CONSIDERING LIFE AND DEATH

Consider the leaves on the trees
what purpose do they serve while they are alive and
thrive?
Give shade on a hot day,
to the Children as they play.
Give protection from the wind and rain
to a little bird, squirrel, or spider.

What of the leaves when their life is over?
Do they still serve some purpose?
Perhaps they may nourish the ground
for the tree from which they grew.

Perhaps the Children and Grandchildren of the tree;
and the brothers and sisters of the leaves
also may know the thrill of protecting
someone's shoulders from blisters,
or a stray dog from the wind and rain.

So do we yet serve a purpose when our life is over?
Perhaps to whisper a prayer
for a loved one left behind,
in need or in despair.
Maybe to have left behind footsteps for others to
follow.
Perhaps,
Maybe...........
