Introduction to Sailor Moon

Sailor Moon is a Japanese cartoon, or anime, that focuses on the lives of some Japanese girls in secondary school who are super heroes. The first series, Sailor Moon, highlights the adventures of the five inner scouts. Sailor Moon, also known as Serena, or Tsukino Usagi, is the leader of the group. The other inner scouts are Sailor Mercury (Amy, or Mizuno Ami), Sailor Mars (Raye, or Hino Rei), Sailor Jupiter (Lita, or Kino Makoto), and Sailor Venus (Mina, or Aino Minako). Luna, a black cat, is the guardian of Sailor Moon; and Artemis, a white cat, is Sailor Venus' guardian cat. These cats are both unusual as they can talk, and they have a little crescent moon symbol on their foreheads. Darien, or Mamoru, is Tuxedo Mask, who almost always arrives at a battle to help out the Sailor Scouts. The scouts fight against agents from the Negaverse (Jedite, Zoisite, Nephrite, and Malachite), and their evil leader, Queen Beryl. At the end of this series, Sailor Moon defeats Queen Beryl using the Imperium Silver Crystal.

The second series, Sailor Moon R, starts with the arrival of a new enemy - Ann and Alan, two aliens who try to find energy to feed to their Doom Tree using Cardigans to find humans to drain energy from. Halfway through this series, the Sailor Scouts defeat Ann and Alan. Next, the series introduces the character Rini, or Chibi-usa, who is discovered to be Sailor Moon's future daughter. Rini traveled into the past to help save her mother, as Crystal Tokyo is facing many problems in the future. Sailor Pluto is also introduced in this series, as the keeper of the gates of time. Their new enemies include four sisters who offset the four inner scouts (minus Sailor Moon), and the Dark Moon family: Rubeus, Emerald, Sapphire, and Prince Diamond, with his advisor the Wise Man.

The third series is Sailor Moon S, introducing two new scouts, Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune, who are searching for three talismans found in the pure hearts of three people. The Scouts fight against a group called the Deathbusters, who use daimons made by Professor Tomoe to extract pure hearts from innocent people. Professor Tomoe's daughter is Tomoe Hotaru, who is later discovered to be Sailor Saturn.

The fourth series, Sailor Moon SuperS, principally features Chibi-Usa, who is also a Sailor Scout, Sailor Chibi-Moon. The Scouts' new enemy is the Dead Moon Circus.

The final series is called Sailor Stars, and brings in three new sailor scouts called the Sailor Starlights. In this series, the scouts fight against Sailor Galaxia.

Sailor Moon is a relatively popular tv show in the United States and other countries as well as Japan, and there are many websites that focus on this show. DIC has made the translated American version of Sailor Moon. There are also two English cds that are currently available with music from the North American tv show.
