didn't move her hand, the baby slowly
stood and walked to her hand. Taking her hand in it's
small ones, it turned her hand over, inspecting it. It
smiled when it realised Ami meant it no harm. A siren
from somewhere in the distance made both of them look
up in surprise. Becoming scared again, the small
gargoyle jumped onto Ami, holding her around the
waist very tightly.

Ami smiled and hugged the small creature. Standing
with it in her arms, she began to walk back to her
apartment.
***********

It was a real trick trying not to let people catch her
with a gargoyle baby, but somehow, Ami managed it.
Walking into her apartment and turning the lights on,
the gargoyle looked into its new surroundings. It
jumped from her arms and began to explore the
apartment. Ami smiled and sat down on her couch.

"Why am I so tired?" The phone rang and Ami looked at
it with annoyance. Only seven thiry and she was ready
for sleep. The phone rang again and Ami answered it.

"Hello?"

"Ami? You ok?" It was Greg.

Ami smiled sadly and sighed. "Yeah, I'm ok. Did Serena
call you?"

"Yeah. She told me to call you. You still mad at me?"

ami chuckled. "I wasn't mad at you, Greg. I just was
having a bad day, thats all. I'm sorry for going off
on you tonight."

Greg laughed. "You didn't go off on me. You didn't
even talk to me. So, what did the docter say?"

"I.." Ami hesitated. "I- I can't tell you over the
phone. Why don't you come over?"

"Right now?"

"If you want." Then the thought of the gargoyle came to
her mind. "I'd like to show you something."

Ami knew Greg was smiling. "Ok. I'll be over in a
little bit."

"Ok."

"Ami?"

"Yeah?"

"I love you."

Ami smiled. "I love you, too. Bye."

"Bye." Ami hung up the phone and the gargoyle jumped
up into her lap. She smiled as she studied him some
more. Thats when she noticed, He was a she. Ami's
smile grew and scratched her ear. The cub smiled and
purred. Ami chuckled. She would make a great
mother...Ami stopped laughing and became sad again
Too bad she couldn't have children

She hung her head and a tear slipped down her face.
The cub stopped purring and looked at Ami's down cast
face. she took Ami's face into her small hands and
looked at her quizically.

"They're called tears," Ami told her. "You shed them
mostly when you're sad." Ami wasn't sure if she
understood or not. The small cub looked at the tear
one more time before wiping it away. When it was gone,
she smiled at Ami. Ami did too, just a little. She
must have thought if you wipe away the tear, you'd be
happy again.

When Ami smiled, the cub wrapped her arms around Ami's

neck, hugging her. Ami hugged her back.

"Are you hungry, little one?" She nodded and Ami did a
double take then smiled. "So, you do understand me?"

She nodded again. "I can talk, too." Ami stared at her
in amazement.

"How old are you?" The liitle cub held up three
fingers and Ami smile grew. "Do you have a name?"

The cub shook her head 'no'. "Well, come on,' Ami said
picking her up. "We'll think of one while I fix you
something to eat, ok?"

"Ok." Ami carried the little girl to the kitchen and
sat her on the counter. The cub folded her wings
around her shoulders and watched Ami. "What's your
name?"

Ami blushed. "My name is Ami. What would you like to
eat, little one?"

"Um..." She looked confused. "I don't know."

"How about...hmmm...we order pizza? Most three year
olds I know love it. Is that ok?"

"I guess. I've never had it before."

"It's good. I'll get a plain cheese since you've never
had it before, ok?"

"Ok. Who's Greg?"

Ami laughed. Such innocence. "He's my boyfriend." She
laughed at the cub's disgusted face. "You'll grow up
to like boys one day."

"I don't think so," she said, still acting disgusted.
"Do you have any kids, Ami?"

"No, I don't."

"Was that why you were crying?"

Ami sighed and sat on a stool at the bar next to the
cub. "Yes, it was. I can't have kids."

"Why not?"

"I was hurt in a car accident and it made me not be
able to have children."

"Oh." The cub sighed. "Where's my mommy?"

"Huh?"

"The old lion gargoyle told me he was bringing me to
my mommy tongiht. Then we were attacked by that
tigress and he was killed. Then you found me. I
thought you might know her."

Ami had to keep herself from crying. Three years old
and she held such intelligence. Ami placed a hand on the
tirgress face. "I'm sorry, sweetie. I don't know."

"Oh." She looked up at Ami shyly. "Where am I going to
live?"

"I guess you can live here until we do find your
mommy. Is that ok?"

"I feel safe here. I want to live here always. Can I?"

Ami knew she wouldn't be able to, but not to worry
her, Ami agreed. "Yes, you can." A knock on the door
made them both look up. "Greg must be here. Are you
ready to meet him?" She nodded. Ami smiled and walked
to the door. Opening it, she found flowers being
shoved into her face. White lilies, her favorite.
"Hello Greg," Ami said taking them from him.

"Hi." Ami moved so he could come in. "What did the
doctor say?"

"I'm not pregnant."

"Oh." Greg smiled. "Well, we'll just keep trying then,
huh?"

"No, we can't."

"Why not?"

"I can't become pregnant."

"Why not?"

Ami looked down and noticed the cub was now hiding
behind her legs. "I want you to meet someone, Greg."

"Who," Greg asked confused. Greg followed Ami's gaze
down and saw the gargoyle...
**************

"So, you found her after the fight," Greg asked,
taking another bite of pizza.

"Yup. Thanks for paying for the pizza, too."

"Its ok." Greg looked into the living room to see the
cub watching cartoons on the tv. He smiled.

"Why are you smiling, Greg?"

"She's so cute. What's her name?"

"She doesn't have one. And, I can't think of one,
either."

"Oh. Well, we'll worry about that later then, huh?"

"What do you mean?"

"Aren't you going to keep her," Greg asked.

"I want to," Ami admitted. "But, I doubt that I
could .It would cause to many problems since she's not
human."

"I guess I can understand that. What are you going to
do with her, then?"

"Keep her for now. I'll talk to the girls tomorrow and
see what we should do."

"Sounds like a plan," Greg said smiling.

"I'm done!" The couple looked into the living room and
started to laugh. The little girl had pizza sauce
smeared all over her face and down her clothes.

Ami stood up and trhew her plate away. Still smiling,
she walked into the living room and picked the cub up.
"You're suppossed to eat the pizza, sweetie. Not wear
it."

The cub looked at her confused. "I did eat it..."

Ami smiled. "Greg, can you pick her mess up while I
give her a bath?"

"Sure," Greg said throwing away his plate. He watched
Ami tickle the little cub while walking to the
bathroom. As he picked up the cub's plate and cup, he
could hear the water running. As he put the cup into
the sink, Greg heard a scream come from the bathroom
running to the bathroom, he opened the door far enough
to peek in and see what was wrong.

"What happened?"

Ami was crouched on the floor. "Don't open the door
any further. She's behind it." Ami took her gaze away
from Greg and looked back at the cub. "Its ok,
sweetie. Whats wrong?"

The cub was crouched in the corner behind the door,
shaking and crying. Her eyes were closed tightly, an
her knees were pulled up to her chest. Ami crawled
over to the cub and petted her head. She didn't calm
down, but she didn't pull away either.

"Whats wrong with her, Ami," Greg asked.

Ami was now pulling the cub into ther arms so Greg
could come into the bathroom. "I think she has a fear
of water. I ran her bath, took her clothes off. She
was fine until her foot hit the water." Ami stood up
and began to rock the cub in her arms. "Its ok,
sweeite. Can you tell me whats wrong?"

"I want my mommy," the cub cried out, clutching Ami's
shirt.

"Its ok, calm down," Greg said scratching the cub's
ear. She seemed to be calming down now.

"She needs a bath, but won't get in alone," Ami said.
The gears in her mind began to turn as she thought of
a plan. "I have an idea. Take her and I'll be right
back." Ami handed the cub to Greg and disappeared into
another door that lead to her bedroom.

Greg smiled at the teary faced cub. "How about yo
tell me why you're afraid of water, little one?"

The cub rubbed her eyes with the back of her hand. "I
nearly died once."

"Oh," Greg said in understanding. "Well, this I
shallow water, see?" Greg sat on the floor next to the
tub. "Stick your arm in and seefor yourself." The cub
looked at him, but didn't move. "Its ok. I won't let
anything happen to you. I promise."

The cub looked at him a few moments more before
sticking her hand into the water. As she leaned over,
she smiled when her finger tips brushed the bottom of
the tub.

"Will you get in the water now," Greg asked her. She
shook her head no.

"How about if I get in with you, little one?" Greg and
the cub turned to see Ami standing in her large,
plush white robe. Ami untied her sash and underneath
the robe she wore a bathing suit. "Come on. You can
sit in my lap, little one." Ami walked to the tub and
climbed in. Still standing, she took the cub from
Greg, who was now standing, too.

The cub held onto to Ami and looked unsure. "Its ok,
sweetie. Nothing will happen, ok? I won't let anything
happen." The cub, still unsure, nodded and Ami began
to sit down. When Ami was sitting in the tub, the cub
was now standing in Ami's lap. "You can get in the
water. You'll be ok." The cub looked at her again
before letting go of her. She turned and sat in Ami's
lap. Ami looked up at Greg and they both smiled. The
cub slid off of Ami's lap and stood..

And smiled.

The water came to mid thigh on her. She sat back down,
except in the tub. She smiled and splahed Ami with
water. Ami smiled more and splashed the cub back.

"Greg, hand me a wash cloth, please," Ami asked while
playing a small game with the cub. Greg smiled and did
as he was told. Ami took the wash cloth from him and
wet it in the water. "Come here, sweetie." The cub
scooted over so she was now sitting right in front of
Ami. Ami began to wipe the cub's face off with the
wash cloth. After Ami was done with her face, she
cleaned the rest of the cub's body and handed the wash
cloth back to Greg. Ami then told the cub to turn
around, which she did, and Ami began to undoe the
cub's long braid.

"Hand me a brush, Greg. Please?"

"Sure thing." Greg once again stood and walked to
Ami's cabinet to look for a brush. When he found one,
he handed it to Ami. Ami smiled her thanks and began
to brush the tangles from the cub's hair. After
brushing out the tangles, Ami had the cub lean back
and she began to wet and wash the cub's long hair.

After the shampoo was out of the cub's hair, Ami
picked the cub up in her arms and stepped out of the
tub. She reached over to the sink and picked up a
towel she had laid out. "Stand up, sweetie," Ami said,
placing the cub on the toilet. The cub did as she was
told while Ami dried her with a the towel. "Greg, go
see if I have any small shirts for her to wear, would
you please?"

"Sure, Ames," Greg said, leaving the bathroom.

"How do you feel, sweetie," Ami asked the cub, drying
her hair.

"Is that my name," she asked.

"What?"

" 'Sweetie'?"

"Oh, no," Ami said smiling. "Just a nick name until we
figure out your real name, ok?" The cub nodded then
yawned. "Are you tired?" The cub nodded.

"Here ya go," Greg said returning and handing the
shirt to Ami. "Smallest one I could find."

"That will work. Thanks. One more favor?" Greg nodded.
"Go get the spare bedroom ready for her, ok?"

"Sure. Tired, little one," Greg asked the little girl
She nodded and yawned again. "I'll be right back."

"Ok," Ami said wrapping the towel around the cub. "You
can sit down now, sweetie," Ami said standing and
getting a comb. She then began to get the tangles out
of her hair again then braided it again. After Ami was
done with her hair, she put the small white tee shirt
over the cubs head. But there was one problem: the
cub's wings. But, that was soon solved. The cub
streched her wings, and the shirt ripped in the back,
giving her room for her wings to come through. The cub
caped her wings around her shoulders as Ami picked her
up.

Ami walked to the spare bedroom and saw Greg pulling
the blankets down fer the little cub. Ami smiled at
him as she passed him. As Ami placed the cub on the
bed, she was already asleep. Ami smiled and kissed the
cub's head. "Good night, little angel." Ami stood back
up and walked out of the room where Greg was waiting
for her.

"Cute name," he said smiling.

"What are you talking about," Ami asked, going back to
the bathroom.

"Angel. It's a cute name." Greg followed her.

Ami didn't even think of that as a name. "It is, isn't
it?"

"Yeah. So, do you wanna tell me what you meant earlier
by you can't have kids?"

Ami sighed. "Just that," she said, draining the tub
and picking up her robe and placing it over her
shoulders and slipping her arms through the sleeves.

"Ever," Greg asked, picking up the towels left on the
floor.

"Never." Ami took the towels form him and walked back
into the hall. She opened a closet door and placed the
wet towels in a hamper. After she closed the door, she
went to the living room and sat down on the couch.
Greg sat down next to her.

"Is that why you hung up on me earlier today, Ami?"
Ami didn't say anything. Instead she leaned back with
her face looking up at the ceiling. She nodded her
head 'yes'.

"Not gonna tell me why you felt you had to do that,"
Greg asked while slipping a hand underneath her head.

Ami lowered her head to rest on his shoulder, but
still had her eyes closed. His arm tightened around
her shoulders. "I knew how much you wanted kids and I
didn't want you to give up that dream because of me."

Greg kissed the top of her head. "Its ok, Ami. I won't
ask about it any more, ok?" Ami nodded. "Ami?"

"Yes, Greg?"

"I love you."

Ami sat up and looked into his eyes. He meant it. She
leaned up and kissed him on his lips as his arms
circled her waist. After a few moments, Greg
repostioned his his arms so he could pick Ami up into
his arms.

As he stood with her, she deepened the kiss. He
carried her to her bed room and silently closed the
door with his foot...
