In the Palace of Light, the seraphim gathered and eyed the area covered by blue and white veils. There
was a murmur of excited voices and a hushed silence as the veils slowly parted, revealing a small,
winged baby. Descending from above, the Ghost of Life enveloped the small figure, illuminating and
radiating until the room became too bright to see. Then, as quickly as it had appeared, the Ghost
disappeared from the room, leaving nothing to hint it was ever there.
Nothing, except for the wing-shaped pendant that hung on the child's neck.
"Dameon!" called the temple guard. Dameon glanced behind him, then spread his wings and took off in
the air. He heard an irritated cry, and felt something approach him from behind. A hand grabbed
Dameon's arm, and then another grabbed the collar of his shirt. The young saeraph felt his wings hit the
guard, then he ran his elbow at the guard's midsection. The guard loosened his grip a tiny bit, but that
was enough for the young saeraph to break loose and head for the small point of light in the sky. He
remembered his father telling him that beyond that point lie his people's former kingdom. Centuries ago,
Dameon's ancestors lived in the Light, until they were forced out because they were accused of stealing
the Spinning Emblem; the focal point of balance and harmony.
With a burst of speed and strength, Dameon reached the light, and was awed by what he saw.
In a garden, by a statue, sat a young seraph. She looked around Dameon's age, her hair, long and
shiny. Her eyes was as clear as crystal, her wings as white as snow. And on her neck, lies a pendant
in the shape of a feathered wing...
She looked up and saw the saeraph through the portal. She seemed surprised, but was not afraid. The
eyes of the two young celestials met...
There was a thunder-like clap as the guard fired a thunderball at Dameon. Dameon tried to dodge, but it
was too late and he was instantly knocked unconscious.
Dameon awoke to the gentle caress of a woman. He opened his eyes and found himself staring at the soft red eyes of his servant. The saeraph closed his eyes and fell asleep.
"What?" the Highlord shouted. The temple guard swallowed nervously.
"How dare you use a thunderball at my son?"
"My liege..."
"Enough!" The Highlord of the dark plane stood up and motioned for his guards to capture the man. The
temple guard started to get up and run, but thought better of it and let the guards take him. The Highlord
flashed an evil grin and said, "Take him to the dungeons and lock him up... forever."
The temple guard's eyes widened. "Nooo...!" he cried as he was dragged out of the room. The Highlord's
grin disappeared as he faced his advisor.
"How is Dameon?" he asked. The advisor looked at the Highlord.
"He is sleeping, but he is fine."
The lord smiled. It was rare that a child of his son's age could survive the intensity and force of a
thunderbolt. Maybe Dameon is destined to be the next high mage of the Kingdom of Shadows.
Dameon woke up alone, and looked out the window. He saw the small pinpoint of light and thought of the figure he saw in the garden. She was, in a word, perfect. Her figure reminded him of a goddess. Dameon shook his head, put on his shirt, and flew out the window.
Selene sat watching the sunset at the Ethereal. The Ethereal was a place of beauty; of full moons and
setting suns, the focal point of dreams and the imagination. She sat at the edge of a cliff, one of the
most secluded places in the Ethereal. Only a few knew about it, and it was the most beautiful place in
the entire Planes.
Selene sat with her head on her knees as she listened to the whistling of the wind. She thought back a
day ago when she was sitting in the palace gardens. She saw a young saeraph through the portal, and
she knew that she was instantly in love. She looked up into the sky and thought, 'If only it were meant
to be, I wish I can meet you right now.'
There was a rustle of leaves as the wind carried her thoughts away. Selene sighed and closed her eyes.
She heard a yawn, and quickly turned around. Behind her, on the far edge of the cliff, sat a young
saeraph. Her heart pounded as she saw the telltale wings, the ears, the horns...
She shook her head and knew that it couldn't be. They were so different... she was a White Angel, and
he was a Blue Demon, but...
Selene approached the figure and gently put a hand on his shoulder. The saeraph turned around and
saw the White Angel, and his heart skipped a beat. He opened his mouth to speak, but the seraph put
a hand to his lips.
"Do not say anything until you know why I came here." The seraph knelt down, so her eyes looked
straight into the demon's. "I am Selene, the keeper of the Palace of Light." She removed her hand from
the saeraph's mouth and awaited a response.
"D...Dameon of the Shadow Kingdom."
Selene smiled. "Then it is my pleasure to meet you, Dameon."
Every day, the two celestials met in the same place, just as the Ethereal sun set. For months, the seraph and the saeraph met, and every time talked about what has happened to their planes and about the systems of their kingdoms. The month gradually turned into years, and yet the two kept their meetings secret.
One day, the Kingdom of Shadows gathered it's best soldiers, including the son of the Highlord. All the
saeraphim gathered in front of the Dark Temple, and awaited the announcement of their lord.
"All those who reside in the Shadows, come, for I am here to announce that the time has arrived where
we will no longer stay in this dark plane.
"Behold, my son Dameon. He is our hope, and our key in taking over the Palace of Light. He is the
Shadow Kingdom's high mage."
All the saeraphim cheered as Dameon was led in front of the soldiers. "My son," the lord started, "You
have the skills and the power to overtake the light. Here, take this. When you were born, the Ghost of
Death descended on you and gave you a token of trust; an essence of it's being. We believe that with
this, you can be the most powerful being on the planes. Wear it in health."
The Highlord handed his son a small box. Dameon opened it, and examined it's content. It was a
wing-shaped pendant.
"And now," announced the Highlord, "We shall take back what is rightfully ours!"
Loud cheers erupted from the crowd of saeraphim, as the Shadow's soldiers flew up towards the light -
the gate to the Palace. Dameon turned to his father, his hands trembling as he held the box.
"Father... I can't..."
The Highlord waved his hand. He took the wing-shaped pendant and hung it around his son's neck.
"I know what you feel. This is your first war, but it certainly won't be your last. Don't worry, I will be with
you."
Tears welled up in Dameon's eyes as he followed his father to the gate.
"Your highness!" shouted the seraph as he ran into the palace throne room. "The saeraphs are
attacking!"
Selene's father looked up in surprise. "Guards, ready the defenses. Send messengers to warn the
population. Everyone prepare for battle!"
He turned to his daughter. "Selene, this will be a big war, and many might die."
He motioned towards his daughter's pendant. "In that pendant lies the essence of the Ghost of Life. You
are granted powers that even surpass our greatest magic workers. You must join the war, and take
down their High Mage."
Selene's eyes were filled with fear, and nodded. The king smiled. "Come, we shall fight for the Palace
together." And they flew to the palace gardens.
There were screams and clanging of swords, as the celestial armies engaged in a bloody melee.
Hundreds of soldiers from both sides charged and attacked, leaving nothing less than bloody corpses of
fallen bodies. The Highlord of the Shadows stood at the rear of the army, and watched as each of his
men engaged the angels. As the battlefield thinned out, he sighted his enemy - the King of Light.
"Dameon," the Highlord said, "Wait here."
"Father..." started the young saeraph, but already his father flew off.
Selene watched in horror as she saw each of the angels and demons attack each other. She was even more surprised when she saw her father fly towards the battle. The lord of Shadows and the king of Light met each other in mid-air as each one drew their sword. The other celestials stopped their fighting as soon as they saw their lords engage combat.
The lord of Shadows swung the Black Blade in an upward arc towards the king, but the king dodged.
The lord then turned around and smashed his elbow into the king's chest.
The angel let out a rush of air, and was hit hard on the head. The saeraph's look of triumph faded when
the king drove a knee to his midsection.
The battle raged on as the eyes of all the celestials on the plane focused on their lords. The lord of
Shadows swung at the king, but the king dodged. The saeraph took this opportunity to fly a few feet
away.
Both lords breathed hard as exhaustion took over their forms. The angel raised his sword over his head
with his right hand, and saw the saeraph do the same. Then, both celestials charged at each other.
There was a blinding flash as the two met, and a deafening silence took over the plane.
The light subsided, and all the celestials saw what has happened. The lord of Shadow's sword pierced his opponent's heart; and his opponent's sword pierced his.
The crowd of angels and demons stared in disbelief as they saw their lords fall to the ground. Selene's
eyes followed that of her father's body as it fell to the ground. Then she saw a figure in the distance. It
was too far to see his face, but she knew it was the Shadow's High Mage. She screamed in fury as she
put both hands in front of her. There, a huge red-white ball emerged, and she fired it at the High Mage. It
was only then that she realized that she was trying to kill her lover.
She was trying to kill Dameon.
Dameon was surprised as he saw a giant ball head towards him. It was as if in slow motion, his life
passed before his eyes; from the day he was born till the times he spend with Selene.
"Selene," he said, "If only I can say goodbye..."
Dameon felt a rush of wind as he felt someone push him aside. There was a blinding light and a scream
as the red-white ball hit his savior. When his sight returned, he looked at the spot where he had stood
and saw Selene, her clothes ripped to shreds and bleeding, but yet she was alive.
Selene awoke and found herself lying on a cliff. She watched as the sun began to set and felt the
caressing touch of her lover.
"Dameon..." she said, but the saeraph put his hand to her lips.
"Don't say anything." He said, and drew the angel close to him. Together, they can overcome all
obstacles, find and end to all pain.
They sat in each other's arms as the sun set and their new life together begins.
