Meredith Ann Pierce has written few books but they are ones that have captured my thoughts. The Darkangel was the first book I read of hers, and it has stayed in my mind since my friend Alexis recommended it to me when we were in high school.
The Darkangel is a vampyre, one who feeds on the souls of mortals, because he has no soul. But he is not complete, needing to collect fourteen mortal souls in order to become a true vampyre. One day he decides to take the soul of Eoduin, to whom Aeriel is a servant. Aeriel dares to go after the Darkangel to rescue Eoduin and thus begins a journey of self-discovery, humanity, and mortality. The Darkangel is the first book in The Darkangel Trilogy, which I believe will be republished as a three-in-one volume in Spring 1998. The trilogy consists of The Darkangel, A Gathering of Gargoyles, and The Pearl of the Soul of the World.
In searching around for other pages about Meredith Ann Pierce on the web, I discovered a Japanese student's page which had the cover of The Darkangel.
I have been unable to find much about her or her books. She has written other books, including Birth of the Firebringer and Dark Moon, which are books one and two of The Firebringer Trilogy, and The Woman Who Loved Reindeer.
Update: October 30, 1998
Well, due to a lack of time (and money) to visit a bookstore, I'm not
really sure how along The Darkangel Trilogy is being reprinted. I did get
the reprint of The Darkangel, but have not been able to read it.
Also, I discovered that the thrid book in The Firebringer Trilogy had been
published two years ago. It is called The Son of Stars, and I
unfortunately haven't had time to read it yet. Hopefully soon.
Update: November 14, 1999
After nearly a year, I finished buying the reprints of The
Darkangel, A Gathering of Gargoyles, and The Pearl of the
Soul fo the World. The covers are rather flat, but richly
colored. At least, however, I finally have a complete set. Now I'm just
waiting to see if she'll write anything else in the meantime.
