Wind and Cloud
aka
the stormriders
~the movie~
Gee, this page has been long overdue. Wonder if the movie's still showing
at the cinema. Oh, well, perhaps you could just read my comments out of
curiousity.
My friend Zhiyuan wrote this really
loooong review, do read it too, think it's a lot more comprehensive
than this short review of mine.
If you still can't get enough of Fengyun, click here to read interesting stuff about the filming of The Stormriders.
Major blockbuster movie starring:
Noodle Cheng(Ekin Cheng) as Wind, Aaron Kwok as Cloud, Sonny Chi-ba (the Japanese)as Xiong-ba, Micheal Tse(Xie Tian Hua) as Frost, Kristy Yeung, Zheng Danrui, Lai Yaoxiang, ShuQi and a Fire Kirin.
The review:
The filming of "The Stormriders"
was shrouded in much mystery, and media reports abounded with tales of
intense rivalry between the two male leads, Well, riding high on that tsunami
of media hype, it has finally crashed into sunny Singapore...
Many have hailed this as a milestone in Hongkong cinema, because of its heavy use of CG special effects. But that's about the only reason to watch this movie, other than curiosity, for those who've read the comic. For all the brouhaha about it, it's actually quite a big disappointment, for me at least.
The script was quite terrible, the acting nondescript(perhaps due also the the lack of range of character emotions). The scenery was beautiful though, likewise the sets and the costumes, and helped to stave off boredom for the first hour or so. I can't remember how long exactly the movie was, but it seemed to be endless, as i fidgeted in my seat and glanced repeatedly at my watch, not to mention the mourning of my loss of my $7 bucks.
Then again, to risk contradicting myself, the movies' really not as bad as i made it out to be. I'm somewhat overly-critical...but i haven't met anyone who really loves the show. It does have its funny moments, though one suspects they weren't really meant to be, like when JianSheng (sword god) appears, everyone burst into laughter, no thanks to his silly costume, make-up, and seriousness.Or when KongCi told BuJingYun that "I can still be with you even if I'm married to NieFeng" Geez. Oh yeah, and kudos to ShuQi for providing much needed comic relief as the ditzy ChuChu.
Well, all in all, i give it 2-and-a-half crabs.
