Chapter 1: Disaster

The house shook as a boom echoed through the rooms. "There it is again!" Sammy said to his older sister, Serena. "I told you, you little fungus, it is the sonic boom from the space shuttle launch today." Serena replied angrily. Serena was 14, and had pigtails coming off the side of her head that came to her waist. It was blonde. Serena was a crybaby, and had very little patience for everything. She actually had a boy friend. His name was Darien and he worked at the INSENSE Control Center. Although he is 20 and she is only 14, she is still madly in love with him. She always bragged about him being some great scientist, but no one believed her. He wasn't even a scientist, yet. Serena loved space, and dreamed about going to the moon with Darien. That is one of her favorite pastimes, daydreaming. She always got in trouble for daydreaming at school, she attended Crossroads Middle, with her friends, Amy, Mina and Lita. Her and her friends were real close, probably because they all had a dark secret they couldn't tell anyone.

"Speaking of which, let's turn it on." Reeny said. Reeny was Serena's little cousin. She actually wasn't, but she pretended she was. And everyone thought she was, even Serena's parents. Everyone, that is, but Serena's friends. Reeny was about 7, and has pink hair in pigtails like Serena. She didn't go to school, she just went to daycare all day. She, like Serena, is in love with Darien, but it is because of different reasons. Reeny carried around with her a ball, that looked like a cats head. It was black and had a little antenna sticking out of the top. Oddly enough, the ball looked just like Serena's cat, Luna.

"That's a good idea! Turn it on dork!" Serena said, throwing a pillow at Sammy. "Alright alright, I'm getting to it!" Sammy said, turning on the TV. "Channel…" "Twelve, I know!" Sammy said, interrupting his sister. The TV came on. On the screen was a reporter for the news, "As I said before, no one knows what caused this disaster, but it appears as after the rocket exploded, the hull of the ship came crashing into the main building, as you see behind me. So far, no one has been found alive, and it is suspected that all crew and operators, perished. I'll have more at six o'clock. This is Sally Manfield, downtown Tokyo." Serena jumped up out of her seat. "What happened? What building, Darien? What?" "Calm down Serena, I don't think it was your boyfriend's building that got clobbered! It was probably…" Sammy was cut off. "SHUDDAP!" Serena and Reeny both yelled. "Well if your just joining us…" the TV continued, "…The Lunar Frontier Project Alpha Zoolu, whose mission was to study the o-zone, has had a fatal turn of events. It seems the shuttle exploded, and parts of it went crashed into the INSENSE Control Building in downtown Tokyo. We remind you to stay indoors as parts of the ship are still falling to Earth, and are expected to continue until 8:30 this evening. Once again, stay indoors."

"What about Darien, the survivors, what…" Serena was out of breath. "Calm down, Serena. I'm sure they'll say something." Sammy said to comfort his panicking sister. Just then the phone rang. Serena picked it up, "Darien?"

"NO!" the voice on the other line said. "Turn to channel…"

"Twelve? I know." Serena said breaking into tears. "I'm sorry. I sure Darien got out though." The voice said. "Your probably right Mina." Serena said through her tears. Mina was one of her good friends. She too was 14, and had long beautiful blonde hair, or at least that's what everyone said. Mina was taller than Serena, and smarter. She was very smart in fact. She was the second smartest of her friends and the third smartest person Serena knew. Serena's cat meowed and bit her on the arm. Serena screamed and said, "What did you do that for?" Here cat ran up the stair into her room. Serena followed. Luna was a small black cat. She had a crescent moon on her forehead pointing up. This moon served a purpose. Luna was no ordinary cat. She was, in fact, Serena's guardian. Long ago, Serena, Mina, Amy, Lita and Raye all lived on the moon in a place called the Moon Kingdom. After it was destroyed, Serena's real mother, Queen Serenity, sent all of them into the future, so they'd be safe. Luna was assigned to guard the princess, and teach her to use her powers. This dark secret is shared between them and her boyfriend, Darien. All of her friends had similar powers.

Once they were in Serena's room, Luna stopped playing dumb. "Serena, I'm sorry about Darien, but I have a strange feeling this disaster was no accident. I am calling a Sailor Scout meeting, right now. Get on the phone and tell Mina." The Sailor Scouts are an elite fighting force to stop evil. Darien, Mina Raye, Lita, Amy, and Serena are a part of this force. Each of them have strange powers, inherited from there home planets. Serena picked up the phone, "Mina, Luna is calling a Sailor Scout meeting. Get the girls. I'll meet you at the temple." Serena hung up the phone and looked at Luna. Luna said, "Let's go!" They ran down the steps, and left. Sam and Reeny looked at each other, and shrugged. Reeny said, "Maybe there going to the INSENSE building. Let's go too!" "Alright, we'll go a shortcut to beat them, let's go!" Sammy said. They both got up and headed out the back door.

Sammy was about 10. He was taller than Reeny and was really obnoxious. He always teased Serena and had some help from Reeny most of the time. He had short blonde hair, and a few freckles on his face. He never really liked Serena, but that's just Sibling Rivalry! He was secretly jealous of Serena, jealous of her being older and having more fun., jealous of having more friends. But mainly he was jealous of her and her boyfriend, Darien. He was tired of her always being happy, and that's mainly why he teased her.

As they ran along the beaten path, they could see fireballs here and there, falling on downtown Tokyo. They could also see the smoke from the destroyed INSENSE Control Building. They continued down they path-like alley that ran behind houses from here to downtown, and every once and a while, a spark would fly in front of there face. And that's when they saw in. Lying in the middle of the alley what a large piece of metal, about the size of Reeny and Sammy combined. "What is it?" Reeny said, brushing a spark off her dress. "I don't know…" Sammy said looking at the metal. Then he saw the letters:

PHA ZO U

HUTTL

What does sens una ront pha zo u huttl mean, he thought to himself, is it Spanish? "Look at that writing." he said. Reeny examined the metal. It was white and black, but still intact. It was oval shaped and had a metal latch on it. A door. "Sammy, it's a door. Look, the handle." Sammy walked up to it and pulled the handle. "OW!!! THAT'S HOT!" He screamed. The door fell over. The back was in perfect condition. It said in large letters, "EMERGANCY EXIT" and had a latch on the inside too. Reeny mumbled under her breath, "INSENSE Lunar Frontier Alpha Zoolu Shuttle." Then shouted, "It's the emergency door to the rocket. But why is it clawed?" "What?" Sammy said. "Look, it's clawed, just under the latch. Eight slashes on the door. See!" Reeny said pointing at the door. Sammy replied, "Your right!" Then touched it. He, once again, began jumping in pain. Reeny laughed, "Stop touching it idiot!"

"Come on, we have to beat Serena to the INSENSE Building. Let's get going!" Sammy said. "But it's 2 miles away! How?" Reeny said, as she stepped back from the door. "RUN!" Sammy said as he took off. "Slow down!" Reeny said, trying to catch up.

At the Cherry Blossom Temple, Raye, a 14 year old girl, is sweeping up some garbage. "Grandpa, you should really clean up after yourself! Chad and I are not your personal maids!" She yelled. Raye was fairly tall, and had long black hair, nearly as long as Mina's. She attended private school, and lived at Cherry Blossom Temple, in downtown Tokyo. She and Serena were good friends, but they fought a lot! Raye is really sweet underneath, but has an attitude when she gets mad. She, like Serena, has special powers. She can sense things, kind of like ESP. Her and Chad worked here at the temple, and took care of her grandpa.

"Raye, I'll get that!" Chad said as he walked over and started picking up some trash. "Why is grandpa like this? Why can't he pick up his own garbage?" Raye said, looking at her grandpa welcoming some guest. Chad was 16. He had brown hair that covered his eyes, and talked like a surfer-hippie mix. Raye had hired him some time ago, to help around the place, since her grandpa was getting to old to. He wasn't very bright, but Chad was nice. He liked to help out and learned a lot from Raye's grandpa. They all got along fine, and Chad loved working there.

"Hi young ladies, want to buy a charm? Hee hee! I'll give you a special deal! 5 charms for half price! What'll you say?" Raye's grandpa said to two teenage girls arriving at the temple. He was a short, bald old man, no younger than 60. He was very strange. He was always up and about, blessing this and practicing that. He has lived at the Cherry Blossom Temple his whole life, ever since his father built it a long time ago as a place of worship. He was sure a jolly old man though. He was a great martial artist and was always showing that off. He was wise with old age, but crazy too! The girls that had walked up were already leaving with five charms each.

"Good-by girls! Good luck! Come back again!" Raye's grandpa said with great enthusiasm. He always loved making customers happy. Walking up the steps was a blue hared 14, who looked very distinguished. "Hey Raye." The girl said, walking towards Raye and Chad. "Hi Amy. Where's everyone? What's this about?" Raye said, looking worried. Chad new his place and left. Amy said, "I don't know, but it might have something to do with the Lunar Frontier Project that failed this morning." "What?" Raye said, looking even more worried. "You didn't hear? The INSENSE Lunar Frontier Alpha Zulu rocket blew up this morning. A part of it hit the Main Control Building. You didn't hear the explosion?" Amy said looking confused. "No. I mean I heard the explosion but…doesn't Darien work there?" Raye said. "Yes, he does. They said on the news there was no survivors. I am really worried." Amy replied.

Amy was sort of tall, about the same size as Serena. She had short blue hair and was a genius. Literally, she had an IQ of around 190. She was one of the smartest people alive. And the smartest person Serena knew. Amy came from an Academy in Northern Japan. All the kids called it, the brain school, because only geniuses went there. She now attends Crossroads Middle, with the rest of her friends. She was a Sailor Scout as well, and didn't mind being one, except for the fact she couldn't go to the library as often.

"Don't be Amy!" a girl behind her said. "She's right, he's probably okay." Another voice said. She turned around and saw two girls standing on the top of the stairs leading to the temple. Then a white cat walked up next to them. "There right you know." The cat said. "Lita, Mina, Artemis, hey." Raye said looking less worried. Lita was tall, and had long brown hair tied up in a ponytail behind her head. She had a scratchy voice, and was really tough. She got kicked out of her last two school because of fights, and also attends Crossroads Middle School. Her and Serena were best friends, and always hung out. Lita is lovesick! She always likes guys, and goes after them all. She thinks every guy likes her. She is a good cook and encourages Serena to try.

Artemis was Mina's cat. He too was a guardian, and was the opposite of Luna. He was white, and had a crescent moon on his forehead. He was Mina's guardian, and they both were good companions. "Now we're all here! Where's Luna and Serena?" Artemis said. "Not here! As always!" Raye said furiously. Serena was always late. "So what is this about?" Amy said curiously. "I don't know. But I have had a strange felling ever since this morning." Artemis replied. "You mean ever since the explosion?" Luna said walking up the steps. "How'd you…what's going on?" Artemis said. Serena came running up the steps. "Can we…huh…go to…ugh…the scene…for…Dar…ien?" Serena said panting. Luna said, "That's why were here. I have felt a strange force ever since the explosion this morning. I think that it was no accident. We're going to go down there and check it out. While were at it, we'll look for Darien." Raye thought to herself, I think she's right, I felt the same way this morning. "Are we ready?" Luna said looking around. "Yes!" Serena said. "Let's go!" She started down the steps and stopped when she noticed no one was coming.

"Hello? Any day now! Darien awaits." Serena said and took off. "What is with that girl?" Raye said.

"Come on Reeny, we can fit under this hole in the fence." Sammy said, lifting up the mesh wiring of the barb-wired topped fence. "This doesn't seem right." Reeny said. But Sammy was already on the other side. "Come on!" Sammy said, darting across the field toward the ruins on a hanger. "Wait up!" Reeny said as she got caught on the fence. "Hold it! Sammy!" She finally got free and chased after him. Sammy walked into the hanger, that had been collapsed in the middle by fragments of the Control Building Wall. Part of the hanger was on fire here and there, and the inside was scorched black. "Hel…p…me." A deep voice said from inside the hanger. "Please…elp…me!" It said louder. Sammy looked around. "Where are you?" He said, still looking.

Reeny ran into the hanger. "Wait up next time o…" Reeny was cut off. "Shhh. Where are you?" Sammy asked. "I'm right here moron!" Reeny said, looking curious. "No, the voice." Sammy replied. "In your head!" Reeny said sarcastically. "Reeny?" The voice said. "Darien?" Reeny said, her eyes widening. "Yes, it's Darien." The voice said. "Help me!" "Where are you?" Reeny said. "I told you I wasn't crazy!" Sammy said. "Over here." She looked around and saw under the ruins, Darien's body. "Darien, your alive!" Reeny said with glee and headed for him.

"Look ma'am, I can't let you in here. This is a restricted area!" The guard in front of the ruined INSENSE Control Building said. "But you don't understand! My boyfriend…" Serena said. "Look Ma'am, I'm sorry about your boyfriend, but I can't let you in here! Go down to the police department." The guard said, pushing them away. Raye whispered into Serena's ear, "Look, the fence over there has been taken out by some debris, we'll go over there!" Serena looked and saw the fence. "Well uh, bye. Sorry to trouble you!" Serena said and walked away. Her friends followed. They ducked down an alley and came back another way so the guard wouldn't see them. As the approached the fence, Amy looked at the piece of debris on the ground.

It was a control stick. She picked it up and noticed something dangling at the bottom. It was a human arm, still attached, flesh and all. "What is that Amy?" Lita said and walked over to her. "My god! It's an arm!" Serena started to turn green. "It must have come off during the explosion!" Amy said as everyone turned green. "How can you hold that?" Lita said. "Well I'm going to be a doctor, and I have to get use to it!" "But why does it have scratches on it?" Lita said. She was right. There were eight claw marks running up the arm. "I down know. The fence maybe? It was coming in pretty fast." Amy said looking at Serena lose her lunch. "Put, that down!" Serena yelled.

Amy dropped it and made her way towards the fence. "Look, footprints!" Mina said. "Those look like Reeny's shoe prints. In fact, that's part of her skirt on the fence. She's got some explaining to do, but let's find Darien first!" Serena said as she charged the fence. Luna looked down at the arm, and a cold chill ran down her spine.

"I can't get it off!" Reeny shouted. "Darien push!" "I can't!" Darien said, his legs caught under the wall off the INSENSE Building, that had broken through the side of the hanger. Sammy tried again, pushing harder now. "I can't get it! It hopeless!" Sammy said. "Where's Serena? She was coming here, right?" "She said that?" Darien said. "Not exactly, but she just busted out of the house when she heard…" Sammy stopped talking. "Heard what?" Darien said, looking at the two of them. "They said, they said there were no survivors. On, on the news." Reeny said, looking sad.

"Does Serena think…?" Darien said. "I don't know? She was crying. I thought she was coming here." Reeny said, looking clueless. "If Serena were here…" Sammy was interrupted. "If Serena were her what?" A voice said from behind them. Reeny turned around, "Serena! I knew you'd…" "Can it squirt! What are you doing here? Would you mind telling…Darien!" She saw Darien behind Reeny and ran toward him crying. "I thought, I mean…I love you!" She said hugging him. "I know Serena, I know!" He said. Lita, Mina, Amy, Raye, Luna and Artemis walked into the hanger. "Jesus Christ! What happened here?" Mina said aloud. "It's worst outside!" Amy said, looking through the hole in hanger.

"Is he alright?" Lita said, looking at Darien. "No he's caught, I can't get it up. Help me." They all walked over and started pushing up on the wall fragments. "It won't budge! Reeny, Sammy, go get the guard out front!" Serena yelled. Then there was a cracking sound. Darien looked up and saw the roof cracking. "HURRY!!!" Serena yelled. Sammy and Reeny got up and ran outside. "It's going to collapse Serena, get out!" Darien said, pushing her away. The roof began to chip, and the crack ran down the side of the hanger. "No, not without you! I'm not leaving." Here eyes became all teary and jumped back toward Darien's trapped body. "Were getting out of here!" Serena yelled, pulling on him. "No, you are! Take her out of here!" Darien said, motioning towards the others. Lita ran up to her and grabbed her.

Serena pushed her away. She knew what she had to do. She had to call on the power of the moon. "Cosmic Moon Power!" She said. This was the chant to change her into the super suited fighting solider, Sailor Moon! She had red ruby clips in her hair, crescent moon earrings, a crescent moon turtleneck and a suit that looked like a dress. She wore boots and gloves that came up to her elbows, and on the front of her suit, was a broach, with a star on it. At the end of each point on the star was a crystal, varying in color all around. Each of these crystals stood for a planet. Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Mercury, and, the Moon.

The other girls ran out as the hanger started to collapse. "Darien, hold on!" Serena said as she pulled out a red scepter. This scepter was laced in jewels, and at the end, was a swan, on top of a crown shaped oval. The wall bent in towards them and the roof started to fall. She held up the scepter, and began to spin it around, chanting the words, "Moon Scepter, Elimination!" A beam of light came out of the scepter and hit the wall on top of Darien. There was a big flash of light and the wall turned to dust, freeing Darien. They both ran out of the hanger as it fell to the ground in one loud bang. Serena came out of her suit and became herself again.

They looked at each other and kissed.
