Department History
Although alchemy
and metaphysic have been core elements of the curriculum
at Miskatonic University for over a century and a half,
the department of Metaphyscial and Metallurgical Sciences
at MUSunnydale was only opened in 1997. Commited to
transferring and furthering the body of knowledge known as
transmutational being, MMS Sunnydale is both a teaching
and research oriented department.

| While
Cardan Hall is a shining example of modernist tendencies
in architecture, its essential structure and layout is a
light-hearted juxtaposition of the functional elements of
the traditional alchemical laboratory with the
reality-significant properties of an effectively designed
metaphysics building. Incorporating the latest advances
in digital and mechanical engineering into its design, 3
Brahme Boulevard is ideally situated over a confluence of
tremendously powerful earth energies, which, in addition
to supplying effectively unlimited power to its
electrical infrastructure, are used daily in the
classroom, by both the dedicated MMS students, and
students from other departments and programs, most
notably the Diploma Programme in Masonic Design. The
department is presently under the direction of Professor
J.W. VonVaughan, and is home to a diverse family of
scholars, including the visitng Professor Party
Kalway of MUBel, and the powerful geomancer, Dr.
Michel Grimoisx. Professor VonVaughan, in addition to his
teaching responsibilities, is tasked with overseeing the
operation of the many projects and sub-institutes which
are run from the department. Among the more recent
successes achieved by MMS Sunnydale, are the confirmation
of the structure of dark matter, and the transformation
of Bk into Cf in mass quantities. MMS scientists
routinely participate in the design and construction of
sea-faring vessels in conjunction with the MUS Programme
in Naval Architecture, most notably with the contribution
of new super-hardened titanium and vanadium alloys in
1998. Student
life in MMS is fast-paced and varied. MMSers participate
in many of the intramural sports offered at MUS. Indeed,
last year's Intramural Long Board Surf champion was none
other than 2nd year MMS major Hector "Colt 45"
Bierfort. Upper year students participate in the annual
Hot Rod Derby hosted by President Dulac, and many MMS
grads have gone on to lucrative careers in the
laboratories of MISKATONCORP. Students
interested in an education in the burgeoning field of
transmutational being are encouraged to write the
Admissions Director, rm 190 Cardan Hall, MUSunnydale for
a departmental brochure, or to pay a visit to the
department. Daily walking tours of the campus begin in
the Cardan Hall foyer at 12:15pm. |
