The American War Bride Experience

GI Brides of World War II

Love Story with A Twist

I am one of those war brides only there is a twist to my story. I was a US WAC serving with the 8th Air Force in England. My English husband entered the US under the War Brides Act. We had 40 wonderful years together and 4 children (now all parents themselves) before he died in 1987. We were actually married in South Africa in 1947 and settled in the US in 1950. But, that's not all. We had been pen pals since we were 13 years old and never met until he visited the US as a radio officer in the British Merchant Navy and we met briefly in Philadelphia. My assignment to England in 1944 was pure chance. Some things are meant to be.
