Past Meetings
Chapter Twenty Five
by, Cony

That hit the spot. It triggered Mercury's anger. That was something
that everyone was scared about, she became ten times more
powerful when she was angry. She felt as pure energy filled her, and
heard herself say: "We will see about that." She gathered power on
her hands, which became blue with energy. "TAKE THIS REN!!!"

She let that enormous power free, letting it fly towards her enemy.
She had never been angrier that at that time, so her little body was
completely overloaded with power. Ren only could open his mouth to
scream, as the powerful blast hit him directly. He wasn't even able to
scream, as his whole body twisted and turned in weird angles. Pain
was the only thing he felt, leaving his pores, tearing him apart. He
felt his body being split in two, and as another wave of power hit him,
his brain made every little cell in his whole organism scream in
torture.

Mercury's rage was beginning to fade, and realizing what she had
just done, she let her hands return to her sides, the power stopping
almost immediately. She was breathing raggedly, her chest rising
and falling quickly. Zoisite stood up, and walked to mercury.
"M...Mercury, are you alright?"

The princess' eyes were focused on Ren's limp body, which was
laying about ten meters away from them. "Zoisite, I... I killed him. I
killed him."

She started crying, and buried her face in his chest. Hot tears were
falling down her cheeks, wetting his shirt. He didn't know what to do,
but hug her. He did, and crossed his arms around her back.

"Sssh, Mercury. Don't cry. It wasn't your fault."

"But... it... ... was. I killed him. How can I ever face
my friends again?" Mercury's little hands were wrapped tightly
against Zoisite's shirt, almost tearing it off. He brought his hand up,
and started stroking her head, trying to calm the girl in his arms.

Zoisite's touch was like heavenly balm to her shattered nerves. She
calmed down a bit, and stopped cried few moments later. She heard
as he told her it wasn't her fault, it was an accident, she had nothing
to do with it. Mercury opened her eyes, and looking up, to Zoisite's
worried face, whispered: "Are you sure?"

"A hundred percent."

She smiled slowly, and thanked him from her heart. Releasing
herself from his hug, she cleaned the tears away, and laughing a
little, said: "Well, we did defeat him at last."

"So it looks like," answered Zoisite, trying his best to reassure the
girl.

"Zoisite, can I... look out." Zoisite was surprised, but so many years
in the battlefield had taught him that the best reaction to an
unexpected situation is to react quickly. He drew out his sword in
less than a second, and turned around, to see as Ren was almost
over him, with his own sword over his head, laughing maniacally. "I
may die, but I'm taking you with me."

Mercury covered her eyes, and felt as something hot splashed in her
hand. When she dared to look again, she saw that Zoisite was on
his knees, his sword in both hands, holding it up firmly, as it
penetrated Ren's body through the heart. It was so deeply inside,
that the handle was the only thing left to see, and the end of it was
shining, sticking out of his back.

The prince of Saturn choked, and looking at both of them with evil
eyes, muttered: "I... I will have my revenge." Zoisite pushed him
forwards, and with the sword still inside him, he fell to the floor. He
landed loudly, and his head rebounded in the ground. "The Negaforce
will prevail, no matter what...." A choke interrupted him, a spurt of
blood coming out of his mouth.

"You will pay... I know you will." His voice faded out, and his eyes
closed. His face fell to the side, and Mercury closed her eyes again,
trying to vanish the image from her mind. Suddenly, the crystal
sword shone for a moment, then dissolved in a puff of white smoke.
To their surprise, so did Ren's dead body. But it dissolved into a
black, sticky-looking substance, to then fade into nothing but a
memory.
