Sides, 2piece hassle, back, rose.  September 12, 1999.

This is a closeup of the test joint.  Two pieces of blackwood as long as sides.
The long view after joining them and scraping.  No joint visible!  so I decide I'll make the sides full depth, edge joining two pieces to achieve the full depth.
(A bit of a hassle -{understatement} but I don't want to sacrifice the end result.
The two pieces on the outside will be joined.
Here they are after gluing.
And after scraping.  Looks pretty good I think.
Here are the back pieces.  I have drawn on the exact location of the plantilla.  The sapwood in the middle will be used for ornamentation.
After trimming the excess from the center, I have made center strip out of the excess piece.  I have glued on european maple strips (1.2mm) which will also surround the binding on the back and sides.  The maple is "curly" so it sort of glimmers in the light.
Here is the test joint strip with two applications of shellac.  Very dark and very smooth.
The rose on the right is the one I'll probably use.  Not the best picture....
