It was united with Chad in 1905 and joined with Middle Congo and Gabon in 1910 to become French Equatorial Africa. Upon dissolution of the federation in 1958, the four territories became full autonomous members of the French Community. Unbagi-Shari proclaimed complete independence as the Central African Republic in 1960. It's a member of the monetary union of Central African States.
