Broadway Party

Party Time!

On September 7, 2000 I saw Cats on Broadway for the last time. Not because I'm running out of money particularly (though that's a consideration, too), but because the show closed on September 10, 2000. We Cats fans made the most of it and had a party after the Sept. 7th show. It was a lot of fun; several cast members attended and there was a charity auction for Broadway Cares. Following are pictures of the event:

My friend Alice and myself at the party. Alice accompanied me on this trip and also took some of the pictures.

The beautiful cake created by Lynette and carried to the party by bus. Wow! (pic courtesy of Alice)

Keith Wilson (Plato/Macavity/Rumpus Cat), Billy Johnstone (Coricopat), Jon Erik Goldberg (Pouncival), and Julius Sermonia (Mistoffelees) at the Cats fan-cast party

Julius assists the auctioneer at the informal Broadway Cares auction.

Keith, Jon Erik, and Billy watch Julius and offer "helpful" comments thoughout.

Keith holds up an autographed Cats cap from Hamburg up for bid. (pic courtesy of Alice, and cropped by request)

Keith helps the auction along by modeling the shoes that he wore as Plato on Broadway.

Julius seems skeptical about the price Keith's shoes are going for.

Keith displays a Cats T-shirt signed by most of the final cast members.

Jon Erik, in the absence of Lenny Daniel, takes it upon himself to plug Lenny's Alonzo shoes.

Jon Erik examines Lenny's shoes as he talks about them. This was just before he demanded, "Why does he have padding in his shoes? I don't."

Julius takes a break from the auction and watches.

Keith recites the beginning of Naming of Cats in German as he displays the shoes he wore as Plato in Hamburg.

Billy tells us of his first Broadway experience and offers to throw in pix of the event to up the price on his Coricopat shoes.

Julius shows off the photo album he put together with candid and posed pix of the cast backstage. This ended up going for $625!

Jon Erik mans the video camera and makes constant smart cracks during this part of the auction.

Possibly one of my favourite pages from the album. In the upper left is Amy Hamel as Tantomile. Next to her are James Hadley and Lenny Daniel in the bathroom taking off make-up. Next we have a shot of Billy Johnstone putting on make-up, and finally Jeffry Denman as Munkustrap and Julius Sermonia as Mistoffelees, pic taken by Julius.

Another page from the album: Upper left is Lenny Daniel as Alonzo taking ibuprofen. Below that is Jessica Dillan as Victoria doing her renowned leg lift, and Jean Arbeiter as Jellylorum attempting to copy it.

And finally, the spoils of victory! Here I am at home with all the things I bought at that auction. (pic courtesy of Alice) Some would say I have more money than sense. What do they know!

That's all for now. I have more pictures promised to me by others who were at the party and will post them as soon as I get them.
