The unusual Brinkmann device
Brinkmann: a micro-macro meter?
Valentin Sama, Madrid 22 Jan 1999

The camera: I believe it was used a lot on long exposures, as the black paint near the slow speed winding knob shows a lot of wear.

As for the Brinkmann device in itself.

This device is formed by three main parts: an Ihagee Exakta mount (with the Brand name), the long tube, beautifully machined in aluminium, and a black fixture that contains a TTL selenium cell that can be inserted in the path of the light by means of a bakelite tipped shaft. This round tip includes the cord to an external measurement device, maybe an ampmeter (not provided). The metal, black painted part, that contains the cell, can be adjusted in his position so the operator can use the cell with the greatest degree of comfort.

The aluminium tube has a quick release system, so you can take the camera, and the TTL metering device, out of the tube to change film more easily, or maybe to photograph thorough different tubes. I think this part is some kind of Ihagee microscope adapter. I suppose ditto tube was installed in some kind of optical device, maybe a microscope. The tube in itself has no lens inside. Anyway, the mount itself shows a lot of wear too, so it can be infered that the camera was separated from the mount of the device a lot too.

I have checked the device on my standard microscope and it does nor adjust properly: the diameter of the Brinckmann tube is smaller than the ocular tube of the microscope. In the photographs you can see the Brinkmann device attached to the camera, the tube separated from the cell, with the cell in his measuring position, and other views of the parts.
