Shinji is the Third Child and the pilot of Eva-01. His mother died when he was very little and lived apart from his father,Gendou. He was brought to meet his father in Tokyo-3 when he was 14 and hasn't seen his father for 10 years of his life. He was chosen to be a pilot for Eva-01, and at first he didn't want to. Shinji goes through a lot of struggles and pain throughout the series. Shinji is very quiet. He also doesn't know much about his father, Gendou. Gendou is also the Head Commander of NERV. He also has a guardian, Kutsargi Misato.
