Zambia, a landlocked countrfy in south-central Africa, was formerly Northern Rhodesia. It joined with Southern Rhodesia and Nyasaland to form the federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland in 1953. After the federation was dissolved in 1963, Northern Rhodesia became the independent Republic of Zambia.
