Thanjavur Painting
Thanjavur or modern Tanjore is famous for a special style of paintings that is done on glass and board. In this form of painting the figures and the background are richly embellished with gold leaf and precious gems. This form of art also makes use of plaster of Paris and glue.
Wall Painting
The paintings on walls have deeper themes. They constitute a form of visual education, from which one learns of one's heritage. The themes of wall paintings are often from epics and heroic tales. The wall paintings of Ajantha and Ellora are world famous. They depict the life of Gautam Buddha.
Madhubani
The wall paintings of Madhubani are the expressions of the women of Madhubani, State of Bihar. Madhubani paintings are lively compositions and depict Indian mythology. The Madhubani designs are even woven on silk and cotton sarees. Essentially these paintings have remained a folk art.
