Dare I say absolutely, stunning even, this one is absolutely lush in terms of colours as well as presentation. 87 pages or so in technic colour, what more can you ask. Some are taken from the cover of the manga, but it is so different to look at them compiled in a book instead of having to unwrap the dust cover to take a look at the whole picture. What really attracted me is the centrefold. One side adopted the traditional wood carving style, with muted colours. It shows basically most of the recurring characters in a boat, while a Fuji mountain look a like explode in the background. People in Edo period costumes in the background looks like they’re trying to escape from the wrath of the mountain. On the other side is, Tamura sensei depicted the same characters but with a completely different setting and style. This time it looks like a collection of stained glass windows, with the characters appearing in the windowpanes.
I don’t really know what else to say except that it’s an absolute joy just letting my eyeballs wander from one page to the next, soaking in the jewel like colours. The best thing about this collection is the variety of themes and colours used throughout the entire book. Run, go
and buy it if you can afford it. I’m not letting this one out of my sight.
