6/Feb/2001 Universities cry foul
By: SEAN GORDON and NICOLAS VAN PRAET
With universities across the province crying foul over the suspension of performance contracts and student groups threatening protests, opposition Liberals called yesterday for the resignation of Education Minister Francois Legault. The reactions came on the heels of news that the performance contracts between Quebec and the province's 18 universities - a key condition for increased funding - have been suspended.
6/Feb/2001 It's a deal, Mr. Legault
Fresh from his erratic performance in the Parti Quebecois leadership campaign, Francois Legault has made another bizarre move. The education minister has suspended his plan to pump more money into the province's underfunded universities, infuriating university principals who were counting on the money to balance their budgets.
Mr. Legault has confirmed that "performance contracts" signed with a number of Quebec universities, including McGill, Universite de Montreal, Universite de Sherbrooke and Ecole de Technologie Superieure, have been suspended and that future contracts with other institutions are on hold. The contracts called for increased funding in exchange for commitments from the universities to improve teacher productivity and graduation rates.

McGill University has signed a financing deal with the Quebec government that will see the university receive $100 million over the next three years in return for balancing its budget, hiring new professors and increasing its graduation rate.
Yesterday, McGill principal Bernard Shapiro said that although he's pleased with the reinvestment after years of cutbacks, the amount is inadequate.

30/Mar/2001 CONCORDIA PROFESSOR FURIOUS OVER STUDENT'S EVALUATION
The student union at Concordia University has severed its links with a
Web site that rates teachers at the school. Professor threatened to sue after being labelled 'racist'
Example : Choquette, Michel; ENGL 411) This instructor really knows his stuff when it comes to scriptwriting! His knowledge base is extensive. He treats students as professionals and expects you to act like one. He gives it to you straight. Also, he doesn't favour one style over another, which is rare in a creative writing course, and you don't have to write about what he likes in order to get a good mark. He is open to any style or topic. Also, he takes an interest in your work and makes himself available to discuss your material. I highly recommend him if you are interested in scriptwriting as a career. (avg 90% rating)
Philippe ???; COMM ???) I have learn nothing in this class The teacher is not aware of what is in the book The teacher works in a firm of consultant and he don't give time and devotion to the course. (20% rating)

Bernard Shapiro pleads fo $80,000,000 Esp. Sunday 12 December 1999 Needed: tools to do the job byBERNARD SHAPIRO .. Ontario universities have between $13,000 and $17,000 to spend on each and every
student - Quebec universities have only $9,000: in other words, at least $4,000
less per student. Multiply that = McGill, has a shortfall of approximately $80 million
