The Bus's Transit of Anime Realities

Review | Webring

The Tenchi midi is from Little Washu's Media Archive

How can I explain why I went and purchased this video. I probably would have purchased this earlier, but it just seemed to crazy. Just look at the characters. I found my theory to be true, but this is what helps make the movie, so much fun. Combined with the fact it tries to be an epic which it does succeed with but you are amazed how it is done because of its comedy. It ends up being very addicting.

Review for Tenchi The Movie: Tenchi Muyo! in Love

Tenchi and the girls are watching some home movies of his father which feature Tenchi's mom, Achika. Suddenly his mother disappears from the film and Tenchi is shot through the room before a electrical net catches him that was laid out by "the most brilliant mind in the galaxy" Ms. Washu. She shows the group the film which confirms that something has happened back in 1970 to Atchaka which prevent Tenchi from being born. At the same time, Class A Criminal Kain has escaped Galaxy Police HQ into the space time continueum which destroys the head quarters. His motive, to go back in time and kill the next in the bloodline of the Terai family which in 1970 is Achika.

How Spielburgian. Yeah if you've seen any time travel films made in the 80's or 90's you're familiar with the plot, but with characters like this, its seems to be entirely new. The comedy is pretty much none stop till the climax which kind of makes the ending dull, but is still able to keep sci-fi fans interested by making it so the plot is always being built on. The animation and art is great and it doesn't stoop to forshadowing the next generations like James Cameron's second best film Titantic (The Terminator is his best. Ofcourse there is no Billy Zane in that film or DeCaprio). Now the soundtrack has gotten a lot of attention, but its the weakest thing in the film. Tenchi The Movie also allows people who aren't familiar with the series know what's going on, so this means you don't have to buy every episode of the series to be familiarized with the characters. There is indeed better anime movies, Akira (no shi*), Macross Plus, Armitage III, but this is extremely entertaining and it the type film you'll watch over and over again. If your interested in Tenchi series or not, it's still a great anime for anyone.
