Please Save My Earth is probably one of the most intricate anime there is . The story, as well as the quality of the artwork, is great; the music-- absolutely haunting. It's about love, reincarnation, and a special group of people whose dreams cross each other's paths. The group consists of Jinpachi, Issei, Alice, Daisuke, Haruhiko, Rin, and Sakura. The story mainly concerns Alice Sakaguchi, Rin Kobayashi, and probably Haruhiko Kosama. PSME is unlike the usual "fairy-tale"-type series and gives you a wonderful combination of what makes a good anime series. At first when you watch it, it seems as if you're not going to get "into" the OAV-series, but soon enough you get sucked into each person's stories and it gets real intense. And VERY CONFUSING.
The anime has two timelines, one of the past and the present. It occasionally switches back and forth. In the past, you see a woman and a man looking at the earth, from what seems to be a spaceship. An important event takes place then that stays in the memories of their reincarnated present selves. The people in the present have a vague memory of it and they come together as a group to try to solve it out.
Alice is the main character. She is a teenager like the rest of the group who has a special connection with plants and animals. She dreams of past romantic incidents of a woman and a sleek black-haired man. She doesn't know it, but the dreams reflect the occurences of her past self. She is the reincarnation of Mokuren, the lady in her dream. Occasionally Alice babysits Rin, a young (7-8 yr old--I forget) purple-haired boy who has a crush on her. Although he treats her badly, she still babysits him and hangs around him. For some strange reason, she feels a connection to him. Mostly throughout the series, she has no idea about what's actually happening, which makes her appear very naive. Sorry, but to say it blundtly, she is ONE CLUELESS GIRL.
Rin likes to pick on and bully Alice. He is, at first, evil and ill-mannered to everyone (especially to Haruhiko), but less so to Alice and his parents (..eh..sometimes). He has the powerful ability to levitate and destroy things and uses his power against Haruhiko. So why does Rin have this major grudge against Haruhiko? Perhaps it has something to do with the past.. (Personally, I hate Rin's guts, but other people may think differently...) EVIL! EVIL LITTLE BOY!
Haruhiko is a teenager who is another reincarnation of someone. He knows all about what happened to him and the group in the past and knows why Rin holds such animosity towards him. Because of his heart condition, he is one year behind the rest of the group. There is a very slight, (and I mean very slight) romantic conflict with him over Alice and Rin, but nothing major. Haruhiko's involvement in the story mainly concerns Rin. He feels guilty about the past incidents because it was his old self that did the wrong-doing. He has similar powers as Rin, but does not know how to harness it yet. Haru is pretty much a good guy in the story except for that mysterious little deed, but he is forever guilt-ridden, crying a lot over it and tries to repent for his wrong-doings. Personal input: I just think Haru is SO HOT!! But he's such a baby! I mean, GET OVER IT!!
PSME is a wonderful OAV-series. I've watched the whole thing (dubbed) and the voices are actually quite good. The music is in japanese, but the lyrics are translated at the bottom of the screen. PSME gives a good mix of drama, love, action, and the unknown. There are some deep violent scenes that can make it unbearable for younger viewers, but the scenes themselves play an important role in the series. It is a very deep series with no comedy involved. Just a few problems. One is that the ending leaves you hanging and wanting for more. I won't tell you the specifics. Another problem is the attitude of all the characters. I mean.. it's the past.. GET OVER IT ALREADY!! All the characters seem to be hung up on the past and stop living in the present. The past just seems to bring them down and leave them tied up. Otherwise, PSME is highly recommended to you sci-fi drama lovers.
SPOILER: If you want to know what happened to few of the characters afterwards, go ahead. But don't read if you plan to watch the OAV or read the manga... just read this afterwards. Not much of a spoiler though...

Here it is!I know what happened to the characters afterwards and personally, I dislike the ending because I favor Haruhiko over Rin (*hint hint*). Anyway, if you're sweating over what happened after the ending, Rin and Alice get married when they're older and have a baby Rin. Sakura and Issei get married despite Issei's reincarnated feelings for Jinpachi. Aww! I think Jinpachi's still clueless about Issei's internal problems. Anyway, I'm not sure what happened to the rest of the characters, though.
