These costs were estimated using 1996 prices. You'll have to INCREASE everything by an appropriate INFLATION INDEX for a better approximation of today's costs.
Your mileage WILL VARY. Especially at the LOW and HIGH extremes. An additional factor that affects cost is the type of sample (MAIL, TELEPHONE, MALL, FOCUS GROUPS, PERSONAL INTERVIEW).
If you have a LOW INCIDENCE category, and you can supply a MAILING LIST or a PHONE NUMBER list, you will SAVE on costs.
This COST ESTIMATOR also assumes that you are using a FULL SERVICE SUPPLIER (i.e. the supplier will DESIGN THE QUESTIONNAIRE, DO THE FIELD WORK, CODE and TAB the DATA and PRODUCE a FINISHED REPORT).
If you do some or all of these things internally, you will SAVE. However, it's assumed that your time is NOT particularly valuable.
Use this ESTIMATE as a basis of comparison when getting quotes from suppliers. The ESTIMATE is biased on the HIGH SIDE, so that you should be PLEASANTLY surprised when getting an ACTUAL estimate. Once again, YOUR MILEAGE WILL VARY.
