Change. Some people have to have it. Some people do all they can to avoid it. I don't mind change after it's over, unless I'm the one instigating it, and even then it's better when it's over and everyone has had a chance to accept it.
Big changes are affecting the Farley household the next few weeks and months. First, we're moving from the wonderful land of aloha on the island of Oahu to Sierra Vista, Arizona, another magical land of beauty, if you like deserts, mountains, and mesquite trees. My wife, Debbie, being an Army officer, is subject to such changes in venue every three or four years, and I follow with an understanding heart.
The move isn't going to be accomplished in one fell swoop, however. We'll spend close to six weeks getting from here to there, taking some time in between to navigate the mainland of the United States from California to Ohio, our birthplace. From there, we'll drive back to Arizona. We'll be accompanied on the plane and in the car by our dog and cat, Missy and Whiskers.
Debbie will most likely not make it through her six-month advanced course because she is scheduled to give birth to our first child sometime around November. Pregnant women cannot be assigned to certain duties, some of which are involved with the advanced course, making it necessary for her to take them at a later time. That means we'll probably spend some extra time in Arizona. That will be okay with me, because it means postponing the next change in our location, which is, as of now, unknown.
One thing that won't change is my Hawaii job and my volunteer activities with the zine. Thanks to the Internet, I'll be able to modem in my programming work for the office where I've worked for over two years in Hawaii. With NetMeeting and video conferencing, we'll be in touch almost like I never left. Of course, I never did have an office with the zine.
During the six weeks I'll be on the road, my Internet activity will be curtailed a little. My associates Florian and Keith will be taking the brunt of the publishing activities if I should become digitally incapacitated. I don't foresee that happening, but I like to cover the bases.
I hope to be able to keep my own Web site updated, maybe with some notes along the way in my Forum area of my Guestbook link. You're all invited to come along, too. Just follow the homepage link by my name below.
