The 64th High Priest of Nichiren Shoshu, Mizutani Nisshoo...

The 64th High Priest of Nichiren Shoshu, Mizutani Nisshoo, had a sexual
relationship with his daughter. When the scandal was disclosed, he dismissed
the witness (a senior priest) and married his daughter off in great haste.

In a different incident, a Taisekiji priest, Kawada Toshimitsu, committed
suicide over the anguish of Nisshoo's affair with Toshimitsu's wife.

The great-grandfather of the present Nikken, (the 57th High Priest, named
Abe Nisshoo) died of cancer of the tongue. In fact, he went quite mad, and
died without any so-called "succession" ceremony.

There are only about three or four family names among the various high
priests of Nichiren Shoshu in the last century: Abe, Hori, Mizutani, and
Suzuki. This indicates that the postion of High Priest in Nichiren Shoshu is
constantly vied for by these family dynasties.

Abe Nikken's father had the 58th High Priest, Nitchu, impeached and removed
from the position of High Priest. ( a real "coup d'etat'). Thereafter, the
59th High Priest , Hori Nikkyo, became Abe Nikkai's rival. After along
series of bitter acrimonies, Hori Nikkyo "retired" (i.e. was forced out by
Abe Nikkai). Abe Nikkai (Nikken's father) became the 60th High Priest.

When one learns of the truly seamy side of Nichiren Shoshu High Priests, it
makes Nikken's romp with a couple of prostitutes in Seattle in 1963 seem
tame. More importantly, the stories about Nikken hurling frying pans at the
heads of junior priests or screaming uncontrollably during meetings are
disturbing, because it shows an unbalanced and volatile personality. A tape
recording was leaked, wherein Nikken said: "I don't care about what happens
to the faith of the members of the Soka Gakkai." (This was just before the
SGI was excommunicated) "All you have to do is intimidate them." Not a very
compassionate statement.

The Abe's (Nikken and his wife ,who has the reputation of spending
exorbitant amounts of money) disclosed plans in 1991 to build a 2 billion
yen mansion in Meguro, Tokyo, that would include a swimming pool in the
basement. Not the lifestyle of a simple religious priest.

The Ita Honzon (dai-gohonzon) is not answering these priest's prayers. Seems
more like punishment for distorting the Lotus Sutra and the words of
Nichiren.
