Sven was the Norwegian pilot of the Blue Lion that was injured halfway through the first season. Sven then stayed with the freedom force and among other things,
helped destroy one of Zarkons ships carrying 500 robeasts that would have overpowered Voltron, without the help of his lion or anyone else. Hats off to Sven for saving the Voltron
force! He was replaced by Princess Allura for reasons unknown to me (I liked Sven a lot better).
