Andy and Mai
My oh My

"Poor princess in a terrible mess; A kingdom alone but no lovers confess Dreams of prince on a tall white horse; It runs like a spirit by the castle walls Misery deep in the royal heart, cryin' at night Why must we be apart? Prince oh prince are you really sincere... That you one day are gonna disappear? Gotta steal from the rich when they don't know we're comin' Gotta give to the poor no time for lovin' My oh My don't you cry 'cause there's no way i'm stayin' Gotta leave say bye bye i'm goin' my way. My oh my... If you were my king I would be your queen If you were my king I would be your queen"

Andy

"Why me?"
Andy was orphaned as a young boy and he and his older brother, Terry, both vowed to become as great martial artists as their father had been. As well as being trained in the traditional Bogard family styles (under Masters Jubei and Tung) with his brother, Andy trained in Japan under Master Hanzou Shiranui. Master Shiranui was Andy's mentor and he was quite attached to the old man, holding a photograph of himself with his Master as one of his most significant possessions. Master Shiranui also had a young grandaughter, Mai Shiranui, who grew quite enamored of her grandfather's star student.
Andy is a serious young man and for much of his young life he had one goal, to avenge his father's death. Although Andy had real feelings for Mai, he felt he had to travel his destined path alone. He left Japan without a word to Mai or anyone else; he believed he was protecting them. It was Terry, not Andy, who finally exacted revenge for their father, though Andy was vital to the outcome; Andy returned to Japan determined to better himself.
Mai found Andy soon after his return and demanded an explanation - leaving without a word, gone for SO LONG, not even a phone call when he's finally returned. In the time they'd been apart, Mai had grown even more attached to her quiet, serious suitor and decided to call him her fiancee, much to Andy's bewilderment and chagrin. Despite his carefully shielded emotions, though, Andy clearly cares for Mai and the instant she's in danger he races to her rescue.

Mai

"That man infuriates me! But I do love a strong man!!"
Mai is the infamous bouncy ninja girl...but she has a lot more depth of character than many give her credit for. Mai is absolutely devoted to Andy, she honestly adores him. And she will not take no for an answer! Mai is in complete control of the relationship and she has the wherwithal to force it to move forward...while deflecting Joe's catty comments, not to mention huge German lackeys, effortlessly. Mai is aggressive and confident and seemingly without fear.
One of Mai's greatest strength lies in her ability to love Andy unconditionally. She forgives him his faults and understands his weaknesses, and she sees beyond his shield to the man hidden below who so needs her. Mai's adoration for Andy is hardly one sided but it shines brightest encompassing the two of them in its beauty.

Mai and Andy are the cutest couple in anime - and certainly in fighting games. Mai's dizzy adoration and Andy's stoic regard are so perfectly mismatched it's classic. Sometimes Mai's devotion seems misplaced...but then Andy's sweet side comes out and his deep affection for the girl is revealed. And when Mai is under attack, Andy never hesitates to come to her aid. When he is defeated by a masked cassanova who forces Mai to kiss him, Andy distances himself from everything but his practices, determined to correct a mistake Mai already forgave. Andy does save her the second time around, and the love with which he possessively holds her afterwards is all the proof of the depth of his feelings needed. The sweet, virginal, caring love shared between Andy Bogard and Mai Shiranui is to be applauded.
