Who am I?
My name is Dongming Lu, I
graduated from Computer Science Dept. in Beijing Polytechnic University
in 1991. Now I am working in the US, and I am the creator and server
of 'BPUers On Net'. More.
-
Who is BPUer?
'BPUer' is a generic name for people who graduated from or have been
worked in Beijing Polytechnic University,
i.e. 'BPU'. Since BPU has evolved into a bigger university now, under
a much broader definition, 'BPUer' actually includes people who graduated
from the former Beijing Computer Institute, and Economics and Management
College of Beijing United University.

What is "BPUers On Net" ?
"BPUers On Net" is an online alumni list for BPU. It's address is at
:

-
What is the history of "BPUers On Net" ?
-
May 1995 -- 'BPUers On Net' was first started. I just e-mailed some
of my classmates in the US, I wrote in my original mail : 'How nice it
would be if we have a database that contains all BPUers, and people can
find who are close to them, who are in the same country, who are graduated
from Dept. 7, etc.' 'This is our database, let's make it better for us.'
That mail got very warm responses, thus encouraged me to start collecting
these information, and broadcast them every now and then among the subscribers,
to keep them informed of new changes and newcomers.
-
Feb. 17th, 1997 -- The BPUer list was first implemented as HTML format
and moved onto the internet at the current address. And thus people
can apply on the internet, using the standard form.
-
Jul. 23rd, 1998 -- More than 3 years after its birth, we had the 100th
subscriber.
-
Aug. 14th, 1998 -- 'BPUer
Forum' was created on another web site, people can talk about their
common interest, share news, knowledge.
-
Feb. 13th, 1999 -- The first ever BPUer
reunion party was held in Milpitas, California.
-
Who is involved?
Currently, I am the only one who maintaining this web site, but all
BPUers who have subscribed to the list, visited the web site, emailed me
with warm support, good suggestions, even complaints are contributors to
the success of this site. I thank you for the involvement in this
activity.
-
Who sponsors this?
From the first day this service was evolved, I had no sponsor. And
for all the services I have made on the internet, including 'BPUers On
Net', 'BPUer Forum', etc, I get no money from any source, and I don't intend
to do so in the future. But as the database is growing bigger and
bigger, it will be harder and harder for me to keep up with it, so any
help in any format would be greatly appreciated. Ideas, time,
people.
-
How can I be included?
You just go to the application page,
fill in the form there, and an email will be sent to me, later I will include
you in the list. However, if you cannot access that page, or cannot
send email from the form, you can also email me directly at tomlu@yahoo.com
with the necessary information.
-
How long will it take for my record to show in the
list?
I tend to put the record in as soon as I receive the email. The
usualy turnaround time is a few hours to a few days.
-
What about my privacy?
Very good question! This will be my first priority in the future.
As you all know the current website (at Geocities) doesn't provide any
security capability, but as possibility arises, I will try whatever I can
to implement security check into the website. If you have any suggestion
or experience, feel free to email me.
-
What should I do after the I am in?
As I said, this is our database, let us make it better and better for
us. As a subscriber, after you subscribe, please keep the information
current, by either updating on the web, or email
me with changes. Also I would like you to tell more BPUers of the
existence of this site, the more people in the database, the more useful
it will be for everybody.
