Silence fell all around, dense, heavy, and all eyes were drawn towards Youko Kurama. Even Hiei stared at his partner displaying wide disbelief in his eyes. Kurama was in shock. He was paralyzed, his mouth open in surprise. He gulped, with a long, astonished stare fixed upon the golden kid.

No one was able to prevent Kinno from throwing himself into Kurama's static arms, and embracing him with a very dear grasp.

A murmur of shock arose from the unsettled crowd. The rustle of a nervous tattling echoed all around while the golden outcast cuddled Youko Kurama with a broad, bright smile.

Hiei reached out to give Kurama a small pull at the end of his tail, trying to call his attention, but it was no good at all. The tall, powerful Silver Youko just remained there, frozen, in  appalled shock. His breathing became short, his chest so tight it started to suffocate him. Kurama's brow was filled with droplets of a cold, nervous sweat, making his bangs stick to his skin. And yet, he didn't move. It was just like a statue made out of Youko Kurama, and not the real one....

Hiei faced his fox, baffled, uncertain about all that was happening. He started to worry about Kurama... His lover was tense, totally disturbed. His eyes darted all around, in a wide fright, as his high cheeks blushed with shame. His body was taut and his fingers clasped the air, trembling very lightly. And his lips, his pretty pinkish lips were half open, twitching in a mute stutter; his aversion seemed so intense he could not even speak...

Kurama was so much altered Hiei could only think of one thing - the golden youngster  was in real trouble.

Nevertheless, Kinno seemed so happy he could not see how close he was to danger. The golden youko just stood there, smiling in a silly, senseless way. He waggled his tail contentedly to one side and the other, in a fast succession, as he greeted  his father. He was not aware at all of  the consternation and scandal around.

"Daddy, I wanted to meet you so much!" He spoke contentedly again, his voice hoarse by a deep emotion as he patted Kurama's back and caressed his shoulder with his own golden, shiny head. "I heard so much about you, daddy... Will you take me to live with you in your castle?"

Then a low but intense sound of surprise was heard from all around, when Kinno dared to place a noisy smooch on Kurama's cheek. Such gesture seemed to be enough to rescue Kurama from shock. His golden eyes changed from fright into fury in a blink.

"Back off. You are not my son."

Hiei wanted to intervene, but Kurama would not give him the chance. It was his business, he should be the only one to deal with it. And to make it all very clear, the Silver Youko offered Hiei a side-glance, and his golden eyes twinkled with such anger and disgust that Hiei was the one to back off one, two steps, not Kinno.

The Golden Youko withdrew a little from Kurama, but he was still very close. He rested his hands on Kurama's broad shoulders, as their eyes met with intensity. Kurama's offended expression  making Kinno's face start to change from happiness into a sad, disappointed frown.

"But, daddy... Momma told me that you ..."

"Your Mother lied to you! I'm not your Father!" Kurama continued, raising his voice higher, and at the same time calling his you-ki together, creating an aura which enclosed him in a silvery, radiant glow.

The Golden Youko watched the glittering aura growing around his father, but  didn't retreat not even when the fuzzy vibration started to make his skin warm and tingling. He blinked, trying to insist on his plea, but the glow increased, bursting forth in a sudden release of  silvery light. Kinno was swept away; it was as if he had been caught and thrown off  by sudden lash of  whirlwind.

Kinno fell to the ground, some meters away. By then, the thrilled silence in the crowd was being replaced by an increasing tone of rumouring, sniggering and mockery, heard here, there, over there...

Hiei could not believe his eyes now... Kinno was smiling...Was he so dumb that he could not realize he had chosen the worse moment to approach Kurama? He tugged at his lover. It was time to intervene again; he could not allow his fox to risk hurting such a dumb, irresponsible kid. It was not his fault that he was so idiotic.

Kurama nodded, ready to sneak away, but they heard the kid's voice again.

"Daddy, You're really powerful, hn? Can you teach me this trick?"

Kurama stared very seriously at the boy, who was still sat on the ground, laughing as if it had been funny...

"Look, I'm gonna speak very slowly for you to understand..."Kurama announced, very aware Hiei was holding his hand so as to stop him from falling on the boy and strangling him to silence. "I - am - not - your - father. Now, go away!"

Then, Kurama's attention was called when one loud, nasty comment was heard above the youko crowd.

"Hey Kurama! The kid tramps all around Makai telling everyone he's your son!"

Another voice added in a cruel mocking tone.

"Was it you who taught the kid his profession, Kurama?"

Hiei made a scowl, just trying to identify the voices... Damned bastards - He still didn't grasp why those youko were so mean to the Golden kid. But now the mockery was directed at Kurama. - How dared them talk like that to his fox?"

"Are you working together now, Kurama?"

Hiei breathed deeply; he had to use all of his will power not to release his flames and start frying all those nasty youko...

"What are your plans Kurama? Help your son with his profession?"

Kurama stood very erect. He stared at each of his peers, one by one, with a very determined expression. He was infuriated, but he was also able to keep himself collected yet, with all dignity.

"This youko is a liar. I have never mated with any golden female Youko. I do not acknowledge him as my son."

Then Kurama turned his back to the sad-eyed young youko who had just stood up, shaking dust off himself. Kurama's face burned with shame, Hiei could perceive it very well. He blushed and his eyes were downcast, as he avoided everyone's stare. Hiei  caressed his lover's hand then, trying to offer him support.

But then the Fire youkai gazed at the beautiful, disappointed youngster.

"Kurama, are you sure the boy is not..."

"Take me from here, Hiei. I can't stand to be the laughingstock. We gotta find a den for the night."

      "And the boy?"

"He's not my son, Hiei. Forget him."

Kurama walked away then, pulling Hiei by his hand, forcing the youkai to join him. Hiei barely had the time to look over his shoulder. The youko kid was bravely facing one of those five youko he had been introduced to. He was defending Kurama, telling the youko to shut up and stop offending his father... A menacing circle was formed around Kinno, and yet he didn't relent his position. Hiei could hear his voice, a beautiful young voice, still bearing child-like tones, which sounded more and more urgent and needy as the distance between them increased..."Daddy! daddy! I wanna go with you!" Was what the boy yelled, desperatedly...

Hiei wanted to go and help Kinno out,  but Kurama pulled him away very forcibly. He acquiesced walking on, but his eyes were yet glimpsing the golden youko. Now, on second sight, he could not deny all the incredible similarities between that youko kid and Kurama. There must be some truth underlying Kinno's words, and it might take time, but he would dig it out completely.

But not now, there was nothing he could do. Kurama was too altered and the fire youkai didn't want to fight or argue with his dear lover. Kurama was jealous, irritated, vexed for being scorned by his own race... It was a very explosive mixture... Hiei could try to unveil the truth later - He knew a very good way to obtain any kind of truth he wanted from his fox...

Kinno tried to resist as much as he could. But he had to stand alone against all of them. He fiercely tried to rebuff all the insults and mockery aimed at both him and his daddy. Even though, three tall, strong youko grabbed him and dragged him vehemently off the convention borders.

The Golden youko yelled, kicked and struggled with will and emotion against the tight grip which held him, but he could not set himself free. They were three; moreover they were very ruthless, tough, big youko, and he had no way to fight against the harsh way they cast him out. He was determined and willing to fight, but he was just a kid - well-built, but still a kid.

Kinno still insisted on calling for his father, shouting out loud his story, but he had only mockery and clamorous laughter in return.

He was tugged away violently. Two of he bouncers dragged him by his arms, forcing him to walk the faster he could all the way back and out the gorge. They held him so tight by his wrists, with cruel, hard clenching fingers, they made his hands numb. The third agressor shoved him up, kicking his rear or pulling his tail every time he tried to protest.

Kinno cried, twitched, tried the best he could to struggle for freedom. But it was useless. And all the time those brutes called him names, mocking him and his pretense kinship with Youko Kurama.

Kinno insisted, even if every time he cried he was really Kurama's son, they hurt him more. One of them almost dislocated his arm with a tight lock, while the one at his back twisted and pulled his tail, making him wriggle and yell out in pain.

They kicked him through the gateway with a strong thrust, and Kinno crumpled to the hard, rocky ground on the other side of the fence.

"If you try to get in again, we're gonna cut your tail and ears off!" One of them shouted to Kinno, angrily. - It was a very tall, Brown Youko with an ugly scar across his face and he stared at Kinno with real bad intent.

The golden young youko sniffed, pulling himself away from them, crawling off the path.

"Go back to the brothel where you belong!" Another of the three bouncers added, violently.

Kinno chewed his lips, to prevent himself from answering back that insult. He knew they were just waiting for the slightest reaction on his part to beat the crap outta him.

"Get lost, Whore!" The third youko, a red one, wearing leather armour, uttered with a loud, brisk shout.

Kinno crawled to the edge of the path. Then he started to whimper softly, hiding his face with his right hand not to give those brutes the satisfaction of delighting at his sadness and pain. His left hand rubbed his own sore rear, kicked a dozen times while they dragged him off the Convention limits. But  it was all right, he could surpass it; he had had his ass kicked before - He would not give up just because of that.

      He just needed to wait.

He watched from the corner of his eye, those idiotic beasts leaving him there. And as they moved away he could yet hear their jeering comments, and the derisive laughter they shared.

He would gladly make them pay for all the mockery and the insults against him and his daddy. But he was too weak to try to do something. All that was left for him to do was to wait patiently till he could see his daddy Kurama again - his daddy would have to pass that gateway to leave the Gorge. And Kinno would be waiting there, with faithful patience, till the Convention was over.

He shook the dust off his tunic, and brushed his fingers along his hair, disentangling the golden strands. His silk fan was still tightly fastened on the his embroidered silk belt, as well as his leather pouch; empty, but at least it was there.

He had not lost anything, but his pride.

But he was accustomed to being treated like that.

Those stupid Youko were the ones to blame - His father obviously became embarrassed by all the fuss and mockery around. Kinno thought then that if he could talk to his daddy in private it would all work out fine between them.

Moreover, he had been very naughty - He had invited his daddy and his partner for a threesome! It had been a very stupid thing indeed!

He sat very quietly on a rock away by the edge of the gravel path, away from the entrance. He embraced his knees, keeping his head down, as he stifled the insistent urge to cry. He held it back with an obstinate effort. He must not cry. He'd have a new chance to talk to his daddy Kurama in some days - He just needed to stay around and wait...

He let out a bright smile, when he thought how beautiful his father was. Youko Kurama was a father he would always be proud of.

Kinno closed his eyes tight, thinking of all the legends he had been told about Kurama, the only youko who had been shot by a Spiritual Hunter and yet survived, who was cunning enough to fool all the Reikai and live in the Ningenkai for decades. He also recalled the few things his late mother had told him about his father. Kurama was proud, powerful, breathtaking, imposing... He was cold, cruel, but fair and loyal as well. It was on this sense of justice that Kinno counted in order to be welcomed.

He heard steps, calm, slow ones, coming from the gateway. For a moment his youko heart felt too agitated as he imagined it was his father coming to him, so they could talk one to one and set all things fine. He looked up, with a hopeful, beautiful smile, but it was not who he had wished for.

It was that same black youko who had talked to him not long ago.

Kinno sighed. The smile vanished from his pale face. Usually he'd greet any possible customer with an ardent glint in his eyes and the most seductive smile he could come up with. But not now - He was too sad, too disillusioned  to even try to disguise his true feelings.

The Black Youko was obviously powerful, and wealthy. He was all in black, and his movements and gestures were very calm, almost methodical. However, there was something in his half-smile which bothered Kinno. His job was a very risky one, but he knew not how to hunt, and could not summon any kind of plants. There were not many fruit bearing trees around; even then he was truly afraid to mistake edible and poisonous fruits - Kinno knew nothing about plants. In the end, It was better to think on his empty pouch and on his empty stomach and take the risk...

He'd better take the job and not complain, as he always did.

The youko eyed him so intensely, with such desire, that Kinno turned his eyes away, unable by all his sorrow to correspond that ardent stare. The black one crouched next to Kinno, and the kid quivered when he felt the heavy, broad palm caressing his hair and his back.

"Would you mind making me company now, kid?"

"No, O-nii-san. I'm here to serve you."

The Black Youko's hands slid from his back to his thighs. Kinno stretched his legs, parting them a bit, allowing the other to touch and evaluate the bulge in between his legs.

      "Are you alone here?"

      "Yes, O-nii-san."

"Poor cub... You shouldn't have entered the Convention like that. You were very lucky they didn't hurt you."

Kinno just nodded, observing with an unaltered face the fingers reaching up to touch his naked chest, testing the delicacy of his pink, small nipples. At least it was a youko. He had made it with very few of  his own race. They were usually old, perverted lone youko, so revolting that they had to pay for company. Mostly Kinno had his daily share of weird youkai races - He was fed up with horns, scales, tentacles and extra limbs. Not to mention the horror which was to kiss a tusked mouth...

At least that was an attractive youko.

"You're very pretty. Golden Youko are gorgeous and rare, and I have never seen one as attractive as you. Are you really Youko Kurama's son, kid?"

      "Yes, O-nii-san."

The black Youko grinned then, picking up one of Kinno's long braids,  playing with the beads interlaced along its strands.

"Will you charge me extra for that? Your father is such a legend... And now that he's turned to monogamy, we will never stand a chance with him again."

      "O-nii-san, I'm not cheap..."

The black youko ogled Kinno, rubbing an insistent palm up and down his muscled, beautiful thigh.

"Yes... I know... You're a very beautiful, very rare Golden Youko. I will pay your price. Come with me. If you're good to me and play the game I want you to, I'm gonna talk to Kurama and intercede in your favor."

When Kinno heard that his face brightened up again, and he showed all of his brilliant , golden beauty again as he smiled to the Black Youko, confidently.

"O-nii-san, I'm gonna be the best youko you ever lay with! I promise you! I'm gonna be very nice and kind and loving to you!" He added, gladly accepting the hand the youko offered him, so they could both stand up.

The Black Youko smiled to Kinno then, and placed his arm around he kid's slender waist, bringing him along, passing the wood's border and merging into the shadows among the trees and bushes.

"Are you hungry? Would you like to have something to eat?"

Kinno just nodded. And the Black Youko smiled back at him, but there was something weird underlying his grin - something Kinno would never be able to grasp; some mystery, some weird hidden intention, maybe even some malice....

But the naive Golden Youko let himself be taken away.

"I'm very hungry, O-nii-san. Thank you. I hardly find customers so kind to me as you are."

The adult youko stroked Kinno's rear, worming an impish hand under his tunic's hem, caressing his round, tender buttocks.

"I'm hungry too. And I must add I hardly meet gorgeous, delicious, succulent youko like you, my pretty goldie..."

Kurama had found them a very cozy, fresh den. It was in a hidden breach on a sheltered ledge on the cliff's slope, hidden by a boulder and high vegetation. They had to crawl into the narrow dwelling. To protect them even more from the other youko's great curiosity, Kurama summoned a roof of interlaced blooming berry shrubs, making  the plants enlarge and intertwine into a very thick and pleasing coverage.

It was a bit tight, but Hiei had never complained about being close to his fox, not even if  Kurama insisted on showing that bitchy mood...

They still had not exchanged any other word. Hiei had just followed his partner, giving up any intention of helping the youko youngster out. Living with Kurama Youko had taught him something rather valuable - He could not make his point by force; he had to get the upper hand by cunning. Tough as his cunning fox was, he had developed his own methods to charm Kurama into doing what he wanted.

He collected some berries, eating them, while watching his youko. Kurama created a very thick, fragrant bed of low-growing herbs, with leaves soft like velvet. Then he just moved to the deepest corner of the flourishing den, under Hiei's quiet, patient stare. The youko stripped off his gauzy clothes and lay on his back, still silent. He closed his eyes and hid his face against one of his forearms while he breathed long and deeply.

Hiei just observed, picking up some more berries to eat, quite aware of the youko's trick. Hiei knew he was not sleepy at all - It was just an excuse not to talk...

He grabbed another handful of fruit, ate, and started undressing too.

Then, instead of lying down next to the youko, Hiei placed himself on top of his body, and sat down, straddling his hips.

He seduced the big youko into lovemaking then.

Hiei had the youko made it to him once, twice, three ecstatic times in a row, each time with more abandonment and dedication than the previous one, till the tall, well-built silver youko became free of all the strain, and of all his worries. Hiei induced Kurama to love him till he could see a sated smile across the youko's pinkish lips again.

The Youko relaxed, his respiration transformed into a calm, faint breath, as his large body was loosened, lent to enjoyment; Yet Hiei insisted longer on soothing his fox's mood.  He made Kurama turn over. Then he mounted his hips again, picking up the long, soft brush of his tail very tenderly. He placed it across his lap, caressing and rubbing the fluffy fur with very slow, sliding movements, bringing his hands all along the bushy tail. His fingers held tight around his fox's brush just enough to knead the hard, warm flesh underneath all that silky softness, continuously..

Kurama gave out a long deep sigh of pleasure. He loved to be cared for in such way.

Then, Hiei let Kurama's tail rest right against his own groin, delighting in the tickling sensation caused by his lover's fur resting against his sex. He extended further to reach the youko's broad, pale shoulders. He moved the heavy, brilliant silvery mane of his partner to the side, to have free access to his muscled back. Hiei started to pinch the taut area between his fox's neck and shoulders. His hands were small but strong, and he began a very slow massage on the youko.

Kurama moaned under the delicious stimulation.

Good... The low, elated sound was proof that Kurama was ready to answer any question.

"Kurama... Why did that golden kid annoy you so much?" Hiei asked, out of the blue, making his delicious deep voice sound incredibly sexy on purpose.

He watched a brief shudder run along his youko's shoulders.

"I was jealous of you." Kurama spoke, very calmly.

"He's just a kid. But why did all the youko despise him so much? What's wrong with him?" Hiei continued.

Kurama kept his silence for a moment, but when Hiei started to press and massage his spine, with very fast fingertips patting way down the ridge, he just confessed, with a very sleepy, soft murmur.

"He's a youko prostitute. It's the meanest, the lowest condition a youko can reach. It's as bad as being a slave."

Hiei's eyes widened. Now he could even understand why Kurama was so jealous, so nervous... But yet...

"Kurama, Youko are so promiscuous... What's the problem?"

He fondled Kurama's waist then, and his hand came all way up his sides, rubbing small continuous circles to sedate his muscles. Kurama giggled, a bit tickled.

"He's a shame to all our race. We're promiscuous but we are free. We still have our freewill, our pride, our honor. That whore is just a despicable parody of a Youko."

Kurama wriggled a bit, starting to get tense once again.. Hiei could not yet understand.. He had heard so many legends about Youko promiscuity - The whole Makai had heard about their intense, maniacal sexual appetites, the innumerous lovers, the orgies, sexual slaves, seduction... Youko were notorious beings even in the Ningenkai. Hiei loved his silver youko; Kurama was dear and faithful,  but he had to admit all other youko were wanton, dissolute, immoral...  So what was wrong if the golden kit made a living out of it?

"Kurama, I don't understand. The kid just made a job out of what youko do for fun."

Hiei continued relaxing Kurama's muscles, his hands rubbing harder along his loins, and his own thighs insinuatingly sliding along Kurama's behind as he moved forward and back to apply that slow kneading on his partner.

"This is the problem. A Youko is a free spirit, he is licentious by his or her own freewill, not because he needs the pay in order to survive.  An honourable youko will never sell any part of himself - It's against our code of honor. We're free, and to have one of us selling his body and his sexual favours around for the lowest price is an insult to our whole race."

Hiei had to bite his lower lip not to laugh; that was so ridiculous!

"It means if a Youko fucks the entire Makai for free, and for fun, he's the most honourable hero, but if he gets paid  in exchange for his favours he's a pariah?"

Kurama sighed again, almost lured to sleep by the delicate but vigorous massage.

      "Yes, my Fire Youkai..."

Hiei shook his head, pissed about it all - Then the golden youko had been so mistreated because of that?

"I've heard of many absurd things in my lifetime, but this is the most absurd ever!"

Kurama turned over, drooping Hiei to the floor. The silver youko shifted, moving to lie on his back so he could gaze at the small half-koorime, very intensely.

"It's Youko's customs. You don't want to discuss how absurd Koorime traditions are, do you?"

Kurama had not played fair. To talk anything about his koorime inheritance was just like reaching mining ground in their relationship; the youko aspect of his lover could be very mean and spiteful when he wanted. Shuuichi Minamino would never tell him anything like that.

Hiei stared angrily at his lover, showing all his dissatisfaction with that troublesome comment.

"What do your youko peers think of you then?"

      "Me? Why?"

"Our union offends the Youko code of honor. Now you are not free to go around Makai fucking whoever you wish to."

Kurama offered Hiei a wicked half-smile.

"I'm Youko Kurama, not a dim-witted youko kid like that one. I reached a point of making my own rules. All in all, monogamy is not classified among Youko as an insult to our tradition - It's viewed more like stupidity."

Hiei mumbled a low curse. He chewed his lips, unwilling to argue any longer. But yet, there was something he wanted to know. That kid; Kinno... He looked too much like Kurama - exactly like father and son should.

"Is that golden kid your son, Kurama?"

Kurama showed a face altered with shock and sudden disbelief.

"I can't be sure, Hiei. I can't track down all the stray kids I must have scattered around the Makai!"

"Yes, I know. You have been very promiscuous, as any Youko should, haven't you?"

"Hiei that kid is lying! He's just a digger!"

"Oh, yeah? He looked pretty sure of what he was talking about. He didn't seem to be clever enough to make up a story like that."

Hiei stood up, keeping his back turned to Kurama. Then he started dressing up again, while a bothered silence fell between the two demon lovers.

The Fire demon finished buckling his belts, then he threw his cloak onto his shoulders with a wide move, and picked up the katana he had placed in a corner. He stared at Kurama defiantly then, waving him a brief, almost imperceptible good-bye.

      "Where are you going, Hiei?"

"I need to listen to the other side of the story..."
