L'Histoire de Marquis

Welcome!!

My name is Josh Newton, and I am seriously into Music, Poetry, Sleep, and Coffee. They are the most important things in my life... especially the coffee... NO!! I meant the music. Right now, I have just finished my third semester at the University of Southern Maine as a Music Education Major.

I compose music of all kinds. The music you heard on the Newton Family Home Page was the MIDI version of a piece I am currently writing called Dawn (alright, so I have been working on it for about three years now... I'll finish it someday!). It is written for Piano and mixed chorus (eight part in some places, but mostly four part) and the text is a poem by my good friend Leanne Towle (she is an INCREDIBLE poet).

I am a euphonium player; I have been playing for (ugh) 8 years. In my senior year, I was 2nd in the state of New Hampshire and the region of New England, and ranked on the Eastern Coast (I was nominated for The All-Eastern Band, but never got the opportunity to attend). Just recently I was selected as Principal Euphonium in the All-New England Inter-Collegiate Band.

I am also a conductor. The Mount Washington Valley Band comes under my directorship every Tuesday night, beginning the 19th of January. We are starting to get ready for our Annual Spring Concert, and that date will be coming up April or so of 1999. Everyone is always welcome, especially if you bring an instrument with you. We just go out to have fun, and this concert coming up is the more serious musically of our concert series. The program will include serious works (the is year we are doing the finale from Dvorak Symphony #9 in E Minor) and popular pieces (selections from "Les Miserables", and lots of other Broadway). If you are staying a while in the Valley, drop by for our rehearsals and join us for our Annual Spring Concert.

You may see a lot of references to a certain "Jenny" throughout the site (that is if you look at the rest of the site *shameless promotion*). There are poems which try and describe the picturesque beauty. There are compositions which try to recall the grace of presence. Alas, I must admit they simply can not do her justice. Jenny, for those of you who do not know, is the most beautiful creature to have graced the Earth. She is my fiancee, the one to whom I pledge my undying love. And she told me that if I didn't mention her on this page that she would do nasty things to me while I slept *s*. Seriously though, she is the love of my life, I am nothing without her, so as you go through (repeat of shameless promotion) my home page, and you see Jenny refered to, know that the poetry and music (which many have said is beautiful) does nothing to compliment the beauty which she possesses. She is brilliant as a star, brilliant in mind, and My Love. She is also in San Diego, which for those of you who don't know is

REALLY FRICKING FAR AWAY FROM MAINE.

Here is to you baby, Cheers to us and our life together!

Well, enough about me (and Jenny). I want to hear from you. If you want to comment on something, be it my poetry, or would like to hear about some of the things I have written (you name the medium, I probably have SOMETHING)... Large Wind Ensemble, chamber groups, EUPHONIUM AND TUBA DUETS (loads of ‘em!!!) Brass choir pieces etc. etc.... write, ask, EMAIL and I’ll give you a reply.
.

Euphoniously yours,
Josh Newton

You can also contact me on ICQ, UIN 3207896. I also frequent the Park Poetry Room, so if you are ever around, ask, and SOMEONE is bound to know who I am (still trying to decide if that is a good thing or a bad thing...). Stop by again, because the sight will be changing constantly while I am home here (until the 20th of January), and hopefully finished.. that is if I can get this HTML stuff down (-8
