Fushigi Yuugi
Fushigi Yuugi tells the story of Miaka, a junior high school student drawn into an ancient Chinese book. Once inside the book, Miaka finds out she is a legendary Miko (priestess), and must unite the seven Seishi (constellations) of Suzaku to save Konan country. From this point on, things start to get complicated. Each Seishi is a legendary warrior with incredible powers, and the series has some pretty spectacular fights and stunts. Fushigi Yuugi goes to 52 episodes, and has spawned several OAVs.
Jonathan- So what did you guys think of Fushigi Yuugi?
Brendan- I though it was really good in the beginning, and lost something towards the end.
Yari- I’d agree with that.
Jonathan- I thought it lagged a little bit towards the end, but the last few episodes were good.
Brendan- The very end was good, it was just that there were six or ten episodes were it seemed like things were dragging on and on.
Jonathan- Yeah, sometimes you get that with such a long series. I though the ending was a bit too pat...
Brendan- I thought the battle scenes were good though.
Yari- I thought the characters were great.
Kerrie- Yeah, the characters were awesome!
Brendan- Suzaku’s Seishi got the worst powers...
(general agreement)
Jonathan- What about the music?
Kerrie- I liked the music a lot!
Brendan- I loved it!
Jonathan- I liked it enough to get a CD of it...
Brendan- I like all anise music.
Jonathan- Was the art quality decent?
Everyone- Yes!
Jonathan- Was it consistent?
Yari- It got better towards the end.
Kerrie- Yeah, it did.
Jonathan- Did it?
Yari- They reused a lot of stuff, that’s what they did.
Kerrie- Yeah, but I agree with Yari, the ending was a little better than the beginning.
Jonathan- When it comes to a TV series, I guess everyone reuses stuff from time to time. It could be a bit annoying though.
Brendan- One thing that really got to me was that how one minute things would be very serious, and then the next you’d have some stupid super-deformed slapstick.
Jonathan- Did that detract?
Brendan- Yeah.
Kerrie- I thought it was funny.
Brendan- I think they should have stuck to the more serious stuff.
Jonathan- It would have been really depressing...
Brendan- So is a lot of other anime that’s good.
Kerrie- I liked the mix.
Yari- It worked
Brendan- Jokes are ok, the super deformed stuff was over the top.
Jonathan- Overall recommendations? Yari?
Yari- Definitely see it...if you can stand sitting through all 52 episodes, it’s definitely worth it.
Kerrie- Definitely worth it.
Brendan- Got to love it.
Jonathan- I enjoyed, it’s one of the better TV series out there. So I get the sense we all liked it, and it’s worth seeing. Thanks guys!
