Yemen Demcratic Republic, located on the southern coast of the Arabian Peninsula, was British protectorate of South Arabia. Became independent in 1967 as the People's Republic of Southern Yemen. The name was changed to Yemen Democratic Republic in 1970. Merged with Yemen Arab Republic in 1990.
