Struck once again by inspiration, I decided to start a mailing list. I know, I know, there are a ton of mailing lists already in existence. I'm on a number of them myself. The problem is that I'm dissatisfied with them. I've continually joined and dropped ML after ML since I discovered them years ago. I either feel out of place or don't quite fit in...I just figured if I started and moderated my own list, I could eliminate some of those problems. Also, with me traveling to Japan, it will be easier for me to answer email conserning my Temple and send everyone updates. Plus, you'd get to hear my cool stories straight from the motherland! Anyway, here are my loose guidelines:
1) At it's most basic, this is an anime/manga discussion list. If you're a newbie who is willing to learn or an old schooler who wants to discuss and share, join up. Obsessing over shows or character crushes is accepted (and encouraged!). Video games may be included, but not overwhelming. I will also make an exception for movies (I am a film major, I enjoy that sort of thing) and books, as long as people are willing to share their loves in detail, not just "Oh, you should read so-and-so, she's so cool."
2) Since this ML originates from my Temple, it is obviously extremely shounen ai friendly. I enjoy discussing male/male relationships, and those on this ML should, too. Of course, hetero relationships aren't evil or taboo. As shown in my Love Knows No Gender section, I have a strong affinity for certain hetero couples, such as Arima & Yukino of KareKano and Hayama & Sana-chan of Kodomo no Omocha. Everyone's opinions are welcome and should be treated with equal respect.
3) Along with the shounen ai idea, this list is also rather shota tolerant. In simple terms, since I have a thing for (anime!) younger guys (10-14 years old), then the ML members must be tolerant of this. No "that's so sick" stuff. This is probably a blanket statement for all fetishes, although I personally strongly dislike rape-fetish and rape-fic. Not a put down, just stating my opinion.
4) I'm not putting an age limit on this because maturity is more important than age, but I'm searching for peers. You don't have to be a college student, as I am, but I don't want to deal with childish antics, either. Because of certain subject matters, I say 17 is an ideal youngest age. Anyone younger will be accepted - although, if problems arise, I will start a "trial basis" membership.
5) While fanfics are fun and important, I don't want this to turn into a fic support list. If every other message is simply someone trying to get their story out in the open, well...there are other MLs out there dedicated to that. Don't let that stop you from occassionally posting stories, though!
6) Have fun! I want to make friends and tell stories, so I'm open to off-topic stuff, since there is no real topic. But not too much, ok? My life revolves around anime, manga, film, and gay guys, so it's pretty hard for me to go OT. Then again, that's why this is my list, ne?
