In the very near future, GeoCities is going to implement a replacement for the pop-up window ads and the GeoGuide. This new form of advertising will bring along the much-hated Java slide-in windows, which slow down any computer below a Pentium III or a G5 Macintosh. The good news is that after 15 seconds, you can close the slide-in window for good on that visit to the page. The bad news is, every time you visit a new page, or reload the page you are on, the slide-in window will most likely come back. As far as I know, there is literally no way to get around this nasty ‘feature’ -- except for this: this secret is something that I am wholly unwilling to do, and that is to down-grade your web browser to a version LESS than 4.0. Only browsers that are less than 4.0 will not have the ad slide-in window, they will continue to get the ad pop-up windows and GeoGuides. Best of luck in figuring out your approach to this dilemma, and I apologize in advance for the inconvenience!

I am a healing survivor with no musical background except for the sensory childhood memory of listening to my grandmother play her classical pieces on a hot Florida summer's night.

For me, there HAS to be something in the vibrational rate of Mr. Goldsmith's music that makes a direct connection to the center of my Soul. The score from Medicine Man awakened a Goddess Energy buried long ago under an avalanche of emotional, physical and sexual abuse.

When I falter, I use the score from Lillies of the Field to reconnect me to the pure Joy of the Universe and of being alive.

Mr. Goldsmith's compositions have not only brought tears to my eyes, but have helped to replace negative cellular memories with ones so positive that I can travel from one Universal Plane to another by the power of sound and vibration.

Kudos to you and your enthusiastic support of this gifted artist.

With appreciation and thanks,

What can I say, besides best of luck! I'm glad to see that something that I strive to acomplish on the web actually has a positive impact, even if only a slight one at that.

I have recently communicated with the press officer for the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Nik McHugh (rsno @ glasgow.almac.co.uk). He has informed me of some confidential information, however there may be a recording session in the near future with the RSNO and Jerry Goldsmith. As more information becomes available, I will update the page.

On two other notes:
1.) The album that was scheduled to be recorded in February, as Jerry's 'Birthday' CD, has been canceled. The scheduling conflicts could not be worked out, unfortunately.
2.) On the RSNO Homepage, there used to be a link to information on Jerry's work with the RSNO, however it is has been off-line for almost two months. According to Nik, it should be back on-line shortly.

Best Fan Page I've discovered so far. Let me tell you about yesterday evening. I went to concert of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra playing a whole evening of Jerry's music. Guess who the conductor was: right! Goldsmith celebrated his 70th birthday in Scotland. He started with "Insurrection". You remember the first heroic part after the introduction? In bar 3 he let the orchestra go from pp to fff which made an incredible effect, much better than the overall ff usually heard. Other scores were Russia House, L.A. Confidential, Planet of the Apes, Mulan, The Ghost and the Darkness, Gremlins (Gremlin Rag & Gizmo), the Waltons etc.

Great composer, great concert. My favourite score: ALIEN. Still shocks!

Thanks a lot! I was wondering how the concert went... I just wish I could have been there. It is too bad that the 'Birthday' CD was cancelled, I would have loved to get it!

Sarah Brightman song lyrics discovered! Click here to read the full text at a fan's web site.

Thanks go to AKAKateD @ aol.com for finding the web site.

I'm still looking for official confirmation on whether or not the song was originally for the movie 'Powder' or not, so please keep an eye out!

I've been a big fan of Goldsmith's for many years now but one thing has always bugged me: What is the Latin Goldmsith used in the music to the OMEN trilogy? I can't find a clear enough copy anywhere to understandthe chanting.

I know it's a morbid question, but it's aboslutely the most intelligent horror film score ever. "An Exorcist for the ears!"

LeHah @ mailcity.com

Believe it or not, The Omen is one of Jerry's many scores that I have not had a chance to hear. Hopefully one of the visitors to my site will know. If so, please let both Justin (LeHah @ mailcity.com) and me (JerryGoldsmith @ excite.com know. Thanks!

To who it may concern,

Did you know that Jerry Goldsmith will be celebrating his 70th birthday in Scotland, with one of the world's finest orchestras, Also that the concerts he will be giving will be the best and most complete he has done to date.

To find out more e-mail me (Nik, Press Officer RSNO)

Oh how I wish I could go! Hopefully, some of the visitors of this page will, though, and let me know how it was :-)

I have recently heard from a fan regarding the movie The Thief of Always. He spoke with Clive Barker at a recent book signing, and Mr. Barker said that the movie was 'off.' What this means exactly is anybody's guess. I would like to think that they are just redesigning the movie, and replacing the production staff. If they are doing this, it is questionable whether Jerry Goldsmith will still be doing the score or not. It is also possible, and perhaps most likely, that the entire movie is cancelled. I'll keep an ear out for this one.

What can I say but, this is one of the greatest, best built sites I have ever seen! I humbly take my hat for you!

I am a Brazilian fan, not only of Goldsmith's outstanding job, but from soundtracks in general, like Burt Bacharach, Henry Mancini... I even hosted a short-living radio program here in Rio de Janeiro called The Wonderful Movie Music.

Goldsmith got me bewildered with his song since I heard the jazzy waltz of THE PRIZE, in Brazil, intitled CRIMINALS DON'T DESERVE PRIZES, with the lovely Elke Sommer.

Since then, I have been colecting every item concerning Goldsmith, even got to own a couple of rare records like SEBASTIAN, my favorite Goldsmith tune (VERY 60s).

One soundtrack puzzles me, yet. SECONDS is a terrific film and Goldsmith's music is, once again, wonderful, but the record did not came out, only in a limited (I believe, japanese) version? Can anyone solve the mystery for me, or, if you just one exchange ideas on movies composers?

For some reason, some of Goldsmith's scores are only released on a Japanese label, and they are usually limited releases. This only leaves two options for us fans - buy the movie, or wait for a re-release. On the bright side, however, is that the re-releases usually have previously unreleased material on them, so they are actually a better buy. On the major down-side, they usually take at least a decade to show up.

Great site. But what's that weird "Geocities" thing jumping around in the lower right hand corner - it's very annoying!

James Parrish

I couldn't agree more! However, Geocities adds that automatically to every page, regardless of what other Geocities material you may have on the site. I apologize for the inconvenience!

SARAH BRIGHTMAN SONG 'NO ONE LIKE YOU' MYSTERY SOLVED!

Hello! The melody from Sarah Brightman's song "No One Like You" is from Goldsmith's soundtrack to "Powder". A friend recorded part of a track from that CD and it is definitely the same melody. Hope you can use this information!

Hello,

We ourselves are hosts of a Goldsmith page. Maybe you already visited it. If not, try it under: http://www.oocities.org/Hollywood/Academy/9059/goldsmith.htm
I read that you are looking for the theme of this Sarah Brighman Song... it is 'Powder', the main theme.
Ciao,

tom-sami @ t-online.de

When I first got this e-mail, it was in German (which I can't translate), so it took me a while to find someone who could tell me what it said! I sent an e-mail to Tom and Sami, but they never replied. If any one can verify an official site or listing that the Sarah brightman song is the Powder main theme, please let me (jerrygoldsmith @ excite.com) know.

Very nice page! I've linked it to my site. Jerry Goldsmith will be scoring Disney's "Mulan," due out this summer (June 1998). Matthew Wilder and David Zippel are doing the songs.

My Mulan page is http://www.oocities.org/Hollywood/5082/mulanfaq.html

Wonderful page! I hadn't even heard of the legend until you wrote me. Thanks for the info!

After reviewing the contents of your site, I would have to agree that Jerry Goldsmith has been most prolific and often brilliant in his composition. I had no idea that he has been associated with so many outstanding films.

Frankly, I was looking for a complete listing of his compositions hoping to find the source of the song "No One Like You" which is beautifully sung by Sarah Brightman on her albom "Time to Say Goodbye". I am interested in obtaining the lyrics for this song. They are not always clear but seem to be as appealing as the composition. Any help would be appreciated. In fact it would be nice if you could add a listing of specific songs be Jerry to your site.

Thanks!

This means that if any of you fans out there have the lyrics, please pass them on to Paul (plakininc @ aol.com) and myself (jerrygoldsmith @ excite.com) please!
