Akane's Lists:
Special Japan Edition 2

Random and spontaneous - my hit list, the top things I love and hate in the world. I'll update it at my leisure, when my current raging emotions change.

For something different, this time it's the Favorites/Least Favorites Lists!

The Favorites List

1) Anime Character - Temporary tie! Shinji and Arima! Woo hoo, boys, duke it out!

2) Japanese Food - Gyoza. They're these little pot-sticker or pork dumpling-like things that I LOVE. I give hugs for gyoza! Yay!

3) Japanese Restaurant - Mr. Donut. Ok, that's a stretch for a restaurant, but I am thoroughly addicted to their Old Fashioned donuts. I want to eat them all the time.

4) Japanese TV Program - The Hippare Live Show, on Saturdays at 10pm. On this program, the top pop songs of the week are covered by eveyone from rising stars and actresses to comedians and old pro wrestlers.

5) Japanese Comedy/Drama - Almost cheating, since I already said Favorite TV show, but this gets a special mention: Henshuu Ou (King of Editors), show on Tuesdays at 9pm. It focuses on a man I call the Japanese Jim Carrey, who is a former boxer currently working as a manga editor. The show deals with his daily struggles to help his collegues with their lives, produce a successful manga anthology, and date the pretty girls he meets. It's actually fantastic.

6) Japanese Band - Another tie, a bit of old school and new school, rock and pop. My rockers are the amazing B'z, akin in their longevity to a group like Aerosmith. They are awesomely talented, and rather sexy for middle-aged Japanese men. My pop babies are Doggy Bag, an unfortunately named group of 18 and 16 year old brothers. Their music is usually pretty good, and they are super super sexy. Ok, so I'm shallow. I'm allowed to be!

7) Japanese Comedian - Downtown! Actually, Downtown is a pair of guys (Ma-chan and Hama-chan! Sugoi!) from Osaka who are EVERYWHERE! I can't keep track of all their shows and specials. My favorites are HEY HEY HEY Music Champ and the Georgia Coffee commercials.

The Least Favorites List

1) Anime Character - TIE! Yurika and Ruri from Nadesico. Enough said.

2) Japanese Food - Probably curry. I just really hate most spicey foods, and it gets all over me when I eat. Although squid, octopus, and (temporarily) ramen tie for a close second.

3) Japanese Restaurant - Mos Burger. Yes, it tries hard, and has Western style toilets and passion fruit shakes, but it's simply too expensive for too little of an unknown meat product burger. Oh, well...

4) Japanese TV Program - I have to say it - Sumo or soccer. I dislike sports immensely, but these two take the cake. Sumo because it is dull to watch fat people shove each other, and soccer because my friends watch it too often and bore me. I guess those aren:t technically *programs*, but they are on a hell of a lot.

5) Japanese Comedy/Drama - The one with the two stupid J-pop guys working as EMTs. It:s just so STUPID! Argh! They try to much to combine slapstick humor and ER-style hospital tension. Just give it up!

6) Japanese Band - Morning Musume. They are the Japanese version of Menudo, and the epitome of evil. They cycle through band members faster than a gaijin can keep track. They currently have 10 members, ranging in age from 12 to 27. And they mainly promote the 12 and 13 year olds, who front most of their recent songs. And, yes, they sound like an elementary school chorus. They make me ill.

7) Japanese Comedian - Zenjiro. Ok, ok, that's not his real name, but I'm positive it's the guy Zenjiro from Kodomo no Omocha was based on. He isn't very funny, and he hosts this annoying show called "Much Ado About Love" that just annoys the crap out of me. And...those teeth! Argh!
