THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN

Eon Productions 1974
Directed by: Guy Hamilton
Produced by: Albert Broccoli and Harry Saltzman
Running time: 125 minutes (2 hrs, 5 min)

Mission Date: 12-18-74
Mission Objectives(s): Recover the Solex Agitator, the key element in converting sunlight into electricity. Also, Bond must avoid the golden bullets of Francisco Scaramanga.
Mission Status: Solex Agitator recovered from Scaramanga's island. Scaramanga killed also. Apparently no contract on 007's life, at least not at the start.

PRIMARY TARGET - FRANCISCO SCARAMANGA
STATUS - Stared down a Walther, and the Walther won.

A child raised in the circus, he became a great trick shot artist. When his only friend, a bull elephant, was shot, he killed the man responsible, starting his life of crime at the young age of 15. Hired by the KGB, he became their top assassin, but was overworked and dropped out and became independent. Always using golden bullets and charging $1M per target, this criminal, played by Christopher Lee is not one you want after you.

SECONDARY TARGET - NICKNACK
STATUS - Unknown(Last seen locked in a cage)

Scaramanga's housekeeper (played by Herve Villechaize), he tries to get rid of his boss by hiring hitmen so he can inherit Scaramanga's lofty estate. He has sole control over Scaramanga's house, and the carnival-like area it contains. (You really need to see it, because it's indescribable.) Of course, he doesn't mind working under Scaramanga. He also loves peanuts.

MARY GOODNIGHT
STATUS - Unknown(Last seen in a junk.)

Working for a far east branch of MI6, Mary (Britt Ekland) tries to prove her worth throughout the movie, but something always goes wrong. The last time she ended up in the trunk of Scaramanga's flying car, with the Solex. She does have a good supply of information regarding the areas she has juristiction in, most notibly on Green Rolls Royces. She also unknowingly destroys Scaramanga's island hideaway.

THE GOLDEN GUN Scaramanga's weapon of choice. A solid gold gun. What's amazing about this weapon is that it can seperate into four items of everyday usage, (depending on what type of person you are). They are: a pen, a cigarette case, a cigarette lighter, and a cufflink. It also uses a rather unique caliber: 4.2mm. A most interesting weapon indeed.

    LITTLE KNOWN FACTS

  • 1. Title role was formerly offered to Jack Palance, but was finally played by Christopher Lee. Lee is author Ian Fleming's cousin.
  • 2. The last 007 movie to be co-produced by Harry Saltzman. Following considerable creative differences, he sold his 50% share of the Bond franchise to UA.
  • 3. The spiral "Javelin Jump" was inspired from an AMC promotional tour which was running at the time of the movie's release. The jump was performed by a modified 1974 Hornet X:special suspension, a six cylinder engine (less weight), centered steering wheel, and a special fuel system to prevent stalling. During AMC's promo tour, there were a few problems, but the stunt in the movie was done on the first take. University students came up with the original idea. Although the bridge looks worn down and falling apart, it was constructed to those exact dimentions. The car had to approach the ramp at right angles, do a sharp turn, and hit the ramp at a predetermined speed.
