Liechtenstein, located in central Europe, first became a principality in 1719. It was a member of the Rhine Confederation from 1806 to 1815, and of the German Confederation from 1815 to 1866. It became independent in 1866. Its association with Austria was terminated by WWI. Liechtenstein has adopted the currency of Switzerland since 1921. The 1920 notes were the only ones issued by the pricipality.
