For me, days off are often a bitter-sweet experience. My wife is constantly after me to take at least one day off a month.. And I guess that it is good to take time off and relieve the stress. Unfortunately, time off is often marred with the fact that it seems that I have a 100 irons in the fire and some are beginning to melt. And so when I do take time off, I work even harder when I get back.
And I suppose that just about any business or professional person reading this has the same experience.
So you can understand that when it comes to taking time off, either for vacation or just a day, I don't want to go somewhere I hate. I must admit the thing I least like to do is to go to a big city. I don't like the traffic or the pollution. I'll take a small town or the countryside any day.
But you may be complete opposite. A relative of mine does not care for small towns and she is absolutely miserable in the country. Give her a huge mall and she is happy!
Why do you like to go to the places you go? And more important than that ... where would be your dream home if you could choose anywhere in the world to live?
Just think about that for a minute.
Now, take those reasons and multiply them by two times or five times. For instance, if you love the song of nature in the mountains ... what if you could go someplace where you never heard a jack hammer or fire truck's siren? Wouldn't that be wonderful?
You do that exercise with anything you like. Perhaps you love the beach, the wind and the surf Maybe you like a crowded mall - - and a place where you could shop for a week and never go into the same store twice?
Now take whatever is a pleasant experience and multiply it by two - - no five times - - no 100 times. And you still only have a small glimpse of what heaven is like.
The Bible says that the sufferings of the present time are nothing - - they are not even worth comparing - -to the glory of heaven that is about to come to each faithful Christian (Romans 8:18).
1 look forward to going to heaven. I pray that you do, too.
