Yogurt and water are vigorously churned to make buttermilk, a delicious accompaniment to Indian meals. It is called Lassi in the north and mor or majige in the South. Tender coconut is available in plenty in the coastal areas and is consumed to beat the summer heat. Coffee is more popular in South India and Tea in North India. Indian Tea grown on the mountain slopes of Darjeeling, Munnar and Coonoor is exported the world over. Coffee is primarily grown in Karnataka.
Bottled fizzy drinks include various brands of lime, orange and cola. Other fruit based drinks - apple, guava, mango, and tomato - are available in tetrapacks and tins. India's alcoholic beverages include gin and rum, which are comparable to the finest internationally. Fenny, a cashew or palm extract is popular in Goa.
