A MATCHMAKER IN TOKYO - Epilogue
(Philippines. Aisa and Laila exit Comic Quest, where dozens of males and females are jostling
each other to reach the counter. The harried clerk returns from the storeroom, his arms heaped
with copies of the just-released 39th volume of Ranma 1/2 graphic novels.)
LAILA: (to Aisa) Wow! Rumiko Takahashi must be really happy about the success of her newest book,
even though it has been years since she ended the series.
AISA: (glowing) Yeah, it's really great, huh? Even I'm surprise at how well-received it's been. I
guess it just goes to show that there are a lot of fans like me out there, who've longed to see a
resolution to all those conflicts going on.
LAILA: (shaking head)I can't believe you pulled it off! And no one else will either, even if you
do show them your original first-off-the-press copy that's autographed by the author.
AISA: I know, but who cares??? I've really done something important.
LAILA: Tell me again about the stuff not in the book.
AISA: What? There's not much to tell. They got married a few days afterward in a traditional
Japanese wedding ceremony, which lasted several hours, but I didn't hear anyone complaining.
And before I left, the complete set of characters all signed their names on the largest wooden
board Genma could find.
LAILA: That's so cool! And to think Ranma and Akane are married at last!
(They exit the mall and are on the sidewalk, when they hear a yell coming from behind them.)
VOICE: Wait, Aisa my love!
(Their mouths drop open when they see what looks to be Kuno carrying a bouquet of roses
hurriedly cross the street, only to be hit by a passing car.)
VOICE: Oof!
(He feels to his knees, and they lose sight of him. Aisa and Laila both stare at each other.)
LAILA: It couldn't be...could it?
AISA: (shaking head vigorously) Nah! H-He's just a manga character after all. (swallows hard)
LAILA: But you crossed over to their world! Do you think they can do...vice versa?
AISA: No way! (tries to laugh) Besides, Nabiki said she'd keep an eye on him, so you can be sure
she'd never let him out of her sight!
LAILA: Oh right! ..... Wait, what if Nabiki's here too?
ANOTHER VOICE: (from behind but very close) Excuse me, ladies, I think there's a money matter
between us that still needs to be settled.
(Both stop in their tracks. The hair on their necks rise.)
== End ==
NOTE: So this is the conclusion of the "A Matchmaker in Tokyo" series. I sure had a lot of fun
writing them, for (hehe) obvious reasons. I'm just hoping you don't think me too much of a
narcissist in inserting myself into Ranma and Akane's world. You can be sure I'll never dare do
it again! :o) So long and till the next one... Sayonara!
