Kashmiri EmbroideryEmbroided sarees often match the jewellery worn in splendor. These sarees express emotions, inducing grace and elegance. It is said that Noor Jahan, Queen of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan introduced chikan embroidery in Uttar Pradesh. Chikan embroidery involves minute stitches of the floral motifs. Some of the common chikan stitches are satin stitch, buttonhole stitch, dar stitch, and knot stitch, netting and applique work.

Embroidery done in metal wires by zari are famous. The heavier and elaborate sarees are referred as zardozi. Yet another style, the Kamdani, involves a lighter needlework done on lighter material, producing a glittering effect. Textiles woven in the Kamdani style are used as scarves, veils, caps etc.

Kashmiri embroidery is distinct. It involves chain stiches done on the Kurta worn by women. The neckline is heavy and elaborate, and matching smaller motifs are carried forward on the body of the Kurta.
