Proton's double act to increase 'export order' explained used UK spec cars in the local market.

Proton to suspend production after Hari Raya until April for 'plant maintenance'. Currently, Proton and its dealers are holding more 12000 cars in stock.
Perodua's January production is 80 units and expect to rise to 500 units after the festive seasons. Average monthly production for last year is 3000 units.

Proton to cut production from 3 shifts of 235000 cars p.a. to one shift four days week of about 72000 cars p.a. in the new year until stock level drop to manageable level. Proton's breakeven is estimated at about 144000 cars p.a. Proton's profit is suffering from another blow; customers prefer less profitable standard car without 'options'. Mercedes Car Malaysia is probably one of the few country in the world where a Mercedes C200 cost more than a BMW 520 (previous series). Mean the local franchisee Cycle & Carriage Bintang is milking the car. Mercedes is the car for the local businessman because the resale value was high and maintenance was cheap. Retailers In Britain, sucessful retailers fall into two groups; niche or low cost/high volume. In Malaysia, most retailers try to be high volume seller and charging niche market price. Productivity Productivity in companies have dropped in the past few years resulted from high employees turnover and rised in wages. Employees will suffued the most in the next few years before productivity is matched with wages. 30th. Nov 97
