Ayashi No Ceres
Yuu Watase, Flower, 14
Yuu Watase is a very succesful author; she wrote Fushigi Yuugi, and than this one. Since she writes in ShoComics, she tends to write stuff that's a bit etchi, and this one is quite etchi. The story is about a pair of twins, Aya and Aki. On their 16th birthday, Aya gets her fortune told, and is told that horrible things will soon happen. Later they are called in to a party with their family. At the party, Aya's family does something to them that makes it so Aki (a boy) gets a weird reaction. They then try to kill Aya, saying that they have the blood of a Tennyo ("Heavenly woman") in them, and that it's too strong in Aya. As such, it would bring them down. Aya then transforms, and starts releasing this side of her, called Ceres. The story then follows what happens to Aya, especially as she meets Tooya, a mysterious man hired to kill her, but who ends up protecting her, and Yuuhi, a boy who takes her in on the word of his sister, who has Tennyo in her, too.
Watase's style is usually fairly pretty, and this is no exception. However, I feel that the artwork begins to get a bit weird and disproportionate later on, and I can't say I really like it -- its somehow different from the style in her other works, and what it lacks seems to be an important factor in why the other ones look so pretty. Personally, I wouldn't recommend this series; the story gets too convuluted, and I would have ended it much earlier on. As it were, it got too pulled out and I just found myself confused and bored with it.
