FORMER ADVERSARIES MARK BAY OF PIGS ANNIVERSARY
Former Cold War enemies from the United States and Cuba have been
meeting in Havana. They are marking the 40th anniversary of the Bay of
Pigs invasion of Cuba.

Friday, August 20, 1999 After a visit to Cuba, America’s Senate minority leader, Tom Daschle, called for an easing of the United States’ embargo on trade with the
island to allow exports of food and medicine. The White House said this
was unlikely to happen.
