20th anniversary of the soundtrack release of STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE is commemorated with an expanded score, enhanced liner notes, modern film annotation, and a bonus disc, Gene Roddenberry's INSIDE STAR TREK (on CD for the first time, also expanded)--all housed in a collectors' edition holographic slipcase.

Jerry Goldsmith's masterful score for Star Trek: The Motion Picture musically blends Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry's romantic visions of idyllic 23rd Century life with the eerie mysteries of unknown space, earning an Oscar nomination in 1979 for "Best Original Score." In celebration of the 20th anniversary of its release, and working in conjunction with composer Jerry Goldsmith, Columbia/Legacy is proud to present the definitive version of this powerful and moving work.

Included as a special bonus is Inside Star Trek, the insightful and provocative Gene Roddenberry interviews with original cast/crew members, Isaac Asimov, and more. First Star Trek movie soundtrack reissued for 20th anniversary

Fans of Jerry Goldsmith's now-familiar theme from "Star Trek: The Next Generation" can return to the music -- and much more -- in its original form as the main theme from the first Star Trek feature film.

The "20th Anniversary Collectors Edition" of the "Star Trek - The Motion Picture" soundtrack from Sony/Legacy, based on the 1979 film, adds new tracks and other surprises when it arrives in stores Nov. 2.

The newly remastered re-issue includes seven previously unreleased tracks from the feature, the original and new liner notes, and a bonus CD: the long-unavailable "Inside Star Trek with Gene Roddenberry" album from the mid-1970s. That disk, the first time on CD, also features unreleased material and newly recorded narration by Nichelle "Uhura" Nichols, adding to Roddenberry's original interviews with William "Kirk" Shatner, Mark "Sarek" Lenard and DeForest "McCoy" Kelley.

August 26th 1998

Well, August 4th came and went, and still no ST:TMP score! Sony has delayed the release yet again, this time until November 3rd. Hopefully this time it will actually come out!

July 14th 1998

It appears as if Sony has set a release date for the Star Trek: The Motion Picture soundtrack. August 4th, 1998 is the general rumor that I keep hearing, but I missed the official press release on the news groups. The Sony Music Website is less-than easy to get around, and there is pratically no useful information on it. I'll keep an ear out for this one, so check back for updates every now and again.

January 26th 1998

On January 24th, 1998, I wrote a Record Producer for SILVA SCREEN RECORDS (who has stated on America Online message boards that he has contacts within Sony and various other studios) to ask when the "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" soundtrack might be released, as many of you have requested of me. The following is my original letter to him, and after that, his response.

Dear Mr. Thaxton,
On 5-18-97 in a Star Trek message board on America Online, you indicated that the ST:TMP soundtrack would be available shortly. It has been more than seven months and you have not given all us loyal and needy fans any more information. And it still hasn't been released! Please, not only I, but visitors of my Tribute to Jerry Goldsmith page, want and NEED to know when this CD will be available! If you can send me an update, please do so.

From: Fordat1@aol.com

It will be out when SONY decides to release it.
Deal withi it. Your opinion to be honest is of little
if any interest to me.

It makes you wonder how these people get into the jobs that they have, doesn't it?
