Ranma 1/2 Manga Summaries

Ranma Group Pic, #3

Vol. 1 (Red Cover):

The Tendo dojo gets plenty of surprises in one day when a panda and a girl show up instead of Soun Tendo's old friend Genma and his son Ranma. There's more to this panda and the girl than they think, though, as Akane finds out when she walks in on the "girl", who somehow changed to a boy, in the shower! Is this really Ranma Saotome, the guy that she's supposedly engaged to? It's certainly not Akane's idea of a fiancee....
Second Part: Ranma and Akane go off to their first day together at Furinkan High school, but as Ranma's going to find out, it's not exactly your normal school - especially when a bokken-wielding, poetry-spouting student is the voice of influence. And if you thought it was bad enough for the male Ranma dealing with Tatewaki Kuno, just wait until he encounters the female Ranma...
Third Part: All of these fights with Kuno (and sometimes Akane) has Ranma being practically a regular at the local chiropractic clinic run by Dr. Tofu. Ranma finds out about Akane's feelings for the good doctor, but as Akane is well aware of, Dr. Tofu is head-over-heels in love with someone else, who just happens to be on her way to the clinic! Ranma is about to find out the hard way that love can make even the best doctors act like total fools...
Fourth Part: Things actually seem to be settling down a bit in Nerima. The hordes of boys have stopped chasing Akane, Kuno isn't attacking male Ranma all that often, and believe it or not, Akane and Ranma seem to be getting along. However, the peace doesn't last long as an old rival of Ranma's shows up to settle the score. Ryoga Hibiki's horrible sense of direction may make him seem like he's an idiot, but his brute strength and skill are easily equal to Ranma's. Ranma has to defend himself against the Eternal Lost Boy, even if Ranma's "secret" becomes known to him in the process. Unfortunately, the only loser of this battle happens to be Akane, who is robbed of something very important to her...
Fifth Part: Akane's loss finally gets her to accept the fact that Dr. Tofu loves someone else, and a new day seems to have begun for her. Ranma, on the other hand, secretly realizes that this new Akane, both physically and spiritually, might actually be cute...

Vol. 8 (Dark Turquiose Cover):

Meet Ukyo Kuonji, a new student at Furinkan High. Where did Ukyou come from, and why is Ukyou after Genma and Ranma with a vengeance? Ukyo beats up Genma, and then goes after Ranma with a grudge that goes all the way back to Ranma's early childhood, when Ukyo was robbed of honor by the unknowing Ranma. A match on a giant hotplate is only the beginning of Ranma's troubles, but there's definitely more to Ukyo Kuonji than you think!
Second Part: Ukyo tries to set Ryoga and Akane up for a date in the hopes that they'll hit it off and she can have "Ran-chan" all to herself. The plot doesn't necessarily go as planned however, and things get worse when a jealous Ranma disguises him/herself as...Ryoga's fiancee? On top of all that, a lake of cold water isn't the best place for Ryoga to be in a situation like this...
Third Part: Ranma and co. decide to go take a vacation on the beach and just relax for awhile, but when Happosai gets a hold of a treasure that has three magic pills on it, the whole female cast better watch out. You see, each of the three pills, when taken, causes the user to fall in love with the first person of the opposite sex they see. One pill's effect lasts a few minutes, another a day, and the last, a lifetime. Because Ranma actually happens to fall in love with Cologne, of all people, after accidentally taking one of the pills, the pills' effects are proven to be true. It'a race to see who can take advantage of the pills as Happosai, Shampoo and Ranma all try to get the precious treasure for themselves...
Fourth Part: Akane's accidentally swallowed one of the pills, and without knowing which pill it is, yet! Ranma's got to keep Akane from looking at any men until a cure can be found. Fate seems to almost work against Ranma, though, when practically the entire major male cast come looking for Akane. Ranma better find a way to cure Akane, even if it means getting her to fall in love with him...
Fifth Part: Akane's new stuffed pig gets kidnapped by a returning Mousse, and at the same time, Ranma, Akane, and Shampoo are mysteriously invited to the circus to watch a familiar looking duck perform some magic tricks. It soon turns out that Mousse has acquired his own Jusenkyo curse, and is threatening to use the cursed waters on a captive Akane, unless Ranma comes in time to save her...

Vol. 9 (Yellow-Green Cover):

Ranma has to save Akane before Mousse can turn her into a duck with the "Yazuniichuan" cursed spring water. Little does Ranma know that Mousse has set a trap for Ranma to splash him, instead! And when Akane supposedly gets hit with the water and turns into a duck, Ranma's really going to be in trouble...
Second Part: Ranma has outsmarted Mousse again in his attempts to get Shampoo's attention away from him. Akane, pitying Mousse, tells Mousse to challenge Ranma again, and guarantees a win for him. And when Shampoo agrees to date with Mousse if he beats Ranma, Akane's plan goes into action. All Ranma has to do is lose on purpose......but little do they know that Shampoo has her own plans for the fight....
Third Part: There's a new person in town - Tsubasa Kurenai, the master of camouflage and the one who was after Ukyou's heart when she was posing as a boy back at her old school. Tsubasa has finally caught up with the okonomiyaki chef, but when Tsubasa finds out that Ukyou is "engaged" to the female Ranma, she challenges female Ranma to a cuteness contest to see who gets to have Ukyou. It's strange that Tsubasa doesn't like men, and keeps after Ukyou even when clearly shown that Ukyou is female. However, as Ranma and Akane are about to find out, there's more to this new suitor of Ukyou's than meets the eye!
Fourth Part: When Ryouga finds out that his dog Checkers has had puppies, he has the sudden need to find his way home right away, especially since Akane asked to come over to see them! Ryouga has to enlist the help of Ranma, who took him home a lot when they were in junior high, in order to get himself home so he can finally be alone with Akane. But when Ranma finds out what Ryouga's true intent was in bringing him home, he has to make sure Ryouga and Akane aren't left alone...even if it means masquerading as the Lost Boy's supposed long-lost sister!
Fifth Part: Happosai gets angry at Soun, Genma, and Ranma, and decides to unearth a long-buried scroll containing one of his ultimate techniques - the "Happo Daikarin", or "Happo Fire-Burst". With it, he can finally take his revenge on his three disciples. However, the scroll happens to be buried near a women's hot spring, and now it's a race between Happosai and the team of Soun, Genma, and Ranma to get the scroll. Let's just hope they'll be able to read the master's horrible handwriting....
