Interviews
falon

Legendary leader of the longstanding, well respected STRIKERs gang, and incredible player in his own right, falon is a Battlefield icon, who will be remembered for years to come for all he has done to improve the battlefield community.
The following interview was conducted by F-14 Tomcat the evening of July 1st, 2003.
F-14 Tomcat: First off, thank you for the interview!
F-14 Tomcat: How old are you?
falon: I am 64
F-14 Tomcat: Really, i had no idea. . .
F-14 Tomcat: Are you a guy or a girl?
falon: Lol, I was joking I am 28 and very much a male last time I checked.
F-14 Tomcat: heh, thought so
F-14 Tomcat: So where are you from?
falon: I live in a semi small city near Pittsburgh, PA. The city is known for the rather large people who live here caugh caugh.
F-14 Tomcat: lmao, height or width?? ;-)
falon: definitely width. Too many pizza shops around here.
F-14 Tomcat: heh, and too many computer games!
F-14 Tomcat: Speaking of which... How long have you been playing Battlefield? And why do you play?
falon: I have been playing battlefield almost 6 years. I play the game because it's a good stress reliever but also just plain addictive at times.
F-14 Tomcat: We all know the feeling!
F-14 Tomcat: What tanks have you played?
falon: Hmm I will tell you some I guess. falon, FirstSTRIKES, PandemoniumSTRIKES and Britney Spears. In that order I have the most time on those 4 tanks.
F-14 Tomcat: heh, we'll let you keep your little secrets!
F-14 Tomcat: What does the name falon mean to you?
falon: It's just a name of a guy who I worked with when I was over seas in Germany while I was in the U.S. Army.
F-14 Tomcat: A tribute of sorts?
falon: I just like the name because it was uncommon
F-14 Tomcat: fair enough
falon: I like uncommon names
F-14 Tomcat: Who were some of your favorite tanks to battle on the field? Tanks you really loved to duke it out with?
falon: Hmm now that's a tough question. I guess I don't have any. Most of the people who I have enjoyed duking with out with are on my strikers team so I don't fight them anymore.
F-14 Tomcat: Keep your friends close eh... :-P
F-14 Tomcat: A lot of players who otherwise would have retired completely, stay for the teams because they are so entertaining. Why do you think that is?
falon: I don't think alot of that is actually happening. They maybe pop in for a raid or two but other then that they have their own lives etc. I may be one of the exceptions because I would probably retire if I was not on a team because teams tend to create action and not make the game so boring as it often is at times.
F-14 Tomcat: agreed
F-14 Tomcat: Explain your team experiences/history, especially with the long standing STRIKERS gang.
falon: Well when I first made the team in rocks I had won my battered from cm and played mostly desert at the time. I was really never on a team before I made my own.
F-14 Tomcat: And it was a success obviously!
falon: So I started recruiting whoever I could get to join including not so good players but as we got better and my reputation got better I starting getting better players and now the rest is history.
F-14 Tomcat: Explain what raiding with strikers is like to people who may have never experienced a skilled team.
falon: Well raiding means "power" if it is done right and if you have the right people and number of people. If you have all these qualifications then you can dominate a map. You can actually deactivate anyone you chose and therefore drive every one right out of the map.
F-14 Tomcat: lol, We've all seen how many people quit immediately when the strikers raid!
F-14 Tomcat: What do you do, or would like to do, career wise?
falon: which career?
F-14 Tomcat: real life, lol
falon: Oh I want to be a full time dolphin trainer at Sea World.
F-14 Tomcat: Whatever floats your boat. . . .
falon: Lol you know I am just joking... I want and am going to be a social studies teacher.
F-14 Tomcat: I want to be an English teacher
F-14 Tomcat: heh, i'll have to get some tips from you later ;-)
F-14 Tomcat: What are some of your hobbies and/or favorite activities? What do you do in your spare time other than play battlefield?
falon: Well I like to fish and hunt and coach basketball. Some people consider my national guard and playing on m1a1 tanks a hobby too :-)
F-14 Tomcat: heheh, like battlefield for real!
F-14 Tomcat: Favorite bands? Or musical styles?
falon: Don't have any of them. I listen to a little of every thing except rap I don't like that.
F-14 Tomcat: heh, i know how you feel!
F-14 Tomcat: I hear that you are currently offering web hosting. I think this is an important service to offer the Battlefield community. So give us the rundown!
falon: Well I am trying to keep this short so in a nutshell types and I became partners and made a web hosting business to pay for the battlefield websites etc. This is idea and will work if we can get others to buy a domain name and some webspace off us.
F-14 Tomcat: So anybody looking to have their own website professionally done should contact you?
falon: Yes but I only supply the domain name and the space not the actual design of the site
F-14 Tomcat: OK, good luck, I’m sure you’ll get a lot of support!
F-14 Tomcat: What affect do you think the discovery of AIM, and ICQ programs have had on the game?
falon: to be honest with you it has made battlefield go down hill.
F-14 Tomcat: elaborate
falon: If you think about it, it hurts all your games that require more then one person
falon: for example a card game, you can msg your partner and ask him what cards he or she has.
F-14 Tomcat: Yeah i see your point.
F-14 Tomcat: It promotes cheating.
falon: Very much so although I am glad that aim and icq exist
falon: I guess there is a dark side and a light side to any given situation.
F-14 Tomcat: Interesting to think how BF would have gone if there was no aim or icq
falon: It wouldn't be such a community and raids would not work as well and there would not be as much cheating (free kills)
F-14 Tomcat: Good and bad, just like you said.
F-14 Tomcat: Well, onto more serious topics, what do you think of events in the world these days? War? Terrorism? Racism? Etc.
falon: Well I think that our President George Bush is doing a good job and that we have to do what we have to do to make this a better world to live in.
F-14 Tomcat: OK
F-14 Tomcat: How important is family to you?
falon: Nothing is thicker then blood do I have to say any thing more?
F-14 Tomcat: Not a thing, i agree completely!
F-14 Tomcat: What would you like people to know about your life outside this game?
falon: I would have to say to treat all people kindly as they would like to be treated and to support and have patience for our leaders as they have to make some tough decisions in the turbulent times that are here now and that will come later.
F-14 Tomcat: Good. Now on to the question that has been asked a million times before. What would you change about the game if you were in charge of Bonus.com?
falon: I would shut down bonus until they can properly maintain security for their servers so they cannot be attacked and that I would invest in better technology to make the game run smoothly including better ways to find and prosecute hackers.
F-14 Tomcat: Excellent, not the usual... "I’d get rid of water" lol
falon: You have to have water just not as much that u can hide on and have all the equipment stay in
F-14 Tomcat: like desert.
F-14 Tomcat: If you were me, who would you interview next? And why?
falon: Well I think there are very few people who deserve to be interviewed and that the ones you should interview are the quiet ones like my buddy deathstrikes. Also another good person to interview might be some older players like meandean who have been around as long as me or longer.
F-14 Tomcat: done and done ;-)
F-14 Tomcat: Give a shout out to some of your favorite BF players.
falon: Again I gotta go with my striker teammates and chat buddies. Some people that I have more and more respect for are players like The Red October, and believe it or not, you :-)
F-14 Tomcat: AWWW!!!! thanks man!!! I appreciate it!!!
falon: ok now buy one of my website packages ;-)
F-14 Tomcat: I’ll get right on that! Cough sure cough.
falon: Which package did u want again?
F-14 Tomcat: lmao
F-14 Tomcat: The nonexistant one…
falon: ok that will be 50 bucks for that one
F-14 Tomcat: hehehe, sure, its in the mail
F-14 Tomcat: :-P
falon: cheapskate ;-)
F-14 Tomcat: you know it
F-14 Tomcat: ROFL, and finally, is there a message you would like to send to all the new players out there, or anything else you would like to add? A final sentiment as it were?
falon: Yep sure, don't quit low and don't use various hacks that give you an edge over every one else.
falon: Also, enjoy the game and quit playing the game when it starts to get you upset all the time.
F-14 Tomcat: Good advice! Well... thats it! I'm almost sorry it’s over!
F-14 Tomcat: Thank you kindly for the interview, and good luck in all your ventures!
falon: Thank you, and same to you.
