THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS

Eon Productions 1987
Directed by: John Glen
Produced by: Albert Broccoli
Running time: 130 minutes (2 hrs, 10 min)

Mission Date: 07-31-87
Mission Objectives: To kill the head of SMERSH, General Leonid Pushkin. Also locate and return defecting General Georgi Koskov to the British.
Mission Status: Koskov's defection was phony. All part of an intricate plan for the murder of Pushkin. Arms deal between Koskov & Whittaker also contained diamond smuggling and opium dealing. Opium destroyed.

PRIMARY TARGET - BRAD WHITTAKER
STATUS - He met his Waterloo

An illegal arms, heroin, and diamond dealer, Whittaker (Joe Don Baker) is not seen through most of the movie, even though his role is huge. He was selling high-powered weapons of the US and the UK to Russia, but they pulled out at the last moment. Whittaker got angry, and ordered the head of the KGB killed. He almost succeeded to. He also planned to sell heroin on the streets, but his "packages" were lost in the air-mail. Whittaker is a war freak, and his house is devoted to military leaders, including Napolean, Khan, and even Hitler. He also has various weapons strewn about his home, along with a miniature field he uses to re-create famous battles, like Gettysburg, the way he would have ordered the armys.

SECONDARY TARGET - GEORGI KOSKOV
STATUS - Unknown(Probably still in jail)

A top KGB mastermind, Koskov (Jeroen Krabbé defects to England, but it is later discovered that he's been working for Whittaker the whole time. Using his girlfriend, Kara, as a phony sniper, the British don't suspect a thing. He takes Bond to Afghanistan after Pushkin is shot, and plans on leaving there with a plane full of opium. Things don't go exactly as planned for him though, and he gets sent back to Moscow..."in the diplomatic bag".

SECONDARY TARGET - NECROS
STATUS - Got the boot on the exterior of a plane

A well-trained assassin, Necros (Andreas Wisniewski) uses disguises to kill his victims. For instance, he used a milkman costume to break into the building where Koskov was hiding. He also used a doctor costume twice, once leaving the building, and another while loading the stolen diamonds onto a plane. Very tough, he also is not very bright. His end was close by when he jumped into a plane that Bond was piloting. (We can all guess the end, right?)

ASSOCIATE - KARA MILOVY
STATUS - Unknown(Possibly still performing with Russian Orchestra)

A talented cellist, Kara (Maryam D'Abo) helps Koskov during his fake defection. Later, she meets up with Bond, who is posing as Koskov's friend who'll take her back to him so he can find some leads as to where Koskov went. He learns through her that he's with Whittaker, but the plot is not complete yet. She is taken to Afghanistan with Bond and together they escape with Koskov's opium. She's not a that bad of a pilot either.
