Jeremy Irish
(Flashy Graphics Go Here)
I was born on September 13, 1978 (that makes me 18) and my 7th, 13th,
and 18th birthdays were on Fridays. I am currently a music composition
major at Point Loma Nazarene College in San Diego, California, and
learned how to construct web pages in order to curb the terrible
inadequacy of resources for young composers like myself on the Web.
Abandoning dreams of a catchy title in favor of putting the thing up
as soon as possible, I just called it... Resources for Young Composers.
It gave me a place to post the copyright forms which I had such trouble
finding, as well as numerous composition contests; I still check that
list when I forget one of their addresses or URLs.
(More Snazzy Graphics Here)
I didn't always like music. Until first grade, I was neutral, and
beginning that year, I hated it. Our class went to "music class,"
where we had a different teacher and a different format that I didn't
enjoy. It took two events to spark my interest in music: I won a
third-grade flash card game of note recognition, which proved to me
that I could do music (at least music theory), and I took band in fifth
grade and discovered I enjoyed instrumental music. Then I just started
trying to compose, and here I am.
(Graphics Will Be Here, I Promise)
For those of you whose interest this autobiography has held up to this
point, I will divulge some of the things I have in mind for RYC and
for my home page. As soon as I can get in contact with a scanner, I
will honestly have some "flashy, snazzy" graphics on this page. I plan
to get better backgrounds (well, some backgrounds at all) and find more
contests and pages of contemporary composers. I will also try to write
a few short expositions (call them essays if you like) on topics that
have come up in feedback that I feel need addressing, such as
copyrighting material, getting published, and what makes good music.
Here are links to the home pages of some of my friends from college:
(Remember the disclaimer!)
And here is one song I have written that I got into MIDI format:
The Duel of Night and Day - Written between May
12 and August 18, 1996, and put successfully in full score form
sometime long thereafter, this is a program piece about the possible
conflict between the Day and the Night if God had created them as
living beings. At the end, God intervenes and shows them His perfect
plan for an orderly sharing of the sky and importance. It actually
sounds a lot better with the concert band instrumentation it was
written for. Percussion is a plus.
That's what I have so far. Tell me if you
want me to touch upon anything else.
