Magick is influencing one's enviroment to yield desired results, which is exactly the same goals of prayer, it is just a different way. Some common prayers would be that so and so makes it through their surgery okay, or that Mr. Smith finds peace after his wife's death, or asking to bring something into one's life. Magick does the same thing, just uses more of a technical approach to prayer.
An experienced person would see if the planets are aligned right at the time, burn incense and herbs with the desired effects, and light the candles of the appropriate color. Magick does not have to be that difficult, it could just be lighting a candle, calling upon the goddess and god in one's car on the way to work, or declaring sacred space and writing in the air the desired outcome. The "correct" way to do a spell is up to the individual and what feels right to them, just as some people pray with rosaries, or kneeling at their bed, the same thing goes for magick.
Magick is neither good or bad; it is simply gray, as are all things in nature. However, the intention of the person determines it's purpose. This is where the law of magick plays a giant part of good vs. bad. The law of magick is most commonly refered to the threefold law that states:
Anything you do comes back three times to you.
Have you ever noticed that things in life usually come in threes, whether good or bad? The references to things coming in threes can be endless. For example, there is a beginning, middle, and end. Or, life, death, rebirth. Elementary, Middle, and High schools. The Christian holy trinity, etc.
Therefore, if you were to cast a spell to let your brother come into some money, you would most likely also have money come to you as well as two other people, or other good things would happen to you. That spell would be a positive one, wielding positive results. However, if one was to cast a spell making an enemy sick, threefold would then bring you three times the misfortune.
